  1. Is gap cover really worth it though? I have had medical aid which I pay for entirely (no benefits or company contribution) and have been covered since I started working about 15 years ago. I have only needed medical aid three times in the past... for my kids birth and then grommets for them a few years later. I sort of look at medical aid as a grudge necessity because sometimes the **** hits the fan. Gap cover just seems like another insurance and at the end of the day just the insurance companies that build fancy new campuses.(im looking at you discovery) Surely if I was I responsible adult (I fail miserably) id be better off taking the gap cover fee each month and investing it?
  2. Thanks for the Info... Im on Momentum and I am my own Gap cover. I suppose it depends a lot on who you go to and how many multiples of medical aid rates they charge.
  3. I hear you, and trust me Im not going cheap for cheap sake... if I could afford to go for the best all the time I would but im trying to do the best with what I have which is not a lot.
  4. This is me... I also have Twins. Thanks for all the replies, really helpful... Initially my medical aid (which is a basic hospital plan) didn't look like it would cover anything. Im going back and querying this. Im probably in for co payments and everything not medical aid rates but thats better that nothing at all! Glad the feedback is pretty positive and yes, regardless of the price it will be cheaper than another kid. If you ever want a foolproof contraceptive... just look at what school fees are these days!
  5. Ive tried searching the forums (and the net) but Im struggling to find any recent info on having a Vasectomy without going broke. Has anyone had one recently? Where does one go and How much? I know first port of call should be your GP who will probably refer you to a urologist for the 10-15min procedure. But some of the pricing I am seeing is R15000? Surely not. R1000/min for some ball play from an older gentleman, I dont have money for that (but if you do and thats your game, Power to you!) It seems that only if you on the all bells and whistles option of medical aid will they cover that. Surely there must be some more affordable method for us mere mortals who have to pony up ourselves and (thank you to our kids who we love very very dearly BUT dont want more) dont have thousands of rands lying around. I have seen some family planning clinics do it for free/minimal amounts but they are in rather "rough" areas... at least the ones near me. Im trying to find the middle ground... the working mans ball snipper! Finally... how long before I can grace the bike seat again?! Id really appreciate any input.
  6. Also make sure you always keep your word to them and show up when you say you will. Even if something said in passing like next visit you’ll get ice-creams or whatever, make sure you do. Kids in divorce are more hypersensitive to being let down (partly as your ex consciously or not will let them know that you let her down in various ways and thats why it’s over) and often its the main negative they remember as they grow up into adults. Good luck!
  7. Yesterday I had a moment where I thought I might need to change my pants. The south easter was particularly vicious yesterday whipping over the muizenberg mountains and pumping across Boyes Drive and westlake roads. It was a fun enough time trying to stay vertical (more like 45 deg into the wind) on the bike as every gust did its upmost to hurl you off to the side. The scary moment came along a narrow single lane stretch along the golf course that does have a dedicated bike lane where a large land cruise came barreling from behind and missed me fractionally as he kept swerving in and out of the bike lane. Thing is I dont think it was intentional as every gust that blew lurched this guys massive car to the side and honestly I think he kakked himself more than I did... Mind you if he had hit me I might be slightly less understanding about the matter . Sometimes its the driver, sometimes the cyclist but also sometimes its none of the above.
