  1. Hey guys, Just wanted to let you know that I am going to pick up my new bike this afternoon! I have finally decided (after looking at quite a number of bikes) to go with the Silverback Phoenix! It comes with a lockout suspension and 9 speed Shimano Deore system. I'm getting it for R3300 brand new and in my opinion a very good buy compared to the other bikes in that price range. I feel that it might be a good start for me and I can always upgrade later to a bigger and better bike. Thanks for all the help guys! Based on the stuff you guys helped me with I could actually know what the sales guys were talking about and what to look out for. Thanks again!
  2. Right, so what different types of discs brakes do you get and what are the differences between them? Is there maybe a site that I could go to to read up on different bike components and what to look out for?
  3. Herewith the link to the Raleigh Nomad page with complete specifications and geometry http://www.raleigh.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=212&Itemid=70 I saw last night that it comes standard with disc brakes
  4. Also quite true EB. I will give it some consideration. On a different note, I popped into Linden Cycles yesterday and saw the Raleigh Nomad as well as the Silverback Alpine. Is Raleigh a bike worth considering? I only know the Dions / Pick 'n Pay versions of these bikes and those were as heavy as lead! This one does seem a lot better, but is it a worthy entry level bike?
  5. Thanks for the help guys! I will go and check it out! Joss - I had a look at the Silverback Alpine and Phoenix online now, and they look sweet! SP - TdF should be my closest LBS (hehehe) when moving to Heidelberg. I would like to see what Schwinn, Giant and GT have to offer in this price range. Any specific models I need to keep an eye out for?
  6. Thanks SP! Will pop into Linden this afternoon on my way home.
  7. Thanks slowpoke I stay in Strubens Valley, Roodepoort (for the time being). About 3 years ago I bought a Haro VGF2 from Linden Cycles, but I have sold the bike later since I wasn't using it enough at that stage. I am moving to Heidelberg (in Gauteng) in mid-April. So, I can either buy the bike now before we move or buy it when I am there.
  8. Now my rookie status is going to be showing...what does LBS stand for?
  9. Hi guys, Not only am I new to this forum, but I am sort-of new to cycling. I want to buy myself a mountain bike for under R3000 as a start. As and when the hobby picks up I will upgrade. Until then I want a bike that is the best value for money in this price range. Which brands / models would you recommend I look at? Thanks! Corn?
