  1. Hi All, It's taken awhile to get to this point after months of umm and ahh and well COVID, my ultimate goal is to compete in olympic to full ironman. will decide once I have actually experienced it first hand. I am coming from a heavy strength sport background, and have been researching awhile (google research dangerous) annoying people with questions, and slowly been building up the necessary gear, before COVID cut me off at the knees for 2020 long story short, I have managed to drop from close to 130kg peak bodybuilding size, down to 88kg and I still think I can get down another 4-5kg before investing in any other wearable gear (wetsuit and try suit) anyways, the reason for the post, I have set up a wahoo kickr4 with my new road bike and I have a treadmill in there as well, so I can start on my base fitness (its shocking) I have signed up with Zwift and Trainer road and I am busy setting everything up. (I will try training peaks as well, but seems like the majority favour Trainer road) Now, I need to choose a base plan to follow while we stuck at home, as I am setting up my trainer road account. obviously this rules out pool sessions which is a ball ache. Now from what I have read, its best to start with a sprint triathlon, and I was fully onboard for the trinity ones. Now that I have a lot of time on my hands to train (building up slowly) it's time for my stupid questions..... when choosing a base foundation phase, do I choose one for sprint, olympic, half or full ironman ? and secondly, what do I do with the swimming training portion ? leave it out ? the idea is to keep repeating these until such time as I have a comp in mind, and can start peaking for that comp. as soon as things open up, I will investigate a proper swim school, cycle club, running advice or hire proper coach to assist me through my first Tri
  2. much appreciated, I settled on the kickr4 and busy setting it up, and learning the in and outs of software and choosing the right program. I wanted the Neo 2t but patience isn't a virtue lol
  3. I pulled the trigger and grabbed the wahoo kickr and decided on the Merida Reacto 6000 ,I am getting fitted and picking up tomorrow. getting back on road, I am nervous, but need to start getting some miles in, and out of lockdown limbo. thank you all for the advice, I was hoping for better news on the flux 2 , as I know the neo 2 is a wonderful trainer, just didn’t want to wait, and I am sure I can’t go wrong either way.
  4. going to just grab the wahoo kick 4 now quick while they have stock. now to decide on my bike (Road but mainly triathlon goals) Merida reacto 6000 disc 2020 (Middle price range) or Bianchi Sempre pro 2018 (Cheapest) or Bianchi Aria 2020 or 2019 (need to confirm which year)
  5. as I go shop to shop, its all I am seeing available. I am most certainly open to anything decent. Neo2t is first prize as it seems to have the most consistent reviews. it used to be all wahoo, but for some reason that seems to have fallen out of favour up here in Guateng, or at least that's the impression I get from going shop to shop looking. I can probably source a wahoo kickr4 but not sure if its a bit long in the tooth now, I think I have seen one kick core floating around. going to quickly dive and see that Neo 2 in the classifieds. then I can sort out what bikes to get haha
  6. Hi all, Have a ton of questions as I switch to road bikes , but for now my most urgent one is The flux 2 ,seems to be the only trainer around and I not really keen on waiting for the neo2t as there is zero stock anywhere This leaves me with the tacx flux 2 Reviews are non existent, complaints however there are many, mostly down to calibration and power issues with Zwift. The most encouraging news I read on dcrainmaker is that they quietly resolved the issue late last year. For anyone who has one or who has purchased one recently , is it a good buy ? Or should I suck up my lack of patience and wait another 4 to 6 weeks ?
  7. just an update from Garmin SA, they are aware of the problem, and it will be fixed in an upcoming update. "Thank you for contacting Product Support. Sorry to hear about your issue. Regrettably, this is an issue we have picked up related to updating the TopoAfrica V6 maps on all the devices. We are currently waiting on a forthcoming software updated, which will be provided by our software engineers in due time to resolve this issue. In the current time, your device is installed with Topo Maps that you can use. Please can i ask for the following info so i can add you as an impacted user. To Access The Sync Reports and App Diagnostics From you "My Day" Screen, tap on the "More" button on your Gamin Connect Mobile App. If you are using an iOS device, you would find this on the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If Android, it will be on the top-left of your screen, depicted using three stacked horizontal lines. Scroll to the bottom of the list of options, till you select the option "Settings". Under the heading "Tech Details" you would then find the "App Diagnostics" and "Sync Reports" options there.I would then require you to access each of those options individually, where you would select the "Share" button (depicted with a three dotted button) in order to attach both the Sync Reports and the App Diagnostics, as requested above. Please may you include the Garmin Folder with your mail. Connect the Garmin device to the computer Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer/File Explorer Select This PC (Windows 10 only) Open the Garmin drive listed1 Right-click the Garmin Folder and select Copy2 Right-click on the Desktop and select Paste Double-click the new Garmin folder on the Desktop Drag all Disk Image Files (.img files) to the Recycle Bin Drag the Map folder to the trash if present Close the Garmin folder window Right-click the Garmin folder on the desktop Select Send to Select Compressed (zipped) folder Attach the new Garmin.zip file on the desktop to an e-mail replyNOTE: The Garmin.zip file cannot exceed 25MB when emailing it to Product Support. If Garmin.zip exceeds 25 MB after following these instructions, delete the following items from the copied Garmin folder on the desktop before compressing it again: Screen or Scrn folder .FIT files in the Activity folder that are older than 30 days"
  8. we in the same boat, the biggest "success" in other words it loaded the longest before an error was now, when I deleted Garmin Express again, and then followed the YouTube tutorial on how to get rid of all the com.garmin.renu files, both in preferences and cache. I downloaded Garmin Express again fresh, and added one device (530) and started the map update, it started well and on 0% and was going along well for about 10-12 min and then boom error. hooked up the Fenix 6, loaded device and tried there again, same issue, error almost immediately. apparently there is a work around whereby you can remove the map itself and reload fresh, but I cannot find where, and too scared I delete something crucial by mistake lol Joh by far the most frustrating and annoying thing ever, wish I could blame Eskom this time, but alas must be something technical I am overlooking. I dont even know if it adds anything useful at this stage, but its annoying seeing one update pending every time I hook up a device
  9. Hi, I have searched the net for days now, and cannot find a solution. I purchased both the Fenix 6x and 530 bundle recently, and although I have managed to update maps for all regions BUT Africa, on both devices. various install progress and then error, I have tried removing Garmin Express, reloading express, removing devices , reloading devices, hardwired my Mac to fiber to make sure maybe it was wifi issues but I run a stable 120mb line up and down so not that. I tried downloading basecamp to work around through there. This seems to be a common problem, with a few workarounds I can't figure out. being that Africa is a 4.8gb file and the largest of the lot, I assumed it was a storage issue, but I have well over 10gb on the 530 open, my understanding is that Garmin deletes the current map, and reinstalls the new updated one, and that the error seems to be that garmin gets a hiccup deleting the original map. I am technically challenged so going into the back end to manually delete maps scares me.
  10. yet another newbie, more the merrier 42 and getting into the scene for the first time, still finding my feet. Based in JHB. The first bike is a Scott Scale 980 29 hardtail to learn on, fall on lol before deciding what and if I need anything better, more suited to what I want to ride, later on, no idea yet what to expect or what I will be drawn to. I hope to learn a lot more from you fine people, with loads more experience.
