  1. It was my bad…. i kept trying to get my watts to register, and was in such a tizz this AM, i finally realized the workout had been loaded in Bpm and not watts……. Ugh i feel like such a nana, after 6 hours now of rebooting, wiping and reinstalling everything aargghhh we live and we learn the hard way lol thank you as always, this forum always helps, even if its to get me to think harder.
  2. Thank you Shaper (as always) i will drop them an email, and see if they can assist.
  3. Hi all, i train daily indoors, with a Garmin 530/ wahoo kickr 4 set up. i have my workouts loaded to the device, i climb on and follow workout and the wahoo does the rest. today i climbed on, saw my workout, started it, and zero resistance or control over my wahoo. trainer seems to be set to resistance mode and not ERG but cant see where to change. I have done. A factory reset, done spin downs, reconnected all sensors, and still cannot get the Garmin to control my workout. I am technically challenged so i am sure, this is user error somewhere. Any advice, or a setting i am messing up, would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Finally back training, had knee surgery in November, removed a lot of cartilage, meniscus was torn apart, so they tried to repair, but ended up removing parts of it, and then replacing my knee cap. Managed to start up again in mid Jan, and slowly slowly building up strength and fitness again, so a year later i am as much a newb as i was then, and equally unfit, but i am happy with my improvement and just want to get back in the pool now. PF closed their pools under lockdown 3 grrrrr. Still haven’t cycled on the road, still looking for a second bike for the trainer lol but oh so grateful to be able to crank the bike again, and wog gently, i thought my attempt at my bucket list Ironman was dead. Hoping everyone is keeping their chin up, i am taking this time to really build a solid base for my very first Tri. Whenever that maybe
  5. much appreciated and will take your advice to heart I can't wait to get back, and I can't wait to join you fine people on at a comp. I will just practice patience and remind myself I ain't no young pup anymore lol ahhh maaannn shew this brings back great memories, I was a sponsored whitewater paddler for a few years, paddling for wave sport kayaks all over USA, Canada and South America (Futaleufu river Chile) , got into swift water rescue, and I am a grade 5 instructor with ACA well I was 25 years ago haha I started with fibreglass and the Duzi, ended up working and making a few kayaks, ran a kayak school, before discovering whitewater. man oh man those were good old days, just in JHB after a certain skill level, you need a lot of travelling to find decent water, upper Sabie being the closest for technical creaking, or Lesotho and surrounds. the 2000 floods with the Vaal running over 2000 cubics doing recovery work, was the highlight for the Vaal river near Parys.
  6. Well knee hasn’t gotten any better, and have been restricted to swimming only for a number of weeks, while i waited to see a highly recommended doctor. After MRIs, follow ups etc. tomorrow is D day for surgery. replace broken patella repair medial meniscus (stitches etc) investigate and compress cyst on ACL. Pre admission COVID test yesterday and blood work. From what i understand 6-8 weeks crutches and rehab.....seriously hoping after all this, i can run again and resume my goal of one day finishing a triathlon.
  7. Good day fellow Hubbers, runners, and looney tunes, Injury - Potential Meniscus tear So i started generic foundation training for triathlons earlier in the year, got through 5-6 weeks, before i had a tumble on my MTB, and was out for around 4-5 weeks. Mainly due to ribs and ankle, nothing serious. I started up again, but from the start again, a few weeks back. The Monday did a light 20 min WOG, Tuesday did a 5km TT to see where i was at fitness wise. Since then been struggling with left knee injury that isn’t healing, after some investigation discovered my cleat position was wrong, and my shoes i had chosen were also wrong, this we discovered when i went to the sports medical center at Loftus for analysis. Although i had neutral shoes the inner heel did not offer enough support and was collapsing under my weight. I was “prescribed” different neutral shoes and they feel more comfortable and stable. The pain is exactly where a medial meniscus tear would be, and sometimes down the rear tendons behind the knee, but this tightness comes and goes on the rear of the knee. When i am cycling on the trainer - No pain Swimming sessions - No pain Running - almost impossible, i run with a limp on the left, and the pain is immediately there, so i stop immediately. Walking also causes some discomfort as does walking up and down stairs, it comes and goes though. If i lie on my back and bend my leg into my chest, i can feel pain i that region. I really want to get back to running, anyone who has had similar (assuming my diagnosis is somewhat accurate) How long did this take to come right ? Is it simply just rest till i am pain free again?
  8. Appreciated ....i am hunting now for a cheap road bike in my size In classifieds (Gauteng), otherwise i see a cheap scott road bike new for under 10k, if i can convince my lady to ride (like baptizing a cat) , it will fit her as well, we both 180cm in height.
  9. Fantastic....off to the classifieds i go
  10. Didn’t want to start a whole new thread. Training has been going well, and seeing improvements in my fitness. I am stuck in a conundrum on which bike to leave on the indoor trainer. My road bike or my Scott hard tail MTB. Is there any difference on the trainer between bikes? With no triathlons in my immediate future, I am spending most of my indoor sessions simply surviving, I don’t get into aero positions, things I am sure I will do closer to a comp. conundrum comes in on which bike I use most on weekends, the road bike hasn’t even seen the road lol I use the mountain bike most sundays on trials as my “long” ride on the weekends, but I know I need to get the road bike out and gain experience. Which at this stage will be riding on my own wherever I can find a suitable spot, being in Fourways it am not far from cradle. I only have a few friends who partake in MTB and willing to put up with my slow ass. Taking the bike off and on the trainer all the time is a ball ache, otherwise will go find a cheap road bike and slap it on permanently.
  11. Give it a tri they said .... it will be fun they said ..... Bank account : WTF are you doing... thankfully just a wetsuit left Happy Friday peeps, chomping at the bit waiting for any comp to work towards, but loving the improvements and ah haaa moments when figuring things out, especially with the help of this forum and members
  12. It’s just a generic base program for Olympic , so luckily just one like this for the week, the rest are 30-32 min z2 efforts x 2 sessions but I think its a great idea to start getting outside and not rely on treadmill and indoor all the time, only outside training I do is mountain bike ride once a week if lucky lately.
  13. Great suggestion thanks, I was almost doing similar, jumping off and slowing the belt down, but this sounds far easier to get the actual work in more effectively
  14. Odd question, as I am still coming to grips with all this pain cave technology. I managed 2 short run sessions on the treadmill. One was fine which was a zone 1/2 steady jog that I did a walk run for the duration. The second session called for warm ups and then various times in certain zones : 20 sec zone 4 and 40 secs recovery, how is this even possible, by the time I get the treadmill to 13 or 14 speed it's taken 20 sec to get there and equally so on getting back to fast walk recovery. I have an old trojan cardio coach 5000, not sure if newer treadmills deal with these speed changes much quicker. I I have noticed I run like a hippo, while trying to be aware of how I am landing and rolling off (usually heel, but if I concentrate I can strike more flat then roll onto the balls and off to next stroke. I really should get out on the road, working from home, it's just easy to hit the treadmill or indoor trainer for my sessions. Really itching to take both the bike and run outside, but do want to master indoor training as well.
  15. Hahaha we went through yesterday and did the mountain bike trail, when we arrived I thought we had arrived at a Justin Bieber concert.......
  16. is this a separate software over and above a premium account ? great convo guys, I am learning a lot from both sides, and the dcrainmaker article was great, I follow all his stuff, but missed that one, seems promising overall.
  17. That’s great to know , I only saw CT, Neil service and prompt replies was stellar !! ordered yesterday and arrived 9.30 this morning on the dot. And followed up to make sure. Very impressed. P.s booked a full comprehensive set up on both my bikes with cyclefit Shaper, they will come through Monday , and hopefully all good to go after that.
  18. Going to contact them and book first thing tomorrow, hopefully iron out these last few technical hiccups .may need new road pedals first, as I put mtb pedals on mine, the spd cleat didn't hold well to the roadshoe. Bikefit it is ASAP
  19. Lol fair point, will be doing that on the weekends, wish I was down in the cape! Right now getting a solid ass whipping hiding on this learning curve today was just more fun and games and cleats falling off, clearly there's more to setting them up,but got my workout in the bag for the day, so theirs that
  20. appreciated, spoke to Neil now, and snapped up a Stryd V3, they will send it up here tomorrow. Rather do it once and properly, I have been going over review over review, and seems like a worthwhile investment in the long run, no pun intended lol
  21. What do you guys use for running metrics? I seem to have the indoor cycling set up. Now turning to my treadmill, I have the Garmin fenix 6x (with HRM dual) and apple watch series 5, both of which I believe I can use. However inaccurate. Looking at footpods the stryd looks like first prize, but cant find one for love or money at the moment. The wahoo tickr x came up, as well as the wahoo rpm kit, not sure if the cadence sensor I got with kickr will work. But prepared to look at either option that offerscvalue, and hopefully I can source easily. Garmin footpods seem common but the least recommended from what I can find. Do any of you use footpods, and find value in them?
  22. yet another newbie, more the merrier 42 and getting into the scene for the first time, still finding my feet. Based in JHB. The first bike is a Scott Scale 980 29 hardtail to learn on, fall on lol before deciding what and if I need anything better, more suited to what I want to ride, later on, no idea yet what to expect or what I will be drawn to. I hope to learn a lot more from you fine people, with loads more experience.
