  1. i'm being such a loser about these damn pedals i know. i do ride clipless, and ride pretty ok in them, but hell i fall alot, in two months i have buggered up my elbow and my knee so badly, im getting older, i dont seem to bounce quite like i used to im gonna try those shimano pedals, i reckon maybe just a wider space around the clip will give me a bit of extra hold if i do feel like negotiating something particularly treacherous and dragging my one foot. and if it doesnt work i'll just harden the *7%$ up and accept my falls with grace!
  2. those look like the business! thanks. is it relatively easy to ride without being clipped in?
  3. it is a terrible helpless feeling I have on this Monday morning, that this kind of horror will continue unabated while we watch. our roads really have become warzones and i cant seem to see a solution. it is a decay that is coming from a society living with no idea of the fact that our actions have consequences, and only a global moral and true leadership can adjust this. it terrifies me. sorry to rant, that wasn't an indictment of anyone in particular, just a vocal plea to whomever, globally, lets sort ourselves out. 'The world is a fine place and well worth fighting for'.
  4. thanks super_mil, i think that is probably what i will end up doing. its not the end of the world to change over your pedals according to what you are going to be riding.
  5. the above site shows related incidents and it can bring a chill to you. they say we can judge a society on how it treats its animals, i say we can judge the state of ours on the way we treat our roads. we cant go on allowing the slaughter of innocents daily. it terrifies me as to where it is going *shudders*
  6. My G-d thats terrible. All love to their families.
  7. This is a dilemma that is really starting to get me down, I am busy building up a new XC/trail bike, and no matter how much I've read I cant seem to decide. I know it is personal preference, but is the difference in strength really noticeable with flats over clipless? I have been riding with clipless but even though I'm well used to them and can clip out pretty fast, there is still a small, but painful, percent of times when I cant, (thick sand, weird slope, mud etc). This really worries me for races where you have no idea whats around the next corner and a whole bunch of other riders on top of you. Do alot of people ride flats just for races? But then that leads me to for example, a four day Mashatu ride, where the terrain is so varied, but you still want some strength in your strokes. What are the thoughts on those pedals that offer both clipless and flats? I have just ordered some FiveTens and flats, apparently that combination works well, aside from the torn up shins, but cant seem to make a decision...? Help

  9. of course. i- pod was the death of the album cover
  10. oh and thanks for noticing stretch....i was about to compliment your decemberists avatar but i just realised im wrong...?
  11. yes, im a bit of a folkie, don't be scared is awesome, has an almost indie smiths-like feel to it, when that helicopter comes is also brilliant. folk and country make me want to ride for days through small towns, my whole love of MTB is because of great music, the twin peaks avatar, yes, perfect small town, and genius show too!
  12. it cant be easy competing with the amount of international sites people are using, and I've only heard great things about CWC too, will def be giving them a try

  14. i agree, thanks for taking the time for that advice iragr. my choice has been made on the ride quality of the carbon blur lt, i hadnt actually tested an alum frame, but was blown away by the carbon that i tried. there are i guess hundreds of other choices, i suppose you go with some instinct and a feeling and hope for the best. and i think i can be guranteed that my nerves and survival instinct will probably crack long before any frame!
  15. i've read brilliant things about them and they look frikkin awesome, i think army green spokes and hubs would look killer on a black blur!
  16. aspire velotech. tried on the hub for ages...i think i had the highest views to responses ratio ever, not one reply that alone speaks highly for the quality of them i think
  17. have kind of been swayed towards xt over xtr for durability, not certain?
  18. i'm not tall at all, 1.75, weigh about 73, so i ride a medium. i've been recommended a Fox 32 vanilla 1.5 taper for the plastic lt, with a 15qr. then going chris king hubs, havent decided yet about the groupset, but maybe xtr and xt mixed, i think the direct mount front der is xt? and then rims and tyres will be a whole new sweating decision. and will change over thompson seatposts and stems and some easton bars that i have already maybe. want the bike to be as strong as possible but also ready for longer endurance stuff too. any thoughts ?

  20. I am really really stuck trying to decide between an aluminium santa cruz blur lt frame and the new carbon one. are there massive pros to the carbon that would justify the price tag, or would i be better off with the tried and tested aluminium frame? i want it for sort of xc/trail riding, no really big downhill stuff, just a nice stiff strong all round bike that climbs as well as it descends. would really appreciate some advice from those who know more than i do ie probably everyone:)
  21. isn't it weird that we are so concerned about the strength of our machines whilst tied to carriers, but then we happily saddle up and let them carry our weight over rocks and stumps and lovely soft tarmac. hopefully the next few years will sort out all these carbon concerns, or not..? i reviewed the easton carbon seatpost and and for a very long time had nightmares about a half carbon post jutting from my a$*
  22. i personally wouldnt put any carbon frame on a hanging rack, after seeing what just a water bottle did to my mates frame (wore through it, and a water bottle is pretty much secured), i would be hesitant to have any kind of friction or constant pressure on one point of the frame.
  23. anything off springsteen's nebraska - tough call between atlantic city and nebraska.
  24. thats probably great advice, there was a Santa Cruz Heckler available which was an amazing deal, not sure if its yours rad006, but a beautiful bike
