  1. Hi everyone, I am resurrecting this thread. Where can I get a bike fit in Durban for a Road Bike? I am based in Durban North area.
  2. Hi everyone, I am looking for somewhere to service my Fox Front and Rear suspension in Durban. Where is the best place to go? I cannot seem to find a certified Fox service center in Durban, do I need to go to a certified Fox Service Centre or will my LBS be okay? I How often should I be servicing suspension? I am a weekend warrior, normally ride 60km to 80km per ride on trails.
  3. East Coast Cycling Club have club rides but they will leave from Durban. They normally meet at Pirates by the beach front. Try phone the local bike shop to see what clubs are in the ballito area.
  4. Thank you! I will definitely give Summit Bikes a try ????
  5. Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have attached an image of my Thru Axle, it works but its not ideal as the lever is snapped off. I actually see mine has SCT2E BOOST / 171.5mm x 12mm written on it. How would I find this? Do I call the Scott Agent perhaps? It is for a Scott Spark 900 Comp (2019 model). https://www.cyclelab.com/product/scott-spark-rc-900-comp-mountain-bike-2019
  6. Hi everyone, Seasons Greeting to all! I am looking for a Thru Axle (148mm Booster) like the one on the link below. Does anyone know where I can source one from? I am not having luck with local bike stores in Durban. https://www.cyclelab.com/product/scott-in-rear-thru-axle-148x12-boost-plug
  7. Just found the Eurus on EvoBikes for 17k, we just took my budget and tripled it Surely at this price point we should be looking at Carbon clinchers?
  8. I crashed a few weeks flying down a single track and wiped out, I flew over my handlebars and hit my head on rocks. My helmet cracked from the impact which it is designed to do. It was a R700 helmet that probably saved my life. Saying that I’ve realised how important a good helmet is so I bought a good quality helmet with MIPS that fits me extremely well...Just a tip... Cycle Lab was selling the helmet for R1500, I actually managed to haggle them down using their online chat and got it for R1000... Moral of the story, you can probably get away with a good cheap helmet but I would get the best helmet I can afford.
  9. The PR2 are definitely bomb proof. I normally ride mtb but got my road bike a few months back. I haven’t had the chance to test out other wheelsets so I’m hoping I am making a good decision by upgrading. The visions and token deep sections are both around the 1800g mark so not exactly light.
  10. Thanks Thomo, although the 420 are lovely they might be a bit out my budget. Thanks for the advice though
  11. Hi there Hubbers, Can anyone offer advice on some good budget Tom break wheelsets? Firstly, is it worth my while to upgrade my Giant PR-2 wheels? Will I notice any difference? I’m looking at some budget wheelsets but obviously open to suggestions. Vision 35 alloy Token 22A Token EC40A American Classic 350 Sprint My only concern is weight on the vision 35 and token ec40a although they do offer some aero gains. Token 22A Are nice and light but I weigh 85kg and not sure if I’m too heavy for these. American Classic look great as they are light and UST but also cost much more. Thanks and look forward to your advice!
  12. I usually dip my bike in Paraffin and rinse off with warm water.... In all honesty, I used Clean Green and a nail brush. I spray the CG on the nail brush and scrub the bottom portion of the chain so it cannot drip and seep in to any bearings. I complete the section, rinse well with water, move the pedal so there is a new section of the chain and continue. I try and do the same with other parts like cassette and chain ring but I do small portions at a time being very careful not to let the degreaser get in to bearing and seals.
  13. Thanks for the review. This wasnt even on my radar until now, might consider getting this as it looks like it offers a lot of value for money.
  14. thanks for the advice. Chinese carbon is something I have been looking at. Might be worth my time to revisit this! Glad to know they are holding up for you.
  15. Thanks, I am definitely looking as well. I bought my bike second hand, its an old TCR0 so I dont think these rims have tubeless. Do you think it is worth going tubeless?
  16. Hi everyone, I am looking to try and upgrade my Giant P-R2 11spd Wheelset on my Giant TCR 0 (rim break). Please bear in mind I ride MTB and I am new to road riding so have not had the opportunity to experience performance wheels. I consider myself a decent rider and can put in 100km on MTB or Road. Firstly, would it be advisable to upgrade these wheels, would I actually notice a significant increase in performance? The Giant PR-2 weigh about 1.9kg for the set so not exactly light. I am looking at the Toke 22A mainly because of their 1331g combined weight, to me that sounds like a considerable saving of almost 600g. There is not a lot of information out there however there are a few reviews that say they are great wheels. Am I sacrificing stiffness or strength by going so light? These are the lightest allow wheels I have found that I can afford. Would it also be worth my while to look at used wheels, maybe try an invest in something carbon or a higher specced wheelset? I am also open to looking at other brands and can possibly spend R7 000 at a push. Any advice on a brand or model will be greatly appreciated.
  17. It depends on what kind of riding you want to do. If it is simple trails and beach front rides then a 10k bike will definitely do the trick I started out with a Giant Talon 3 and it did the job.... for a while.... ... but if you are looking to do more technical trails or longer distances I would sincerely consider getting a good dual suspension with decent component, even a good pre owned. Fact: You will love mountain biking Fact: You will want to upgrade to a good bike Speaking from experience :-)
  18. Hi everyone, thanks for all the great advice. I really appreciate it. :-) At the moment I am looking for something on BikeHub, hopefully a good deal comes up soon.
  19. Hi Everyone, I have been thinking about getting a cheap indoor dumb trainer to keep the legs moving during the week. Has anyone had an experience with the Raleigh Magnetic trainer? They go for about 1300 at Game. Will this be okay or should I invest in something better like Giant Or Cycleops mag trainers which are double the price? I would obviously love a smart trainer but not sure budget allows for this. https://www.game.co.za/game-za/en/All-Game-Categories/Sports-%26-Leisure/Bicycles%2C-Scooters-%26-Skates/Bicycle-Accessories/Cycle-Accessories/Raleigh-Indoor-Bicycle-Trainer-Black/p/789448-EA
  20. Thanks, so do you just sand until smooth and then use car polish to shine? Wouldnt the car polish eventually fade away?
  21. Thanks for the feedback. What would I use as a clearcoat? Is clear spraypaint okay? Would I need to sand a clearcoat just the affected section or the entire part?
  22. Hi everyone, I bought a used Giant TCR0 and there are scratch marks on the carbon seatpost. It looks like it could have been caused from the seatpost slipping down. I know this can be quite common but i wanted to find out if there is any way to fix these scratches? I have tried rubbing with toothpaste but that hardly made a difference.
  23. I was in the same position as you and looking at the same bikes. I would go for the cannondale. As mentioned it has won bike of the year awards. From what I read the Edmonda is nice and light too. Edmonda is also full 105 I think. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I would skip Merida, I’m not a fan. That being said I actually ended up finding a fantastic deal on a pre owned, hardly used Giant TCR 0 with full Ultegra and I’m beyond happy. If you can wait and hunt around there are amazing deals out there.
  24. Hi Stevief, Thanks for the reply. I am also a mountain biker, looking to get in to road riding for some midweek morning club rides. I see that Giant Sizes like TCR and Propel come in Small, Medium, Large, etc... does this mean I should be looking at Size Small (52)? thanks!
