  1. So I have a bit of a question and looking for some guidance from the more experienced cyclists out there. Not sure if this has been raised before... Cycle Events hosts quiet a number of cycling events all around the country. I recently signed up and did my first long ride over the weekend. A 60km road race. It was good and I really enjoyed it. In this race there was quiet a number of places where the road was straight and flat and you could go for it. At one point I was thinking, it would be nice to have those bars used on tri bikes or so called aero bars. Where the elbows could rest and give the shoulders a bit of a breather. So my question: for these type of races/timed events, is it legal or allowed, to use these tri bars on a road bike? I am not looking to become a professional cyclist, just to take part in some of these events from time to time.
  2. Just to add, from personal experience and also from what i have seen. If the seller states on his ad "if this ad is still visible, the item is still available" Yet, you will get the question that comes up as "is it available" and then have the long conversation about the item, sometimes a sale and sometime nothing comes out of it. We can be as courteous as much as possible, but you do get the odd special buyer somewhere. Just saying
  3. I'm thinking about taking some time away from work, more like *cough*cough*sniff*sniff, so i can run away for a day or so
  4. So, the weekends is turning out to be a nightmare with volume of people and spring on the way. Has anyone been out there during the weekdays? I would assume, it will be much peaceful. **my one and only attempt was on a Sunday, but i got there early, like about 7:30. which was still ok. I don't know what the place looks like at 10 or 12 or maybe 3pm***
  5. For a moment, i though the runners were running faster than this ch*p cyclist. I was thinking how is it possible for a runner to overtake a cyclist?? But as said, they were running towards him, and agree, he should have moved aside a bit. I was also considering going to the cradle yesterday, but decided to cycle in my neighbourhood. My neighbourhood also has a increase of walkers and runners. They getting out now with the warmer weather. I move over cos i can see, i am moving much faster than them. It is also courteous. I agree with most here, name and shame, post the video, if there is one.
  6. Lol, I divorced mine for other reasons. But now the freedom to do anything at anytime ????????????????
  7. Right, I'm gonna go club tonite. Will tell the DJ to play one Bee Gees tune, Staying Alive ????????????

  9. The cleats did not come in the post yet. Ordered a set and was hoping they get delivered with the shoes. Got a bit excited seeing the new shoes. Had to try them on and walk.
  10. I just got my first pair of road cycling shoes, strapped them on and they fit very nice. Underneat the shoes, it is reinforced with carbon. As soon as i walked onto the tiles, I almost slipped and fell. It has very small rubber strips at the back and front of the shoe. How do you guys walk with these shoes? You can see this is a newbie asking for help Maybe i need to fit the cleats on this thing and then walk with it
  11. Thanks Ouzo and Mr Dampf I see you guys are right, i googled google after i asked the question. Looks like i need a spare plate. Just got a bike carrier also. Didnt expect to have an additional item to get. Thank you Nestus for asking this question
  12. Quick question. would this additional number plate be for bike carriers, where the wheels sit in the carrier, hooked to a towbar, like a Thule one OR the bikes that hang from a carrier, like a boot carrier, tied down with ropes and clips?
  13. lol, well, I am one of those newbies, started cycling for a couple months now. This weekend was my first trip out to cradle. Had no idea where to go. I parked on the roadside, outside Bidon and as i was preparing, I greeted the people around me, didn't get much of even a Hello. Completely ignored. I didnt know which way to go, so the first cyclist that went past me I followed him. Only later to realise i was going in a clockwise direction. Good thing i did as there was not many people going in this direction. But I did come across those support vehicles following cyclists on the other side of the road. Didnt affect me much. After an hour, bum started getting sore. Reading on another post, could be the seat...i think its my weight tho With it being my first trip out there, I kinda enjoyed it. Maybe cos I went in the opposite direction of everyone else. Question to ask, if not Cradle, were would be another spot to go to?
  14. Lol, this sounds like me, i also started out about 3 months back. My first ride i didnt even do 2 kms. Quads burnt like hell, breathing was through the roof. But that is more due my self inflicted smoking. Smokers lungs. I'm 45, i use the Samsung watch heart rate monitor, I have Samsung Health loaded on my phone so i could review my ride after. My heartbeat went up to 180bpm -185bpm at some stages. Had to stop and bring it down again. On my 2nd ride, i did about 5kms, on high gear, very slow pace. Each day, i kept it at this 5km mark, just to get used to it. I cycled in my neighborhood. Since then, the cycling has gotten better as the days went by. For my longer rides on the weekends, I had a few days break before going out. rest is also needed, don't push every day. The uphill's still get me, but it is getting easier. Just keep at it and give the body some rest before going out again. One of my buddies recommended i take some supplements also, like Cramp Ease and Slow Mag. Not sure if this is also recommended by the forum here. Maybe i should start a topic on this and see what the bigger audience says.. My 2 cents worth....
  15. Adding onto what ChrisF said.... I am also a noob and didnt know much. Started cycling about a month now. So I went that route and bought a makro raleigh. Come with what is shown as, all the bells and whistles. MTB, brake disks, front shocks, shimano gears etc etc. The price of the bike is one thing, the accessories that I ended up getting , soon added up. Clothing, Pants Gel seat (got a big bum, needed some cushioning ) spare tubes Slick tyres Even though it is my first bike, the raleigh feels like a decent first bike. No issues so far. (Touch wood) I've ridden it in my suburb on the roads. After all this, then I picked up on this website . Read up on some chats on what's good and not. Now I feel like I bought a mtb for road use. I should have bought a road bike instead. Thats when I changed the tyres from mtb tyres to slick tyres. When going through cycle labs website, much later on, they have this marvel cadent roadbike for 5999 which is also one of the Zero to Hero starter deals. Not sure if you saw this as yet? Theres even a video clip by Andrew McLean promoting the deal. Theres lot of deals out there, find one and start with that, it will definitely grow from there. Good luck dude
