  1. Yea I ride motorcycles so this is the way I set my bikes up ?
  2. You need a gravel bike for the roads in SA cause they so *** ???? honestly I got one because I like to throw some off-road sections into my road rides … it’s kinda grown on me and I find my self more and more on the dirt, will probably buy a mtb soon though.
  3. Evo bikes should have if you don’t come right. also to check the pitch if you don’t have the little pitch checkers you can try (don’t force ) thread a nut on it. standard thread is 1.75 normally and I found the axles I was after where 1.5 pitch. I actually made an axel ( it was during the heat of the no parts situation and I had to ride ).
  4. Ahhh yes my mistake that is the TI version.
  5. I think a curve, a Kevin is like 50k for a frame only .. ????
  6. I like this idea but I assumed his frames would be out of my price range ? I’ll have to get in touch with him and see what he says ! thanks ????
  7. Thoughts on this frame set ? price is pretty decent at just over 12k shipping is on the house...so that’s a plus but has anyone got experience dealing with Merlin cycles I’m sure loads of people have bought from them. what am I in for customs wise ? I see conflicting discussions on whether or not there is a duty on “bicycle components “ lakker eve
  8. So where’s Wade ? ???? what an episode of days of our lives ... tbh the ending was abit slack was hoping for more of a punchie ending
  9. Okay so iv got some of the early stage stuff on my phone of where my thought process was going. shirts will be 165 GSM combed cotton price point will most likely be around R250 and then here are some ideas of prints. this may be an absolute *** idea and I’m cool with that in that case I’ll just make my self a few but yea keen to hear from you guys.
  10. Hi to all asking for designs etc I will get to posting an idea of what they will be when I get back from work tonight or tomorrow morning if the evening runs away with me. the shirts will be leisure wear and not riding kit there’s no way I could come close to the price point of already well established brands. Price estimates, design ideas and other details I’ll get to posting here once I’m on my PC at home later. appreciate it.
  11. Cotton T + rad cycling related prints ? hey everyone. I’m wanting to make some t shirts with some cool cycling motifs printed on very modern very clean and simple I’d buy the shirt (proper not some China kaka that feels like road rash) and then I’d do the screen printing. Would anyone be interested? They would probably be more gravel oriented as that’s the riding I like to do. I have a few designs, but they would feature things like. Vectors of gravel bikes, drop bars , etc let me know your thoughts ?
  12. I’m keen on the cross cape ????
  13. Wow, thanks to all that have added some input here this morning ! @FrancoisdeVille cool to hear from someone who did it for a while the UK wouldhave been my 1st stop but with brexit it’s made things a little more challenging for an EU passport holder. I’m pretty good with tools etc always been a maker and a repair guy from bikes to cars you name it. Obviously there are some tricks of the trade that I’d like to pic up before embarking on this journey. there arnt any big box stores as such where I stay but some smaller shops some of which are really awesome I do all my builds and repairs on my own with the advice of YouTube and this forum. But I’ll definitely visit one or two of the shops and ask if they would be open to an appy pulling in to learn I’m massively eager so I hope this would work in my advantage. @madmarc love the way you put that post together “grandpa fritz “ ???? absolutely the commuter market is huge evey time I have been that side I have noticed this as here other than a few not many use bikes to commute. With it being regulated and all that good 1st world stuff this is why I’m thinking if I can provide some experience on my cv as well as an internationally recognised qualification it may help me out a lot when finding that job. it’s very much been a dream of mine for ages iv just always been tied up with a job that just paid the bills but wasn’t very for filling it’s a big jump in life but I guess you never know if you don’t try. worst case I’ll have to pack shelves in a super Market till I can land that dream bike job ???? (will Probs still make more than my 6 day a week job paid here) ???? so to recap. 1) I should get some form of internationally recognised qualification. (Even though it won’t be the be all and end all but may make getting in the door just that little bit more simple ) 2) gain some floor/junior mechanical experience whilst I have the time 3) be prepared to pack shelves as this may take a while to get right???? do you guys think having a record of bikes that I have built for my self helps ?
  14. Thanks for the links. I assume the torque zone training centre is the same as the cytech in the uk just based in sa. I suppose reaching out to torque zone would be one of my 1st ports of call. And then potentially level up to the UCI training once the ball is rolling as the costs are quite intense. would trying to get my foot in at a LBS be an advantage to you think ? Even if it’s just helping out odd days of the week to gain some time on a CV ? thanks for the response @madmarc
  15. I will be visiting a few places to start off. Spain Germany and Greece. (Greece is just a paperwork trip ) the idea is to land up in Spain and go from there however if I can get something into motion from this side I will go to where the job is as long as it’s in the euro zone.
  16. Hey guys and girls ! so after all this covid nonsense and loosing my job due to it. Bummer ... I am an EU citizen and I have a unprecedented love for bicycles and building bikes etc ... pretty much anything to do with a bicycle ???? iv built a good few bikes helped some mates out etc I however have no formal training in the industry. my partner and my self are leaving to Europe at the start of next year in search of greener pastures and to start our life together and make a future. The dream would be to work in the bicycle industry maybe even start off with an internship or something along those lines. (follow your passion and never work a day in your life ) but how do I go about this ? What can I do whilst I’m still here to better my chances of employment? are the mechanics courses worth the money ? Do they help or is it just a pice of paper that nobody really cares about? Any pointers, advice, where to look ? Who to contact ? Contacts will be massively appreciated! willing to smuggle parts in to SA for you all one day ???????? cheers happy Sunday and hope you all had a lakker morning ride !
  17. Hey ! I have sent them an email last week but no response yet I will DM yoh now if you can ping me those details I’d appreciate it massively ! And then I’ll call them tomorrow and get this sorted by next week **** sorry to hear about the hit and run ! Bloody bastards ! Blow my mind how some people think !!!! Glad you where able to walk away from it ! regards stavros
  18. Right ! So thanks again for all the input ! I have found this trek single track for sale in rose bank cpt and I have been I contact with the seller. he wants 500 bux for it. He says it needs a new rear wheel breaks a service and a chain. I’ll post a pic below seems like decent bike with a little bit of cool factor to it (I know not that important) what do you guys think ? Does anyone have some old parts laying around that we can use on this bike ? I’ll also be buying him some safety gear.
  19. I have sent them an email ! Let’s see what they can come up with !
  20. Hi all sorry for the late response wasn’t on the hub last night had that covid vac and felt abit off ???? @Slowbee & @DIPSLICK I like the sound of the “old hub” I definitely wasn’t around for those days or though I have met some absolute LEGENDS on here who have helped me out like they have known me for years ! @Koos Likkewaan a thought I did have of making a bike look less than it is just simply due to how many desperate people there are in his neighbourhood I mean his previous bike I would say was worth maybe 200 rand and it was liberated after a few months. id like him to have something that can at least get him to work and back for a good while. Right now we have about 1500 bux in the kitty to put towards a ride for him (I know not much but it’s a start ) honestly I was thinking a decent 26er that runs well his commute to work does not really involve any big climbs and is relatively flat so even a old drive train would suit as long as it works well. I just want to also thank you guys for coming forward and offering help etc without even knowing me or him. he’s a good dude young but stuck in the vicious cycle of poverty unfortunately. And I think to have his wheels back would be quite a large victory for him. im going to look on FB market place now when I get to work and I’ll post a few links here see what we can do ! many blessings to you all! SK
  21. Hey he is in cpt southern suburbs. I’m currently in knysna for the foreseeable future. A friend of mine will handle the logistical stuff down there. I’m trying to find the bike. @DonatelloOnPinarello as good at that sounds his previous bike wasn’t even worth 500 rand and it was stolen. So a 5@ bike won’t last all that long I’m afraid.
  22. He is definitely around a medium
  23. Hey mtb would be 1st option as where he stays the roads are quite dirty and full of items that will definitely cause a puncture on a road bike. but literally anything will work i will set it up for him so that he can avoid punctures the best he can. thank you for your response.
  24. Hi gents ! I’m embarking on an act of kindness. a guy I worked with a while back has had his commuter bike stolen from him and is now back to walking to work. He is an absolute legend and a hard worker that just can’t seem to catch a break. im looking for any old bike he’s not super tall so like a medium Ish bike would work. me and a mate are happy to put some cash forward to get him a bike it would be in the cpt area . let me know myself and especially Patric Will appreciate it
