  1. With the shortened distance they have surely negated any possibility of lodging a travel insurance claim as there will be 'something of a ride'. Just a thought ...
  2. I have just got this email from a mate. From: Cycletour bookings [mailto:cycletourbookings@elliottmobility.com] Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2014 11:32 AM To: Cycletour Subject: Price Increase Notification (Cycle Tour Bike Transportation 2014) Dear Elliott Mobility customer Please ignore this Price Increase Notification if you have already booked your bike transportation with Elliott Mobility to the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour in 2014. IF YOU HAVE NOT BOOKED YOUR BIKE TRANSPORTATION AND STILL PLAN TO DO SO, PLEASE TAKE CAREFUL NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING: Due to growing demand for our bike transportation service every year together with limited capacity and restrictions on parking space in Cape Town, Elliott Mobility is forced to increase the cost of our bike transportation service from all locations from Monday, February 10, 2014. Current rates: Single bikes @ R1 090.00 and Tandems bikes @ R1 690.00 New rates from Monday, February 10, 2014: Single bikes @ R1 500.00 and Tandem bikes @ R2 300.00 We are not discounting the possibility of further price increases closer to the event and we encourage you to please book your bike transportation without delay (www.elliottmobility.com/argus/) in order to take advantage of our current rates. Our online booking site will close without prior notice once full capacity is reached. For any queries, please contact us on 011-256-3000 or cycletour@elliottmobility.com We look forward to being of service to you again in 2014. Warm regards, Now I know that they are in it to make money and they operate a business, and, and ... but what irks me more than anything is that their main reason is "Due to growing demand for our bike transportation service". They can justify a 38% increase due to the demand - WTF! In my opinion this relates to pure greed and hope next year their "demand" diminishes!
  3. Doing the Kernick ride on Sunday - first one! I have no idea what I should be doing with regards to plotting routes, times, etc. Who may I get hold of to obtain the route and general info? Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.
  4. When installing a new chain on a road bike, I was taught that on your largest chain ring and smallest cassette spocket the rear derailleur should be in a straight vertical line - I don't know if it is the same on a MTB.
  5. I agree 100% - it's all about the money!
  6. Wiggins won't defend TDF Published: 31 May 2013 18:17 Source: Reuters Bradley Wiggins Paris - Bradley Wiggins's Tour de France challenge ended before it even started on Friday when the defending champion was ruled out of Team Sky's selection for next month's race because of physical problems. Briton Wiggins withdrew from the Giro d'Italia this month with a chest infection and he has also been struggling with a knee problem, meaning he cannot train properly to defend his title on the Tour, which starts on June 29 in Corsica. "With illness, injury and treatment Brad has gone past the point where he can be ready for the Tour. It's a big loss but, given these circumstances, we won't consider him for selection," Team Sky principal Dave Brailsford said in a statement. "He hasn't been able to train hard since the Giro and now he needs further rest." Briton Chris Froome, runner-up last year, had already been named as the team leader in the three-week race, where he is expecting a tough challenge from Spanish twice champion Alberto Contador. "It's a huge disappointment not to make the Tour de France," said Wiggins. "I desperately wanted be there, for the team and for all the fans along the way - but it's not going to happen. I can't train the way I need to train and I'm not going to be ready. "Once you accept that, it's almost a relief not having to worry about the injury and the race against time."
  7. I would appreciate some assistance and opinions on the following:- Overnight, my Polar S725X's screen developed what I call leaks (as shown in the attached picture). I am extremely careful how I handle my watch and placed it in my running shoe overnight on a side table with all my running kit for my morning run. When I woke to get ready I saw the top 'leak' which 24 hours later had a sibling with the bottom one! There is no way that there was any impact on the watch. Comments and suggestions from any Polar representative or persons who have had a similar issue would be appreciated.
  8. I was out with a small group, early this morning, for a loop to the Cradle and back, along Hendrik Potgeiter. One of our group got a puncture just before the Ruimsig Spur, so we stopped to assist. We were getting off the emergency lane, a good 3m from the main lane, when our friends bicycle was struck, at speed, by a Colt Double-Cab who just drove off unperturbed - fortunately he had just dismounted from his bike at the time. 500m down the road the same motorist rear-ended a taxi and had to stop as his car was badly damaged. A kind motorist who saw the whole event happen, returned to where we were to see if we needed assistance. He gave our friend a lift to where the motorist had stopped, who upon questioning claimed he knew nothing about hitting a cyclist! We asked the Metro Police at the scene if the driver could be tested for drugs or alcohol and were told that the cyclist involved had to accompany them to Soweto for this. We thought it was better to report the incident as a hit-and-run rather than join the two cases together as hopefully a criminal charge will be brought against this driver. It is unfathomable that someone would drive off unconcerned after hitting a cyclist and have no moral conscience when he closes his eyes tonight. What is happening to this world!
  9. Very Sad ... From News24
  10. Polar product: S725X When purchased: 2010-08 New/Second-hand: Second-hand When did problem occur: After changing to full carbon bike (stem and bars too) Describe problem: Intermitent HR readings when unit mounted on bars - changed all batteries and Wear Link strap Describe solution: Wear unit on arm now with no problems whatsoever! Cost involved: Unit and transmitter batteries by Polar and new Wear Link strap I don't know if anyone else has experienced this - seems like all the carbon influences the readings
