  1. I see entries have opened for 2023, and with some added Hot Sauce in the form of the newly built insane climb at Canetsfontein. Ek kan nie meer nie Korporaal !!!
  2. Just took delivery of my Orbea Oiz M10 TR from CWC and can not wait to hit them trails !! I was not convinced with the color from internet imagery, but boy I am VERY impressed. 120mm of travel is more than enough for a XCO wannabee like myself, and I'll have my bread buttered on both sides, as I do enjoy the longer marathon events too. Can already see myself tiptoeing around initially and pulling faces each time I hear the smallest of pebble or stone hit the frame 🙂
  3. Afternoon - it is annually on 1 July. Follow our social channels on Facebook and Instagram for offical announcement and details. Post will be made by Friday. Regards
  4. Greyton trails rock ! A reminder to all Tygergerg MTB Club members following and / or reading this thread : Access and usage of the full Greyton trail network is included in our Tygerberg membership, as are the trails in Tulbagh from this year for that matter. We are happy to be able to assist other trail networks outside of town, and in return provide our members the opportunity to explore and enjoy these trails beyond our own.
  5. It comes down for most to what bikes (brands) are available easily in your country and on any given day available on shop floors. There are some very good / strong international brands out there, which for whatever reason are not imported by various countries, and if they have in past, not in vigour. Orbea is a good example, who as someone else noted, has massive support and market share in Europe and elsewhere, but in SA, you are would hardly see them at your weekly Trailseeker event, among all the other brands we've become accustomed to in SA. As for Orbea, the company was founded towards the end of 1800's. They have won many international bike and brand competitions over the years, such as brand of the year and last year their E-bike (Rise) won the International Design and Innovation Award. They have a number of professional road and MTB team they sponsor, and one will always remember the great success of Julian Absolon when he was racing to victory after victory on the XCO World Cup circuits some years back. Excited to see the full range of their road and mtbs hit our shores - next shipment of stock said to arrive with CWC and CycleLab in the 3rd week of April.
  6. Congrats to each person who got a nat-lappie around his / her neck at the end. That was just another tough day at the Imbuko Big 5 office !! Yikes, you think by now you'd come to grips with the challenge, but one can not argue against the maths : close to 3000m elevation in a mere 70kms, is always gonna tingle a bit. Great event and kudos to the organizers - as always and happy to have spotted a number of regular faces out there ! All things go well, I'll line up in 2023 again !
  7. Yeah, the heat, especially in the last third of the event when the earlier shade of the mountains are no longer, is another challenge.
  8. okay then, entry done - one week left to start the training, one week then to taper 👀
  9. Was / Is putting this one down again for some equal amounts of fun vs suffering. Had a bit of a setback this week when I ate some dirt, but should be able to get back to proper training in a week or so from now. My youngster is also lining up this year and he is quite excited for the challenge, after listening to his dad's war stories of this event over the last few years. Still right up there for me as one of the best events on the local calendar.
  10. Many thanks - will give it a go next visit. I am not much of a runner (#understatement) but will slip into the Solomons and go for some walkie-talkie with my son.
  11. Really beautiful - how long (distance and time) would this hiking route be (if walked, not run) ? - if you would be so kind to spare me the time of having to Google for answers. And lastly, where the start point is. Thanks in advance.
  12. The Agreement reached was only for the adult memberships @ R550, for the Winelands LOCAL permit, and as such the only one available to our (TMTBC) members - this membership can be used by adults and kids alike (if you want to do the order via TMTBC). One would of course be able to buy a kids membership directly with / from Winelands Trails, which will be R400. Note this will be a membership (kids) directly with Winelands Trails and you will liaise / order directly with them herein, and arrange to collect directly from them.
  13. Afternoon - sorry if I missed some answers here already. The discounted rate (R550) we negotiated for our club members and available as a "top up" to their normal TMTBC membership, are for the Winelands LOCAL permit for 2022, which will have a normal price for non TMTBC members of R1000. https://winelandstrails.com/shop/annual-permits/adult-membership/
  14. Here are the details from Trail Forks : https://www.trailforks.com/route/tulbagh-the-bone-trail/ Have not ridden there before so can not comment on the informal settlement. Please do ensure you make you payment for day visit / pass - for ease I have attached the Snap San QR
  15. Was great meeting you this morning Chris - glad we could share some time together on the trails.
  16. I can confirm that Cyclelab are officially the new and exclusive "importers" of Orbea Bikes to South Africa. A small shipment arrived about two months back, with most of these having gone to their Gauteng base first, and a few pre-orders sales done locally by CWC. A larger shipment is expected mid December / January, and I know many folk are crossing fingers in the hope that the ETA will be met - the Oiz surely looks the part, and international reviews have been right up there. The Oiz will be available in the racier 100MM suspension option and then a slightly more forgiving, and more playful 120MM model, with dropper post as standard. Thanks in no small margin to the good folk at CWC, I managed to get my hands on a Orbea Alma Team via pre order. Upon taking delivery I was informed that this unique finished OMX Carbon frame will be the only one to come to SA ????. Ever grateful to CWC for all their effort to ensure the bike got here despite the massive challenges with production, and the obvious delays in the cycling and shipping industry. I attach an image of the bike as taken in studio after delivery by well known, Chris Hitchcock ???? Can't wait to see the full range of Oiz and other models on the floor in next year, as Orbea internationally is a very strong and respected brand, and has taken many athletes in various disciplines to podiums and world titles.....on the MTB scene, Julien Absolon was their star athlete at the time. Excited to see them back in SA, now with a strong force behind them. ps: should do a spell check before posting next time, then I do not have to do so much editing afterwards ????
  17. Afternoon hubbers, club members and non-members Please see our post on the matter in our social pages - this has been coming on for a long time and discussions herein with the landowner has been ongoing. Happy with the final outcome achieved this week. Kindest regards https://www.facebook.com/tygerbergmtb/photos/a.184604509622210/593179788764678/
  18. Thanks for the concern - been given the green light, although not a full medical assessment in the true sense of the word. That said, I made the decision on the weekend to rather opt out. It is such a stunning event, but I maintain, one of the toughest marathons I have done. After doing all the previous versions, and having a fair amount of suffering at one stage or the other during them, I foresee that I am a little undercooked in preparation, and this is not an event you want to line up for, not 100% ready. Best of luck to all of you, hopefully back for 2022 ! #goodtimes
  19. Entry is done, but yikes, Covid payed me a visit, so short on proper hilly rides, to give me any sort of confidence for what this event throws at you.....not sure if I'll make the start line. I mean, I cramped and took shots in all of my previous attempts, when I was a lot fitter, so can only imagine the whip will be biting early on this year !
  20. Fully agree - I have one bottle cage and don't do cambleback or the second bottle cage behind the post....so there is a price to pay at the longer marathon events for trying to look cool......but when the water points are stocked so well as they are at Imbuko, and even have a kind oom braaing boerewors rolls in the last bit, I am more than willing to stop and refuel. Just one thing, do not listen to that oom with the beer in hand and braai-tongs in other, when he tells you that you are almost done......unless he refers figuratively, cause then he will be accurate yes.
  21. .....even if the dates clash, there is no question as to which one I am doing......it is that good out in Wellington
  22. .....I do not know all the names of the various trails, but there was one unique change in last year's route, which was let's say....."interesting"..... It was a downhill trail, which we did in reverse.....on tired legs nogal. Eina Eina, continues little switchback-back-breakers !! Just ads to the whole event and being so so special !! Def lining up again next year, unprepared as always !
  23. I maintain, the best one day event I have done......and arguably the toughest as well. The amount of climbing is a lot, but a lot becomes hectic, when you squeeze it in over a relative "short" distance. The views and single-track make up for all of the suffering uphill though, and you'll have proper arm-pump at the end. Great vibe, water points and venue ......makes for a memorable event.
