  1. As a cyclist here from the UK, reading frantic discussions about the perils of riding in the rain and emergency last-minute gear changes are classic 😂
  2. Where do people park for this? And is it obvious where to go? 'Cape Town Stadium' is a pretty broad location description for someone not from the area 😂
  3. I got an email saying that the vets will be grouped together to make the bunches a bit bigger:
  4. I'm doing this. My first long distance race since 2019 (been doing crits since then) and I'm kakking 😂 Covid knocked my training plan for 6 weeks at the end of last year so I'm feeling woefully underprepared. My goal is to not come last!
  5. This is my first CTCC and starting in 2C. What is the congestion likely to be here, especially on the hills? I've seen a lot of talk of people weaving and stopping on the hills in the later groups. I would assume this isn't the case in the 1's and 2's, but am I correct?
  6. Wow, that is dedication 😂 I'll have a look for the old thread, thanks!
  7. This is my first CTCC and I got 2C. What are the chances for a sub-3 in that group?
  8. Has anyone received their seeding yet? Nothing for me yet 😢
  9. Road bike only, I'm afraid. Thanks for the help!
  10. Amazing, thanks. Does one just turn up at the velodrome or do you need to book time?
  11. I caught a pumping North Wester from Rooi Els to Gordon's Bay a few weeks ago which was NOT pleasant
  12. From what I've heard the full version is 60 minutes but the 20 minute effort can be multiplied by 0.95 to get a passably accurate 60 minute FTP. I'm not convinced there is anywhere around here to do the full 60 but just interested to hear if anyone has any tips
  13. Can anyone recommend a route to take around Cape Town (I'm from overseas but based in Somerset West for the summer) that would be suitable for a 60 minute FTP test? I've just ordered my first power meter, but can't think of anywhere near me that doesn't either have too much decent or intersections.
  14. I did this last week and it was brilliant. If you leave early enough, the road is very quiet. I left at 05:30 and saw almost no cars. The cars that I did see all gave me a safe passing distance. I think that route is so well known amongst drivers as being full of cyclists that they tend to be aware and expect it. Try throw in a Steenbras climb on the way back if you can!
  15. LCE Challenge done and I can confirm two things: The Avanza is easily the worst car I've ever driven. Like a late-nineties Fiat Uno without any of the luxury or performance, it's not a vehicle designed to go more than 100km/h and seemed to want to blow off the road with the slightest gust of wind. Just diabolically terrible. Mine came without a radio too, which was great for the 2+ hour journey to Langebaan. The Avanza was able to hold a Giant TCR bike in its boot without having to put the passenger seats down, thus allowing me to transport my kids too. Success! Thanks all the advice everyone!
