What I am trying to convey is that I have seen multiple sources say it wasnt just a simple freak accident, and that section there was no marshalls or even warning signs as the organiser stated, it further appears from witness statements that the taxi was speeding, it just feels like they are not conveying the full story to save face. Accident v Negligence is a very thin line sometimes.

True I saw his statement, but what else would he say he has a brand to protect. Ive seen multiple posts from supposed witnesses who says the incident was not that innocent.

It feels like they are trying to cover their asses here, that section was poorly marshalled, if at all. An with due respect why was the taxi so close to them in the first place, even with the roadworks it could have comfortably given the rider a wide berth.

Agree that a 650b setup on gravel bike would be about as confortamble as you would get, I ran 45c as low as possible and my hands are wrecked, everything after about 100km was k@k, but I fully agree with previous hubbers comment: "Cannot comment on the route here but what I would say that if a race is specifically marketed as a gravel race there is some onus on the route planner / organiser to make sure the route is as gravel friendly as possible. If not then warn people and do that "choose your weapon" marketing blurb (and maybe not use it as national gravel champs?) If you enter a traditional mtb race (like 36One or Trans Baviaans?) on your gravel bike then the risk is on you and then there is no point complaining afterwards."

Yeah I also got confirmation a head on collision, around 110km mark after the KOM. If I recall it was a section of roadworks. Generally there was alot of marshalls and officials, but imho vehicular traffic could be better regulated, had a number of bakkies/trucks moer past me at massive speed, then you cant see anything in the dust, to be frankly honest glad I got it done, but will be a once off. The route is very average at most not much to look at, and bloody pricey if you include all the logistics etc.

Thanks ended up prepping the Momsen so going for a fast effort, done a few 100 millers with it before where mostly mtb rode so rate with what I heard almost ideal for this event as it's quite mild

Hey hubbers Got a late entry to r2s, my bike options are Momsen R355 and Trek Top Fuel. Not sure of current route conditions but the Momsen feels like ideal bike for this race, I have it on a pair 45c so should be able to cope with most obstacles. Thoughts for a newbie to race and route?

Hey Hubbers Ive been mulling in my head throwing my two bikes together. I have a Momsen R355 (https://momsenbikes.com/2020-archive/r355-one/) and Giant Anthem Advanced 1 27.5 (https://99spokes.com/en/bikes/giant/2016/anthem-advanced-27.5-1), the idea came about after I chucked the Giant Carbon wheelset across to great effect, so now my thoughts are going to the 100mm Fox Factory 32 Fork, would it even be be compatible with the Momsen Frame? Ive been playing around with the idea of riding Sani2C on my gravel, but have been advised not ideal so wondering if I throw the fork across that I might get sort of best of both worlds.

Anything at Tranquilitas self or the surrounds, from their website it looks like they have 6-7 trails of which we can take on 3-4. So anything in the area even district gravel road options would be nice?

Hey Hubbers Im partaking in the Bull ride, anyone know the route and conditions (we had alot of rain in Jozi) so not sure of PTA? In two minds between the gravel bike and mtb, so just looking for some advise on best setup.

Was leke loved the extra confort and stability through the rougher stuff, although was running a heavy profile 2.3 spez purgatory tire, I think with more XC orientated 2.2 it will fly.

Final product Sprocket and Jack sorted me with the hub end plugs. Taking it out tomorrow for a first spin. Remarkably was able to still comfortably get the 2.3 tires in.

Thanks my thought process exactly, and it appear the frame can even push 2.2 for extra cushion. In the pic I had 2.35 on and other than front rubbing on the fender there was leke space in the fork. Have a sleeker profile 2.25 I want to throw on for a test having end caps being made today

Considering throwing my Giant Anthems 650B carbon wheels on my Momsen. Whats your thoughts on running 650B on a gravel bike setup - pros/cons? One thing it does make the bike look bit*%ching.
