  1. Good luck to all the riders enjoy the video and please share it with fellow riders. In recent years the race has usually followed a scenic 109 km circular route from Cape Town down the Cape Peninsula and back. The start is in Hertzog Boulevard in the city centre, at Cape Town's main Civic Centre. ( We apologize for not starting the video on Hertzog Boulevard, on the day we filmed the Argus route Hertzog Boulevard was under going road works). It then follows a short section of the N2 called Settler's Way, then the M3 to Muizenberg, and then Main Road along the False Bay coast to Simon's Town and Smitswinkel Bay. The route then crosses the peninsula in a westerly direction, past the entrance to Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park (within which Cape Point is situated). It then heads north along the Atlantic coast through Scarborough, Kommetjie, Noordhoek, Chapmans Peak, Hout Bay over Suikerbossie hill to Camps Bay and ends in Green Point.
  2. You think they've maybe noted the comments from fellow Hubbers and had a bit of a re-think re pricing and approach?!
  3. To err is only human, and last i checked we all were. Bos has been treated unfairly in an honest response to wanne-b's request. Who gave others the right to publicly judge and humiliate Bos thereafter? How would you feel if it were you, having made the same judgement call having weighed up all the options and still thinking it was the best and more importantly the correct decision. He has shown genuine concern for his fellow cyclist and competitor and ensured the necesary attention was being duly paid prior to continuing his race. i agree with capecyclist and "real wannebe" Ultimately it's between Bos and Wanne-b
  4. Thanks for raising a good topic Curvygirl, i also recently started cycling and find the hills tough but as get a bit fitter so does getting up the hill seem quicker and easier. i do however have a prob with the smooth spin/cycle as it feels like i'm trying to rub my stomach and head and the same time, can't concentrate on both Thanks to all the others for advice tho, do try pick higher gears but only works as you get fitter Otherwise concentrate on breathing and trying to cycle as smoothly as possible. oh... and trying to keep up with the one who just passed me

    CRC

You assume that everyone who cycles knows what CRC is! Assumptions are the... For those starting out like myself and seeking advice and assistance from fellow hubbers who have the experience and knowledge it can be off putting to encounter such ridicule. Just a thought
  6. Good in-depth review: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2008/12/garmin-edge-705-review.html
  7. I recently went thru the same process (beginning of Feb), looked at the GT Avalanche 1.0 2010 and also the Merida Merida Matts 60D, both for about R7k. I eventually spent a bit extra (R1.4k) and got the Merida TFS XC 400D. Rear derailleur is Shimano XT, front derailleur and shifters both Deore, and fork is Rock Shok Dart 2. For 2nd hand i was advised to only go to Cycle Traders (Avron) in Woodstock, did take a look but didn't have my size. Also 2nd hand bikes don't have warranty as far as i'm aware. Overall i was told fairly significantly better components on the Merida i purchased, especially value for money. Also important on where you'll be riding. Tokai is apparently notoriously bad on components and bikes, but really good fun. Good luck and enjoy!
  8. @WW - tx again, my sentiments exactly. Family in UK at the mo can pick up the bundle Edge 500 for around R1800 less on CRC then buying locally, hence why decision is a little easier to spend the extra . New firmware sounds like resolved a couple of the niggling issues. Now will just have to wait for the ash to clear in order to get them and the unit back! @BBJ - glad you like it and tx for the review. If you find an AiO package let me know, would be equally keen.
  9. Tx WW! I think i'm going to go with the Edge 500. Superior features to the CS200, and other forums ppl rate it better, upgrade a no-brainer for most. Family in the UK at the mo so will hopefully bring back at the end of the week. Would rather outlay a bit more now and possibly have features i won't use initially then be cheap and have to purchase/ upgrade later. Thanks for the advice!
  10. Other than basic functionality i really want it for training and fitness improvement. only ride mtb but also only recently started so cost vs necessity/ functions i may not use (initially anyway). recommendations? tx!
  11. How've you found your Edge 500? Other forums say the display contrast is poor? Also considering the Polar CS200 as will save a fair bundle. Confused as to which will be better in the long run
  12. Considering either the Edge 500, Edge 705 or going with a Polar or Suunto watch. Want to use it for fitness training. What would you recommend? Does the 500 come with a fitness trainer/ program as with Polar and Suunto (eg T4d?) Do like the larger screen and the 705 looks quite bulky, don't think i need the full maps
  13. Tx, leaning towards the Sigma myself, think the layout and display is better
  14. Looking to get a wireless computer for my new mtb. Only started cycling 2mths ago so don't think i need anything hectic. Considering either Cateye Strada Wireless or Sigma BC 1609 STS. Both are wireless and get decent reviews. Woud appreciate thoughts and opinions prior to purchasing. Any other recommendations?
  15. I'm assuming you have checked the frame size is a correct match for your height?
