  1. Yes -thank you. Please dm and I will make arrangements to pick it up.
  2. Hi guys and girls, I also lost a black Endura jacket somewhere on route if anyone by chance have picked it up. Please send me a dm.
  3. I also did this last year. It's one of those events that stay with you long after the ride. I understand that there are very few participants this year. While it may not appeal to the masses, it would be a real pity if more endurance riders don't start participating. This is very much in the same sort of endurance event category as Baviaans, 36One, Cullinan2Tonteldoos etc. It's a hard race, make no mistake, but having done all sorts of events over the years, this one still remains special to me. You won't be disappointed that you've done this.
  4. Not the lightest but good all round protection. Saved my head in a bike-jacking attempt and I replaced it with the same model.
  5. Does a 42,1 SAS index starting in Group A4 sound about right?
  6. Thanks The Crow. Just the sort of info I'm looking for. I've heard the same comments about the Turner and definitely think it's worth having a decent look at it.
  7. I'm looking to buy a XC, marathon bike that will also be a good all rounder. I do the occasional short races/rides but prefer longer stage races and trail riding. All the bikes mentioned got good reviews, and except for the BMC, the others are frame plus build what your heart desires. The problem is none of the bikes (again except for the BMC) is available to take for a test ride. I don't want to spend a crap load of money only to find out I bought the wrong bike. I'd really appreciate any comments from anyone who actually own/rode any of the bikes..... I'm not a lightweight at 100kg and about 1,9....Build will most likely be 2x10 XO with Rockshox SID 100mm (the Yeti is 120mm)...
  8. I decided to go to Van Gaalens for a late morning ride. I was having a great time, really giving it a go on the single track and on my way back next to the river. Next moment I came around a corner at speed to find a bunch of 'idiots' having a 'tea party' and a chat in the middle of the trail. I started to brake and swerved out only to have my handlebar get caught in the reeds and the bike ripped out from under me. Needless to say I went over the bars and ended up with a few scratches and bruises. My just-serviced bike ended up with a broken rear hangar, and a few other broken bits and pieces. I was livid! The only response from this bunch was "Are u ok?". No apologies for standing in the middle of the trail or anything like that.... i just don't understand why you cannot move off the trial if you are not riding it, to make way for other who are. it's just common sense and common decency. Now I have to fork out to repair my bike because others aren't thinking for themselves. if you are not riding -MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!
  9. I'll definitely be there (being one of the unfortunate ones attacked in the Irene area). if safety is important to you make an effort to join the ride, especially the cycling clubs/groups that usually cycles around there e.g. Fritz Pienaar, Cyclelab etc. Is someone co-ordinating this with the clubs and their club rides for that morning?
  10. Thanks The Drongo - will give it a try!
  11. Hi The Drongo - 8 positive clicks and about 10% sag front and rear.
  12. My full suspension recently went in for its first service. When I took it out for a ride afterwards I noticed that the rear wheel was lifting quite a lot when I stand up going over bumps on an even or downhill slope, down rocky slopes and over bumpy terrain. I first thought the fork pressure was too weak and that it may be the cause. The pressure was a bit on the low side and I pumped it to 150psi (positive) and 135psi (negative). I weigh about 98kg. The fork now feels more responsive (not so soft) but I still get a lot of rear wheel lift even with my weight behind the saddle. I had a few close encounters of the nasty kind at Groenkloof because the front end would just absorp all the momentum and lift the rear quite high resulting in me going forward over the handlebars. Any ideas I can try? The shop who originally sold me the bike did a near perfect set-up for me when new. (Yes, phoned the shop-closed for the long weekend...) Fork is a Rockshox Revelation Race. The shock is a Fox Float 23RP at 220psi.
  13. Part of my usual ride close to home takes me on a gravel road underneath electric overhead powerlines. The first time I rode there I experienced a very definite electric shock between my thighs and the saddle. I'm not talking about a minor static electricity sort of shock and it does not happen only once - it happens on every turn of the crank when I am close to or underneath the cables. Since then I have experienced it every single time, the last time was really not pleasant -I almost lost control of the bike because both my inner thighs and both hands were shocked similtaneously. It was a matter of "eina %$@" and then trying to gain control of the bike again. Now when I ride close to or underneath the cables I ride with my legs wide open like a ....... to try and avoid being shocked. Anyone else experienced this?
  14. Thought I will give some feedback. I tested both bikes and to me they had a different feel - ok it wasn't tested under the exact same conditions. I was leaning towards the Morewood but very quickly decided to go for the Yeti ASR 5 after riding one. I 've had it for about 6 weeks now. It is a stunning bike! It climbs very well but is simply superb on technical downhill or any downhill for that matter. I was worried that 5 inches will result in too "soft" a ride but the current setup which is quite firm is perfect for my 100kgs. It just goes through and over almost anything - singletrack, rocks, technical ascents...you name it. It is simply miles better and overall faster than my old Specialized hardtail . Thanks for all the opinions!
  15. Rode there on Saturday...some of the singletrack was paved. I supposed it makes it a bit more rideable but not as fun.
