  1. Via Twitter: Breaking news: @CNN has learned that at least 5 pilots in the US reported problems controlling Boeing 737 Max 8 jets during critical moments of flight in recent months, according to records in a federal government incident database. Why are these jets still flying in the US??? https://twitter.com/javimorgado/status/1105766895662309376
  2. Really impressive stuff that! I must make sure my better half doesn't see that as I definitely don't have your mad skills.

  5. Despite my best intentions Im not riding this year but will be supporting in full force with the little ones. Dont suppose anyone knows where to find cow bells similar to the pic anywhere in CT? They (read me) will really enjoy ringing the hell out of those as all the riders go past.
  6. I hope you going to take progress pic and post it in the build forums... Its awesome seeing dream rigs being assembled.
  7. Ive seen bigger https://youtu.be/XAn3jM6RumU
  8. Did you get yours from Chain reaction? I need to get mudguards for this winter and was wondering the best place to look. If you did order from them, how did you find the shipping & delivery time?
  9. This could be my story from this year... I am hovering around 130kg mark and in December I said no more. I have always loved riding but the last decade really just saw my bike gathering dust and me gathering kg's. My biggest issue is I could never find the time to ride... Life as usual always got in the way with work, kids errands and any other excuse I could find. Then in December I thought what if I tried cycling to work... its not far (4km) and although there is mostly uphill, going home would be reverse. So I spent some of my December break just riding around my flat block to try get fit enough before I work up the courage to try the work run. First once, then twice... then a few more times. Eventually late in december I figured I was ready to try the future work run... I gave it a go and yes stopped a couple of times to catch me breath but I thought... do-able just. So I made myself a challenge. Ride 1000km in a year. Doesnt sound like a lot to other commuters who do that in a month but given I had probably had averaged riding 1km a year it was a leap and easily doable if I commute most days. Maths told me I just have to do a minimum of 125 days of commuting to reach my goal. I decided to install strava really just to document my distance and so I started commuting in Jan. The first two weeks were tough. I would arrive at my office out of breath and sweating like a dog in a Chinese restaurant... and there were no showers. So I mastered the basin wash and packing the bag. You learn the hard way when you forget to pack a work shirt. I also set myself challenges... first it was try to only stop once on a hill... then try make it a bit further until I have to stop and finally make it to the top without stopping. Man alive, the first day I did that was glorious... if I could breath I would have whooped. Since then it has just been getting better and faster. I see on my commutes when I check strava im getting personal records quite regularly which means Im slowly getting faster and less out of breath. Im still 4000 people away from KOM but as long as im doing equal or better than I did the day before im happy. Then last week something clicked... Id been doing pretty well but it had always been about getting to the office/home. But on one ride (probably one of the first not riding straight on into a 40km/h south easter) I just had the best time riding home. The cycle itself became fun and the thing I looked forward to the most. Ive even started investigating small detours on the way home to get a bit more in. And Just like CHRISF Im in a much happier mood these days leaving the stress of contractors behind, having a job and then going home all smiles to see my family. (Geez hey... the building industry!) Ive even had my wife question me about why im so happy coming from work these days. I still need to lose a ton of weight but Im hoping if I cycle more and eat better then im probably doing a whole lot better than the last decade. Im also hopeful because my kids are now just old enough to start cycling which means one day in the future I might have an opportunity to use a bike other than commuting and also be dad enough to join them. They see me leave and come home on a bike and now thats all they want to do. Thank you ChrisF for the great post and I echo your sentiments... So what have I learnt - Commuting by bicycle is GOOD for me !!
  10. Finished this recently... it was after about 4 failed attempts in the ground. We have moles the size of jack russles (not joking) here that literally would pull down mielie stalks into their holes like in the cartoons. So much so that anything we plant we have to put in a chicken wire mesh cage underground to protect the roots. This veg villa has double layer of mesh below and the shadecloth is for the killer south easter that smashed garden 2, and the hectic west sun that burnt garden 3. Heres hoping for success this time rounds. Now if only I could find some of vetseuns tomato seeds! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Have done season 1... 2 is in the queue at the moment. I am rather a fan of British series over their american counterparts.
  12. Just Finished Wallander on Netflix and its really good. Wallander is a BBC television miniseries adapted from the Swedish novelist Henning Mankell's Kurt Wallander novels and starring Kenneth Branagh
  13. This was great blow by blow! Didn’t think about being clean shaven down there!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. No gap cover at the moment... I have to cover any difference myself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Do you have any recommendations for a decent independent one? From your guys comments above it sounds like I should seriously consider one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Is gap cover really worth it though? I have had medical aid which I pay for entirely (no benefits or company contribution) and have been covered since I started working about 15 years ago. I have only needed medical aid three times in the past... for my kids birth and then grommets for them a few years later. I sort of look at medical aid as a grudge necessity because sometimes the **** hits the fan. Gap cover just seems like another insurance and at the end of the day just the insurance companies that build fancy new campuses.(im looking at you discovery) Surely if I was I responsible adult (I fail miserably) id be better off taking the gap cover fee each month and investing it?
  17. Thanks for the Info... Im on Momentum and I am my own Gap cover. I suppose it depends a lot on who you go to and how many multiples of medical aid rates they charge.
  18. I hear you, and trust me Im not going cheap for cheap sake... if I could afford to go for the best all the time I would but im trying to do the best with what I have which is not a lot.
  19. This is me... I also have Twins. Thanks for all the replies, really helpful... Initially my medical aid (which is a basic hospital plan) didn't look like it would cover anything. Im going back and querying this. Im probably in for co payments and everything not medical aid rates but thats better that nothing at all! Glad the feedback is pretty positive and yes, regardless of the price it will be cheaper than another kid. If you ever want a foolproof contraceptive... just look at what school fees are these days!
  20. Ive tried searching the forums (and the net) but Im struggling to find any recent info on having a Vasectomy without going broke. Has anyone had one recently? Where does one go and How much? I know first port of call should be your GP who will probably refer you to a urologist for the 10-15min procedure. But some of the pricing I am seeing is R15000? Surely not. R1000/min for some ball play from an older gentleman, I dont have money for that (but if you do and thats your game, Power to you!) It seems that only if you on the all bells and whistles option of medical aid will they cover that. Surely there must be some more affordable method for us mere mortals who have to pony up ourselves and (thank you to our kids who we love very very dearly BUT dont want more) dont have thousands of rands lying around. I have seen some family planning clinics do it for free/minimal amounts but they are in rather "rough" areas... at least the ones near me. Im trying to find the middle ground... the working mans ball snipper! Finally... how long before I can grace the bike seat again?! Id really appreciate any input.
  21. Also make sure you always keep your word to them and show up when you say you will. Even if something said in passing like next visit you’ll get ice-creams or whatever, make sure you do. Kids in divorce are more hypersensitive to being let down (partly as your ex consciously or not will let them know that you let her down in various ways and thats why it’s over) and often its the main negative they remember as they grow up into adults. Good luck!
  22. Yip, I just walked up the hill im going to be riding up in 2 and a bit hours and I think the road melted my flip flops.
  23. Yesterday I had a moment where I thought I might need to change my pants. The south easter was particularly vicious yesterday whipping over the muizenberg mountains and pumping across Boyes Drive and westlake roads. It was a fun enough time trying to stay vertical (more like 45 deg into the wind) on the bike as every gust did its upmost to hurl you off to the side. The scary moment came along a narrow single lane stretch along the golf course that does have a dedicated bike lane where a large land cruise came barreling from behind and missed me fractionally as he kept swerving in and out of the bike lane. Thing is I dont think it was intentional as every gust that blew lurched this guys massive car to the side and honestly I think he kakked himself more than I did... Mind you if he had hit me I might be slightly less understanding about the matter . Sometimes its the driver, sometimes the cyclist but also sometimes its none of the above.
  24. Couldn't agree more. Ive been hunting for a new bike but dont have the time to drive around to every bike store. I also have a set budget and research everything online... I dont want to waste my time guessing the price on a bike that is way out of my budget... I want to get a range of bikes in my price bracket, check the specs and reviews from other riders and narrow it down to possibly one or two before stepping into a store. Honestly I have never even considered Momsen as I have no idea on what typically those bikes cost... but I do with silverback which im guessing Momsen is similarly priced.
  25. Im in the far south and am commuting from Muizenberg to Westlake. Its only a couple of Kms and im trying to get more fit before I try make it interesting along Boyes Drive. I am a large guy riding a tank of a bike so trying to keep it as flat as possible.
