  1. Really appreciate the the time you took to add these comments - thanks! As mentioned in my original post - nothing personal and we know (and would love) to get the pricing down to a level where we can sell double the volume we are doing at the moment (we would be stupid not to???) - the current low exchange rates are certainly helping and we will be launching a great promotion soon on DOGMA frames to pass this on to consumers. In adition I think our complete bike packages are already very well priced. We realise a lot of distributors have messed up in the past and the 'price fixing' thing did not help (which for the record, we were not part of in any way, shape or form) but it is ironic that, with public support, solid disitributors are in a position to provide stock to clients through bike stores at really solid prices (we think even better than online guys generally) - the key is volumes - when you start buying in bulk you can get prices down - being part of the ASG group has helped us do that. We like the current supplier landscape mix challenge (online, LBS, CWC, CRC, etc.) - we think it keeps everybody honest but we will do everything in our power to make sure our supply channels are at least considered or part of the equation (and people are comparing 'apples with apples') when consumers are looking for Rudy, SIDI, Pinarello, etc. (our brands). We need to meet certain price and service expectations to do that and will continue to work hard to achieve this objective - we are not going anywhere! By the way just got some feedback from the Team Medscheme guys that started using their new DOGMA bikes during December - Check out Malcolm Lange's Twitter feed. Regards ag Ps. we miss you on those early morning rides in Pretoria!!
  2. Thank Christie! On your comments: 1. Appreciate it - always a tough one to post something or not - especially on the hub as it seems if you are a distributor half the hub communiy hate you by default and turn anything you say into an attack on guys selling online 2. Agreed! Rates are really good (big positive move in last 6 months or so!) and we are planning to run a great 'New Years' promotion on Pinarello DOGMA frames in the next 2 weeks - watch this space!! 3. Personally I am with you on that although we've had some really good feedback on the new colour schemes as well...I guess everyone is different ag
  3. I am not going to win this one! Actyum is a 2009 helmet and there was no extra lenses in their promo - and we have been doing this for almost a year (check our ads going back more than 12 months). CWC copied the concept as a Xmas promotion. Anyways, as I mentioned before - we do not want to criticise CWC - they do what they have to. Just wanted to make the point that we are aware of many guys looking at price only and we understand that and are doing our best to meet and exceed those requirements! Remember where this started - an accusation that ASG was expensive - I wanted to make the point that we're not! I'll leave it at that.
  4. Ok, let me take the bait (possibly against my better judgment): We do not sell direct (only through dealers) but here is an example on the Rydon model you are refering to - we offer it as a package through our dealers (as mentioned in one of my posts this is one way to give our clients better value even if it is sometimes difficult to match online pricing on an individual item - for countless possible reasons) - see ad under my post for more details. I'll compare our price (through our dealers) with CWC pricing as it is on their web site today? Rydon with photo clear lenses (CWC price: R1599) Extra set of smoke lenses (nice ad on for the car - photo lenses react with UV and will not transition in your car which makes the extra lenses a nice ad-on) - (CWC price: R350) Rudy Project Zuma helmet (CWC price: R800) Package: CWC: R2749 ASG promotion price (through our dealers: R2300 to R2500 depending on how well you negotiate at your LBS ) Some of our dealers will even ship this to you FOC! Believe me to do this (even get close to online pricing) is not easy considering we are the so-called and much hated 'middle men' On an individual Rydon I guess you will have to negotiate with the store in question knowing what the package sells for. The new SWIFT model with photo clear lenses is an unblievable deal - it has a great frame and the exact same lenses as the Rydon (we bought over 5000 of them to get the price to a great level) - at R1290 incl at anyone of our dealers I think you will be hard-pressed to find a better deal (anywhere!!).
  5. the debate about distributors / dealers / online stores is an extremely complex one at best - but from a consumer point of view quite simple: the guy with the best pricing wins! We understand this and that was the basis for my original posting. Hope we can make you feel differently over time about ASG.
  6. Wow - not sure where you get your facts from? Sometimes it is better to say nothing and perhaps this is one of those times. Sorry you feel so upset - I honestly think it is for all the wrong reasons but let's leave it at that.
  7. Perhaps you didn't read what I posted or did not understand it (read it again - slowly) - this is our whole 'mission' - to provide great products at great prices (equal or better than online pricing) - believe me, this is only possible when buying in bulk and committing to huge orders in advance (which ASG is risking every year for 4 years in a row now) - we have countless examples of where we did this (Rudy SWIFT with Photochromic - R1290, New SIDI SDS shoes - R1290, Pinarello FP2 with Shimano 105 R25k inclusive, etc.) - all this through our dealers! I think your comments are a little unfair and one-sided but thanks for the input anyway.
  8. Thanks for these comments (and for Gerhard's original comment). I post this reply hesitantly because we certainly don't want to start a debate that we cannot finish (and where I cannot possibly list all the factors that play a role) but I certainly want to respond to the comment that ‘South Africa (ASG) is the most expensive in the world’. We take these comments very seriously and take note! For the record - it is our (ASG's) ongoing mission to get pricing on all our brands (AND SOLD THROUGH OUR DEALERS - Bike Stores) down to levels that compete with ‘legitimate’ and ‘reasonable’ online pricing and we will continue to do so (but it is not always as easy or as simple as you may think). We are continuously negotiating better deals with our suppliers and by buying in bulk get effective costs down. As the exchange rate improves and we buy new stock at better rates this certainly helps. On many of our Rudy Project eyewear models (example new SWIFT with photochromic clear lenses- R1290, SIDI shoe models (including new SDS range) - R1290, Pinarello FP2 Carbon with Shimano 105 - R25k inclusive, etc.) we think the RRP is even less than what you can find anywhere online (when comparing 'apples with apples'). To achieve this objective without selling directly or online (and cutting out dealer margin) is something we are really proud off. There are however some reasons (or considerations) why a comparison like the one Gerhard did, does not tell the full story – not criticism, he simply listed some pricing that anyone can find online by typing in ‘Pinarello DOGMA price’ using GOOGLE (and I say this knowing that each client has the right to buy items where and how they want): Our pricing is set on a 6-monthly basis based on purchase cost and ruling exchange rates at the time (we are required to keep adequate stock which means we sometimes lose out on positive exchange rate swings after purchases were made (this was the case in the last 12 months and especially last 2 months) - obviously the reverse is also true which may result in SA being classified as 'cheaper' than the rest of the world 12 months from now?. The upside is that we keep adequate stock (at our risk) on all our brands and can supply most models/sizes/colours immediately (waiting period from Italy is now 3-4 months on a DOGMA!). From our feedback it would seems that most of our stores in SA sell DOGMA frame kits for approx R42k to R45k (it is however true that RRP for a DOGMA frame is R50k incl VAT based on prescribed RRP rates from Italy – some international distributors ignore this and sell directly via online stores). Considering shipping, VAT, duties (complete bikes only), holidays in Italy , I think we are not too far off and you should see another adjustment in the new year if the Rand holds its current strong levels against the EURO. Keep in mind that 12 months ago the same online prices quoted may have sounded expensive at more than R10 to the EURO (R8.90 at the moment). We also have ongoing promotions to try and offer these bikes (through our dealers!) at better value than you can find online - check out some of the 'best of Italy' package deals currently on offer by ASG (advertised extensively in most SA cycling magazines). You may be surprised... I think our clients got some great deals through their bike stores! We are committed to keep selling through our dealers and not direct to the public - this is a decision we made some time ago because we believe it is critical to provide solid service, backup, warranty support, etc through our selected dealer base for the Pinarello brand (something we cannot do from our head office and that no ‘online’ trader located overseas can do). The downside of this decision is that you will always find some guys selling products online from overseas at really small margins because they don’t keep stock and then create the impression that everyone else is expensive. It is easy for them considering they have no upfront stock investment, no insurance, stock holding, storage, advertising and marketing costs, sponsorship costs, etc etc) and order as required (when they get orders online). In the end, anyone is free to buy whatever they want and wherever they want – consumers today are much more informed (especially when buying Pinarello bikes J) - we understand this and are working hard to get all your business by offering competitive prices, warranty support, stock availability, good service, etc. In the end price is a key consideration - our business has grown beyond our wildest dreams in the last 4 years and we would like to think that offering good value and service to our client base was key in achieving these results.
  9. Pinarello will be the first company in the world to fit the DOGMA with new Campagnola electronic. We just received some more info on that - new Spanish pro team 'MOVISTAR' will be first to use it - we have just ordered the first replica frames for delivery March / April...we'll post more info soon for those that are interested.
  10. Don't want to get into huge debate here but it is not that we 'do not sit around the same fire' - we have actually visited Chris 3 times and we have tried to supply them in the past through the official channels. Chris does what he does and that's his business - good luck to him (our official view). I agree it is great from a consumer point of view to get great products at great prices and that's the role he fills when he runs these ‘specials’ - especially in times like these when you have periods where the exchange rate is really good and you can capitalise on that (regretfully at the expense of distributors that have sometimes bought stock at higher rates – but that is the new online challenge J). From a consumer point of view, pricing is massively important and we understand that - we also understand that we have to meet the challenge guys like Chris (and other online vendors) is setting if we want to continue the business success we have had in the last 4 years. It is just a little annoying (FROM A BUSINESS TO BUSINESS POINT OF VIEW) when we spend serious money on rebuilding and developing brands in SA (Pinarello, Rudy, SIDI, etc.) - all brands that were badly neglected in the past and then someone jumps in when the demand / awareness has been created with some seriously discounted rates (this then makes our dealers look like they were massively expensive and were ripping off clients!!). We also do not agree with the 'distributor badmouthing and accusations' that generally underpins their communications to the public (but that is our view) - I think they can be successful without having to do that. For the record (and I will reply to another posting on this topic soon) - it is our ASG mission to continue to negotiate great bulk deals in order to supply quality products (through our growing network of dealers) at pricing that is competitive with any realistic online offers you might see out there. We have launched some promotions (through our dealers) on Pinarello, SIDI and Rudy Project that I am convinced no online vendor will ever be able to beat - feel free to test us on this next time you need SIDI, RUDY PROJECT, PINARELLO, SAN MARCO, FTECH, etc.) – you may be surprised.

  12. Pinarello is now the proud sponsor of Giro d’Italia!! Pinarello becomes Official Sponsor of the sports event by signing a 3-year contract (and will be Rcs Sport partner at all 2011 bicycle events), and dedicates one bike – black and pink, of course – to the event. At the Turin theatre a preview of the Official 2010 Tou...r of Italy Bicycle will be presented, the “Giro d’Italia special edition” Dogma bike, in black, as a due homage to Giovanni “Nani” Pinarello’s Black Jersey, with minor details in pink, the classic Tour colour. The story of the Treviso company is closely linked to the Tour of Italy: the great fortune of Pinarello came about in 1952 when Giovanni had to hand over to the emerging Pasqualino Fornara during the famous race. His handover was indemnified by the Bottecchia sport club with 100,000 Lire, used by Giovanni to open his first store in Treviso. - Pinarello Press Office http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs458.ash2/73127_161342920563031_133389583358365_362999_6678195_n.jpg
  13. Anyone visiting the 94.7 Expo will be able to view the new Pinarello MTB range as well as the new road frames (Quattro and 2011 Paris) at the ASG Sport Solutions stands. Regards ASG
  14. Hi All, these frames back in stock now after the first batch sold out - all colours! Can still combine these with free helmet and smoke lenses deal - more info on our website: www.asgsport.co.za Regards ASG
  15. All good to go now - all SDS shoes (verona package) came in on Friday...
  16. Sorry for the late reply...90% of all the bikes now at our warehouse - 2 shipments. All Road bikes and all MTB frame kits in stock now as well - last few complete MTB's still on its way (another 10-15 days max we hope)!
  17. The much ('too much' ?) talked about R140k bike was with MOST Lighweight Clinchers (R35k difference in price to the MOST Claw Carbon wheels!!). In addition this promo sells at a 'promo price' / discount (most of the accesories are effectively free of charge) which makes up the balance...hope that makes more sense now? Outof interest - the RRP on a DOGMA frame is R43500k excl VAT. (international RRP is $5500 excl VAT and I guess shipping). The pricing on all these promos are very competitive in our view and represents huge added value aimed at the Xmas season (we brought in 2 containers of bikes to get to these price points) - although it still is a lot of cash

  21. 22. Interesting you should say that (and I have always been a sceptic as far as this goes - for some mags I agree with you 100%) - we actually did not get the same accolade from Bicycling SA or any other SA cycling magazine we advertise in for that matter! I guess if we wanted to "buy" this award through advertising spend then we should be a little peed off...because did do a lot of marketing but to their credit the guys dealing with advertising and the guys doing reviews and editorial content seem to keep thngs separated. We do a lot of advertising - keep in mind we have 7 different brands with multiple product lines so unfortunately keeping the world informed on these is a pricy exercise. The "Bike of the Year" accolades were won in USA and Italy for 4 years straight. There is a video by the editor of Bicycling USA explaining why DOGMA won there...if you are interested have a look on our website: www.asgsport.co.za - specific link: http://www.asgsports.co.za/Dogma%20Bicycling.html ASG
  23. Thanks for the feedback - that is what I like about the hub - we can get honest responses from end users! We are fully aware that we do not have a lot of products to compete in the lower price bracket (almost all our brands are aimed at the higher end of the market) and have recently launched a new frame called the SWIFT - it retails for R1290 and has the same lenses as the Rydon photo clear (ImpactX lenses that transition) but to make this happen we had to order several thousand at a time, negotiate a huge discount with the Italians and ask them to make some frames that are available only in SA (to avoid those grey importers from laying there hands on it after a few months) - the end result was unbelievable - we can not get enough of these...BUT THE GOOD NEWS - they can also be scripted - both with an insert solution (typically less than R1000) or as direct in frame - more expensive depending on the kind of lenses you do. Bernhard at our office can help you out - send him this link on bernhard@asgworld.co.za and I'll make sure he helps you out. Check out the SWIFT frames on our website: www.asgsport.co.za under the promotions and ads section: http://www.asgsport.co.za/PROMOS/MAG_FP4.jpg Thanks again for the feedback!
  24. Appreciate the feedback. Rudy is not cheap - we will be the first to admit it. We are convinced however that they offer something extra - it is philosophy that we have had to get used to by the Italian owners - Rudy Barbazza has stated on many occasions that "he does not want to be the biggest, only the best". As a distributor we sometimes wish they will move production to China and make simpler moulds and do less research and testing because we are competing with much bigger and stronger brands who's unit costs are a lot lower than ours. Anyway, Bernhard is better equiped to discuss these issues but have a look at our website on the ImpactRX section (www.asgsport.co.za and follow links to Rudy Project or go direct www.rudyproject.co.za) - these sport scripts from Rudy is made by Shamir Optics in Israel (probably the best optics lab in the world) and they basically build your script around your eyes (wrap around)...I am yet to meet an unhappy customer - especially for specialist sport solutions. Obviously the ImpactX lenses are also a lot more expensive than PC lenses which ads to the cost. I can honestly tell you our margins on RX solutions are very small - we started the program more from a "credibility" point of view than anything else. Our main business is normal unscripted eyewear. On a completely different note - I had lasic surgery done on my eyes - better than 20/20 vision now - can highly recommend looking into this! Have you considered this option? Good luck! ASG
  25. To be honest we messed around with several slogans - we had the "lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place...how about 4 times thing" with the Dogma and playing on the fact that Pinarello has won "Bicycling road bike of the year" for 4 years running - it worked really well and we wanted something strong on the new MTB as well - we thought of "first 2 wheel 4x4"??? Anyways, these are still concepts so will test more and perhaps change if we have to....so far general feedback is quite positive. Next time we run a campaign we'll ask the hubbers to come up with a slogan and offer a prize to the winner....now there is an idea?? Thanks for the feedback! ASG
