  1. On the 18th of December I bought a Silverback Stride MD 3.0 29 2020 for R5500 at Cycle Lab Megastore in Lynnwood. Its condition is just as good as new at this moment at two months old. I just have to fix a puncture. I've rode it about 30 times. But I intend to sell it again as soon as I can. I want to lose as little value as I possibly can. It comes with a bottle cage, multitool, hand pump, tyre liners and I intend on throwing in my hydration pack for extra value. I was wondering what I could ask for it?
  2. There are so many responses that I cannot hope to reply to each individual one with my gratitude and thoughts, so I'll say it in this post. Thanks a lot for all the information. It helps, especially with my self-confidence, and gives me a lot of hope. I have saved all the responses so that I may read it at home where I have no internet access, and start planning from there, based on the information given to me. I plan as well on consulting the mechanics themselves so as to find out more what it's like and whether they think it's worth it or if I should indeed pursue something else. I can honestly say that if something is not my passion but I want to make it work, I will do whatever I can in order to make it work, including becoming passionate about it. Once again, I really appreciate it, and if I have any follow-up questions I will let you know. Keep well.
  3. I am 26 years of age and I classify myself as NEET (Not in employment, education or training). I have finished matric in 2011, graduating with a basic NSC (national senior certificate) work. I do not have dreams and aspirations, other than touring central Europe with a road bike. As such, I am happy with very little in life. I have few passions and this includes cycling, so I was hoping I could get a few answers regarding a career as a bicycle mechanic. I am considering this as I really do not know what other options I have, and I do not know how to determine what career would best suit me. I know the pay isn't great, but unless you need a good salary to simply survive in South Africa, will the pay grade of a bicycle mechanic be enough for me to get by and live healthily? Are there enough openings/vacancies at any given moment for new people with only training and no actual experienced to enter the industry of bicycles? How would I go about acquiring the right skills, training and experience to land a job? Does it take a lot of talent? What other options are available to me (excluding retailer) to work in the bicycle industry? Is the bicycle market big enough in SA for someone to land a job working for a company or would I have to start my own thing? I am not an intelligent or talented person, which is the second reason I am not considering any career that requires a degree, so I would love to hear from people who know a lot about this business.
  4. I've been meaning to get into road cycling for a while now and, now that I have my own road bicycle, I'm worried about getting flats. I haven't ridden it yet as I've had no time for that. But I've seen these set of tires online that everyone seems to praise due to their resistance to sharp objects such as thorns and broken glass. How well do they work on the roads of South Africa? I ride a lot in the Waterkloof, Pretoria area, for reference.
  5. I live in Pretoria so I won't be able to help in the recovery of your bike, but I'm just curious how the chain of your bike looks? I'm asking because I need to assess if this is a threat with my bike as well.
