  1. Got a set of Mavic 117 rims and i think Deore hubs
  2. So I've got an option to upgrade my complete groupset to XT. I'm running X7's all over with no hassles. The other alternative is to upgrade my wheelset to Crosstrails, which look like winners to me. Any idea's and why?
  3. Thanks for that 4. How do you know?
  4. I'm considering upgrading my complete groupset to XT. i have various bits of SRAM.Time for a change! My questions are as follows: 1. Front derailleur comes in 2 sizes 28.6 & 34.9 and 31.8 &34.9, how do i figure out what size to use? 2. How do I measure crank length, from the center of the BB to the center of the pedal spindle? 3. Re the rear derailleur, is the Shadow the best option? Shotski!
  5. Thanks, I'll have a look at that. The original derailleur went into the spokes, so it's a complete loss. Hence my reason for for making a new one. I used a 2mm mild steel flatbar with a hole at the end for the sprocket. It still moves and twists. I imagine that I'll have rebuild the chain, I took a bunch of links out?
  6. I'd like to find out, when converting to SS, can keep my old cassette? I'm trying to make a chain tensioner and I'm battling a bit. I find when I put torque on the peddles, the tensioner I've made moves, the chain slips\moves downhill, then comes off etc.. Any ideas on a homemade chain tensioner? and must I use only one sprocket? The bike is an el-cheapo that someone left at my office, so I don't want to spend major $$$. A single speed kit cost R500, which is more than the bike is worth
  7. In a discussion with my mates we concluded that going from 120 to 100 wouldn't cause problems. Prob be a bit more racy. The other way around would prob require u to check if your frame geometry could handle it, which is prob not a bad idea anyway. I changed from the Judy(piece of iron) and got the 100mm and it took about 2 weeks of crashes to get used to it!! LMAO (Personally i think the changes are so small it wouldn't change things too much but i think that's a thread on its own). That Fox is a winner, if you can carry the cost of the changes, go for it. The SID i dunno
  8. If I remember correctly, all those fox shocks come standard with that QR15( can't remember the right term) quick release, so it means a new hub if u have the skewer type.
  9. Dude, I just got the Reba myself from CRC. A nice xmas present to myself. What an upgrade! Light and sooo smooth. It came with a handlebar lockout that's a winner. I got the dual air version and once i got it pumped, it's been plug and play. Can't believe I waited so long to upgrade! Here's a cool link on setting up the Reba http://forums.mtbr.com/blog.php?do=showentry&e=1646&enum=1 Enjoy
