  1. Give Marco at CycleTech a call - he's in Kyalami. PM me if you want his cell number
  2. Agreed Mampara...there should be MUTUAL RESPECT
  3. Big Corps don't do anything if they don't think it will improve sales....let's hope they don't stop here...and they do MORE for cyclist safety awareness.... Something that in fact our cyclists themselves should be doing...but what a battle to get them to support causes/initiatives.
  4. Engen's latest advertisement asks motorists to respect cyclists. Hallelujah! A big corp taking the initiative to raise awareness for the cycling community. Thank you Engen! It was all over twitter & facebook yesterday. A FaceBook page "Cyclist supporting Engen" was started to show Engen that our community appreciates what they've done. Join other cyclists and show your support by becoming a member. CYCLISTS SUPPORTING ENGEN

Then I suggest you speak to the person who actually overheard the conversation and make sure that he heard correctly. THEN an anonymous tip off....for them to investigate further. Just give them a call with the name and category of rider...from a private number...voila. You've done the morally correct thing in this situation. Because if this is in fact the case - then this cyclist should be banned....and his parents (if he/she under 18) should be taken to task for allowing and administering illegal substances.

I think my family should take up mountain biking instead....with this kind of money being thrown at it.

And then parents want to know why their children keel over of a heart attack before they reach 25 - 30. Do they not know what they are doing to their children's lives? Bloody irresponsible. If I had to hear people discussing this topic...I don't think I'd be able to keep my mouth shut. Glad you're going to report them anonymously. Gauteng North Provincials this weekend (with a very poor turnout I might add) and drug free sport where there doing testing. They should be a hell of a lot more visible at our races. Road and MTB
  9. Thanks GWilson...as long as they're still alive and kicking. Broken bones can heal...can't get a life back.
  10. Mudda....geez - that was definitely a close call. Way too close for comfort. Let's hope and pray this accident was not a fatal one. :-(
  11. Apparently a cyclist was hit by a motor cyclist at the Wilro race today. According to my son, he doesn't think the cyclist made it and the motor cyclists in hospital. A vet cyclist?? He was cycling on the wrong side of the road on blind rise. This is all here say at this stage. Details very sketchy. Perhaps a hubber here knows more details?
  12. Gummibear...you must have had your juice this morning Spot on... this was taken in Lorraine
  13. Hear, hear! Just a pity it takes civilians to do the officer's of the law's jobs for them.
  14. Well well well.... the description of the car was spot on (can't really miss this beauty)...cause some cyclists rode past it this morning...alerted my brother's son...who went and took these. You can see where impact occurred....broken window etc. No wonder his shoulder is dislocated and he has broken ribs. Ouch! So if you are riding your bike in PE...watch out for this asshole. My brother tells me that the driver looked him straight in the eyes....just carried on turning. The car has the broken window - dented bonnet - and paint from his bike on the car as well.... They are tracking the cop car that was called to the scene and these photo's will accompany the case they are opening against the driver as well as the two cops that drove away from the scene. May Justice be done!
  15. The Tour de Eden was a great event..not for the faint hearted though...so I agree with LegTrap in that proposed distance and cut off times NOT for funriders at all. If you look at how the Cape Epic MTB was structured - they catered for pro's as well as recreational riders. so something along those lines...just shorter number of days - and cut off times in line with the funrider. I do believe that stage races should have a qualifying criteria....the aim is to at least have the guys/dolls finish the race. Not like the Epic where 25% of the starters didn't get past Stage 3. The back markers where fighting for survival!!
  16. +1 Someone, somewhere suggested Zoo Lake or Emmerentia for the Jhb ride. I think it was on the Facebook group. Yes - and we have it on our list for consideration by the organizers. But if you have any other suggestions - please send. Also - do you think we should have one for Gauteng - or two...one in Jhb and one in PTA? Thanks a mil
  17. ***BREAKING NEWS*** Robbie Hunter [Garmin-Transitions] & John Lee Augustyn [Team Sky] have both endorsed the Ride of Silence!!! This is amazing news... and we are very excited to have two of the biggest names in SA cycling back us! Thanks guys... As John Lee said:"Lets stand together and share the road as we are all equal!" Our website for Ride of Silence will be up and running soon. Will post link asap. Any suggestions for GAUTENG starting points needed and whether to have two starting locations...one in PTA and one in JHB...Please post your thoughts. Thanks for your feedback
  18. Thanks Wisecrack and gummibear. They have one of the cyclist dad's who works at the station looking into it for us. I'm sure it's the same road of Andriette's accident. Nephew said he'd be able to identify the cops... So trust the tracking system was working...you just never know. I'll keep updates coming..will be interesting to see how things pan out.
  19. Perhaps it would be a good idea to take a photo on cellphone and post it here if you're suspicious about someone shady riding a bike that you think costs more that their annual salary. And location of where taken. You never know...it might be a hubbers bike. I know the possibility of catching the guy is low (if in fact the bike was stolen)...but then all hubbers can be on the look out....
  20. Thanks Slowpoke. He is suffering dislocated shoulder - being scanned and sonars being done ...surgeon will evaluate later today. and 2 x broken back ribs. But he's ALIVE...thank God for that. This happened on Old Cape Road near Jack's Cafe (Greenbushes side)
  21. How's this... My brother in PE got hit by a car today...guy turned infront of him. The good citizen travelling behind him, stopped the perp and waited for cops and ambulance to arrive. When my nephew got there, he went to chat to the cops but was told to bugger off...(sure that nephew was not too friendly considering his father is lying in the road) To cut a long story short...nephew complied and went to his father at the ambulance.... LOW AND BEHOLD...when he looked again, the COPS & the PERP had left the scene. No registration numbers where taken...what for..the cops where there - not so? WRONG!! if you are in an accident and coherent - or you are a bystander...use the cellphone camera and take pics. So much for our "officers of the law"...
  22. ? Hoooooooo Mampara... treading on thin ice with that statements... Luckily I have a sense of humor. Woman are certainly allowed...and I'll have the masking tape ready if needed. Hope you will be joining us
  23. This doesn't only happen here unfortunately...my son advertised his laptop in Junk Mail, same story - faxed him an internet trf proof of payment...but having been scammed before, he said he'd want to confirm with his bank first...strangest thing though - his bank statement showed the amount coming in...but the very next transaction was the amount going back out again. The bank actually froze his account. What drama to get it activated again. One just needs to be vigilant at all times. Sign of the times i suppose.
  24. Great stuff Danger Dassie. Thanks craigd - will post it on your website as well Please spread the word guys/dolls. I know that the Bela Bela race is on the same weekend, so many won't be able to attend due to their commitment to race....but all the non racing cyclists - please show your support. Copy and paste my original message into an email - and mail to the "non hubber" cyclists in your contacts list. Let's try and make this the BIGGEST memorial ride EVER. if you have any ideas for the Jhb/Pta starting point for our ride - let me know. We'd like to make it as central as possible for riders from PTA and Jozi...but we also want to make sure that the route is safe. All ideas more than welcome
  25. So far we have Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth on board. Looking for someone who will help co-ordinate it in Durban. Any takers?? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ray-D-Chaplin-Solo-Adventurer/107611491478?ref=mf
