  1. We're busy sorting out logistics. You guys will be the first to know
  2. Join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 20km/h) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways. WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION EXIST? * To HONOUR those who have been injured or killed * To RAISE AWARENESS that we are here * To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD THE RIDE OF SILENCE WILL NOT BE QUIET On May 19th 2010, at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe and continued on May 22nd in the Southern Hemisphere. Date:Saturday, May 22, 2010 Time:10:00am - 12:00pm Location:Johannesburg, Cape Town, South Africa (venues will be confirmed)Other areas such as Durban and Port Elizabeth might be added. Updated will be posted here - so stay tuned. On May 20th 2009, in 283 confirmed locations, in 18 countries, on 5 continents, cyclists took to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves. In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride Of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed. The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 20km/h and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during Bike Safety month and week in the U.S.A., aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured.
  3. A bit of humour on the subject: Malema didn't call the reporter a BASTARD...he thought his name was Ted and called him "Baas Ted"
  4. Nice one...will sure use the site as well as advertise on it. How about the revenue going to Sign-Up Cyclist Safety Initiative? Since not many cyclist out there supported the National Cyclist Safety & Memorial ride. Just a suggestion www.backabuddy.co.za/cyclistsafety
  5. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=6&art_id=vn20100412043612160C752965 Well said Holly Roller. Another comment that was on this site also rings true. "1 Hour ago Tactics wrote : When will you realize that Malema is just the scapegoat, what is happening behind the scenes while everyone is up in arms about Malema, what is the ANC doing in the background while we focus on the distraction?"

  10. Why reinvent the wheel. (unless "hubbers" aren't "bookers". There is a FB page where any dangers or accidents or hot spots can be recorded. Got to: VTC-SA Cyclists unite against reckless drivers and road dangers - there are over 400 members and this group works closely with Sign-Up. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=341691502334
  11. An airplane was about to crash; there were 5 passengers on board but Only 4 parachutes. The first passenger said, 'I'm Christiano Rinaldo, the world's number 1 footballer. FIFA needs me, I can't afford to die.' So he took the first pack and Left the plane. The second passenger, Hillary Clinton, said, 'I am the wife of the Former President of the United States , I am the most ambitious woman in The world. I am also New York Senator and a potential future President.' She just took the 2nd parachute and jumped out of the plane.. The third passenger, Julius Malema, said, 'I'm also a President. Millions of South African youth always look to me for guidance. Above all I'm the cleverest youth President in African history, and Africa 's people Won't let me die'.Futhermore I have millions that I have not spent yet. So he put on a pack next to him and jumped out of the plane. The fourth passenger, Nelson Mandela, says to the fifth passenger, a 10yr old Chinese school boy, 'I'm old and have lived a fruitful life, God will decide my fate, so I'll let you have the last parachute'. The boy said, 'It's OK, there's a parachute left for you. Africa 's Cleverest (Julius) has taken my schoolbag'.
  12. Come on cyclists....we're just about at the halfway mark of the target. Let's get to the target before Ray reaches Cape Town. We can do this!
  13. Chubba... Jeremy said on rude awakening this morning that in future JM will be referred to on their show as Octopus....
  14. Unfortunately.....there is no pill for stupidity!
  15. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/ourpaper/view/2010-04-05 So much for JM not getting international news. Daily Star in UK - front page....this is NOT good for the WC or SA at all.
  16. The same thought crossed my mind...Weight Weenie just verbalized it
  17. What I can't understand is why our government is not taking him to task....unless of course, he's doing their dirty work for them and this is what they actually want? Zim land reform in SA...Scary thought.
  18. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Media-shouldve-walked-out-on-Malema-20100408 These journos should have just walked out.
  19. What shocking behaviour!! So much for being gagged. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Malema-kicks-out-BBC-journalist-20100408
  20. Lobbying should also be? for a visible number plate so the bike owner can be traced if a misdemeanor is committed. This could be incorporated with a road users lisence. I agree BigH...if we had enough supporters - I am sure that Sign Up's initiative need not only be putting up cycling awareness signs - but to also raise awareness through various other campaigns...such as the one you've just mentioned. But it HAS TO start somewhere....and here is a perfect starting point, don't you think?
  21. This pic was taken now at the Carnival City Macteel Cycle Classic. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to spend a bit of time with the little critter.... a good laugh! And lots of chirps on FBook.
  22. No prob... He was a really great kid...full of chirps And will be sorely missed. The Junior Champs in Bethlehem had a memorial service for him yesterday before the start of the event...and this year's U16 & Junior Tour will be in honor of Adam.
