  1. It was my bad…. i kept trying to get my watts to register, and was in such a tizz this AM, i finally realized the workout had been loaded in Bpm and not watts……. Ugh i feel like such a nana, after 6 hours now of rebooting, wiping and reinstalling everything aargghhh we live and we learn the hard way lol thank you as always, this forum always helps, even if its to get me to think harder.
  2. Thank you Shaper (as always) i will drop them an email, and see if they can assist.
  3. Hi all, i train daily indoors, with a Garmin 530/ wahoo kickr 4 set up. i have my workouts loaded to the device, i climb on and follow workout and the wahoo does the rest. today i climbed on, saw my workout, started it, and zero resistance or control over my wahoo. trainer seems to be set to resistance mode and not ERG but cant see where to change. I have done. A factory reset, done spin downs, reconnected all sensors, and still cannot get the Garmin to control my workout. I am technically challenged so i am sure, this is user error somewhere. Any advice, or a setting i am messing up, would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Finally back training, had knee surgery in November, removed a lot of cartilage, meniscus was torn apart, so they tried to repair, but ended up removing parts of it, and then replacing my knee cap. Managed to start up again in mid Jan, and slowly slowly building up strength and fitness again, so a year later i am as much a newb as i was then, and equally unfit, but i am happy with my improvement and just want to get back in the pool now. PF closed their pools under lockdown 3 grrrrr. Still haven’t cycled on the road, still looking for a second bike for the trainer lol but oh so grateful to be able to crank the bike again, and wog gently, i thought my attempt at my bucket list Ironman was dead. Hoping everyone is keeping their chin up, i am taking this time to really build a solid base for my very first Tri. Whenever that maybe
  5. much appreciated and will take your advice to heart I can't wait to get back, and I can't wait to join you fine people on at a comp. I will just practice patience and remind myself I ain't no young pup anymore lol ahhh maaannn shew this brings back great memories, I was a sponsored whitewater paddler for a few years, paddling for wave sport kayaks all over USA, Canada and South America (Futaleufu river Chile) , got into swift water rescue, and I am a grade 5 instructor with ACA well I was 25 years ago haha I started with fibreglass and the Duzi, ended up working and making a few kayaks, ran a kayak school, before discovering whitewater. man oh man those were good old days, just in JHB after a certain skill level, you need a lot of travelling to find decent water, upper Sabie being the closest for technical creaking, or Lesotho and surrounds. the 2000 floods with the Vaal running over 2000 cubics doing recovery work, was the highlight for the Vaal river near Parys.
  6. Well knee hasn’t gotten any better, and have been restricted to swimming only for a number of weeks, while i waited to see a highly recommended doctor. After MRIs, follow ups etc. tomorrow is D day for surgery. replace broken patella repair medial meniscus (stitches etc) investigate and compress cyst on ACL. Pre admission COVID test yesterday and blood work. From what i understand 6-8 weeks crutches and rehab.....seriously hoping after all this, i can run again and resume my goal of one day finishing a triathlon.
  7. Good day fellow Hubbers, runners, and looney tunes, Injury - Potential Meniscus tear So i started generic foundation training for triathlons earlier in the year, got through 5-6 weeks, before i had a tumble on my MTB, and was out for around 4-5 weeks. Mainly due to ribs and ankle, nothing serious. I started up again, but from the start again, a few weeks back. The Monday did a light 20 min WOG, Tuesday did a 5km TT to see where i was at fitness wise. Since then been struggling with left knee injury that isn’t healing, after some investigation discovered my cleat position was wrong, and my shoes i had chosen were also wrong, this we discovered when i went to the sports medical center at Loftus for analysis. Although i had neutral shoes the inner heel did not offer enough support and was collapsing under my weight. I was “prescribed” different neutral shoes and they feel more comfortable and stable. The pain is exactly where a medial meniscus tear would be, and sometimes down the rear tendons behind the knee, but this tightness comes and goes on the rear of the knee. When i am cycling on the trainer - No pain Swimming sessions - No pain Running - almost impossible, i run with a limp on the left, and the pain is immediately there, so i stop immediately. Walking also causes some discomfort as does walking up and down stairs, it comes and goes though. If i lie on my back and bend my leg into my chest, i can feel pain i that region. I really want to get back to running, anyone who has had similar (assuming my diagnosis is somewhat accurate) How long did this take to come right ? Is it simply just rest till i am pain free again?
  8. Wishing the best and a speedy recovery. That’s a very eina injury, glad the prognoses and recovery time is positive. As mentioned already, do your rehab
  9. Sheweee baptism by fire lol thank you all, the videos helped, the comments helped me check certain things. We sat the whole weekend, trying different things, from the videos and others. Managed to do a spin down, managing to change gears now, and no changing gears on its own. The smallest gear and largest one still not perfect, smallest gear is 95% there , slight rough sensation at the bottom of the rotation, and on the largest one, its a bit noisy, chain rattle. Otherwise the rest seem ok no complaints. But cant really dial it in any further, no matter how we play with the front and rear derailer. Like someone mentioned it maybe a slightly bent derailer, cant really visually tell, but i am not 100% sure what i am looking for, or how it got bent, its only ever been on the trainer since brand new, and to get tuned up. Maybe i bumped somewhere in the process. At least now i can get my workouts in, which is the main thing.
  10. Extremely helpful thank you, learn something everyday. Thank you, i suppose RTFM comes to mind, and this has motivated me to investigate another bike for the Trainer, i briefly considered it, and now i see it will be worth the money, to avoid this frustration. Probably gets a Bit easier with more experience and technical knowledge of the workings of the bike.
  11. Lol facepalm, yeah realizing that Now haha
  12. I think the cassette is fine, initially the guys at Cyclefit, came through, set my bikes up and the wahoo for me, all was working fine. The bike has never seen the road, and only came off when i got the message it needed to come in for a “tune up” and then back on the trainer. Thank you all for your patience, i am truly technically challenged, when it comes to this.
  13. If i play with this rotating knob, it improves in some areas and worse in others , so it will now shift to the top gear, but the last three smaller (hard) gears noisy and rough .... aannndd i am just trying to see how to post pics lol so “this rotating knob“ makes more sense lol
  14. Had to go check, I don’t think its the di2 , just says Shimano ultegra , checked the specs and says the same, nothing specified after “ultegra” , went to check bike and cant see any further names or models.
  15. Went and used my hands to spin the peddles and shift gears , while watching the cassette. smallest cog and the next one up it skips between, then if i move to the 3rd cog its “ok” ,keep shifting up, and it gets worse again, and it maxes out on the second largest cog, and wont change to the biggest ring. Have the Shimano ultegra system on. Searching YouTube now for anything remotely similar.
  16. Hi all, Purchased a wahoo kickr4 during COVID and a suitable bike to train. After a few issues on initial set up (user error) i managed a few good workouts . The new bike had to go in for a tune up at cycle lab. Came back, dropped to last gear rear, big chain ring front, dropped her onto wahoo, rear break lock in, and thru axle, basically a reversal of taking her off. Did a spin down test , did notice a slight chain noise. But didn’t ride further. Had a big crash on my mountain bike the following day and have only now recovered to resume training (4 weeks) climb on wahoo kickr for yesterdays session, and didn’t make 2 min, gears change on their own, keeps skipping gears with no input form me, and not randomly , just all the time. Now i cant figure out what changed, i will go through the set up again this am, i tried googling, but the solutions seemed above my pay grade and knowledge of bikes (adjusting derailer etc) my first thought was somehow the spacing changed as mine is a not the norm, its a Merida reacto 6000 disc. If anyone has experienced this before, and hopefully had an easy fix, or simply user error on my part when i reinstalled the bike ?
  17. Appreciated ....i am hunting now for a cheap road bike in my size In classifieds (Gauteng), otherwise i see a cheap scott road bike new for under 10k, if i can convince my lady to ride (like baptizing a cat) , it will fit her as well, we both 180cm in height.
  18. Fantastic....off to the classifieds i go
  19. Didn’t want to start a whole new thread. Training has been going well, and seeing improvements in my fitness. I am stuck in a conundrum on which bike to leave on the indoor trainer. My road bike or my Scott hard tail MTB. Is there any difference on the trainer between bikes? With no triathlons in my immediate future, I am spending most of my indoor sessions simply surviving, I don’t get into aero positions, things I am sure I will do closer to a comp. conundrum comes in on which bike I use most on weekends, the road bike hasn’t even seen the road lol I use the mountain bike most sundays on trials as my “long” ride on the weekends, but I know I need to get the road bike out and gain experience. Which at this stage will be riding on my own wherever I can find a suitable spot, being in Fourways it am not far from cradle. I only have a few friends who partake in MTB and willing to put up with my slow ass. Taking the bike off and on the trainer all the time is a ball ache, otherwise will go find a cheap road bike and slap it on permanently.
  20. My giro after a spectacular over the handlebars crash into some rocks yesterday. Nice thick gash through it and few areas broken off. Considering I was badly winded and some other bumps and scrapes, I was more concerned with my ribs, I only really noticed the helmet damage this am. Could have been a nasty gash on my head, so will take it as win and go get a replacement today
  21. Fantastic achievement !!!! Sheweee
  22. Give it a tri they said .... it will be fun they said ..... Bank account : WTF are you doing... thankfully just a wetsuit left Happy Friday peeps, chomping at the bit waiting for any comp to work towards, but loving the improvements and ah haaa moments when figuring things out, especially with the help of this forum and members
  23. It’s just a generic base program for Olympic , so luckily just one like this for the week, the rest are 30-32 min z2 efforts x 2 sessions but I think its a great idea to start getting outside and not rely on treadmill and indoor all the time, only outside training I do is mountain bike ride once a week if lucky lately.
  24. Great suggestion thanks, I was almost doing similar, jumping off and slowing the belt down, but this sounds far easier to get the actual work in more effectively
  25. I went to chat to him, really nice human being and knowledgeable really happy with his time and service. As luck would have it, I fall between a size 7/8 and 11 lol So will prep for a set up, looks like the orca sonar is the best bet, ugly as hell though (green ), but seems middle ground, the 3.8 was a bit higher grade, and I still have a lot of flexibility when I put it hands over head, they go quite far back. May look at huub too
