  1. Thank you for the compliment on the rebrand.....if I tell you that for a number of days during the last few month, I spent more time on the club projects, than in my own business, would you believe me ? 😎 Hoogies and Conties will give you much joy, for sure ! The codes for applicable locks, remain the same yes. Enjoy your riding tomorrow. Kindest
  2. Morning We took the site offline yesterday afternoon after the announcement of our rebrand. The new website will offer a huge amount of improvements and additional features, and surely visually a pleasure to use. Please visit our social channels (Facebook and Instagram) for all updates herein and all matters Tygerberg. In terms of the trails, in general the trails and on higher elevation are running beautifully, for example at Hoogekraal, Contermanskloof, etc. Sections under maintenance is the Bloemendaaler @ upper Bloemendal, The Hammer @ Hoogekraal. Lower sections of Fair Cape and Klipheuwel and some other parts of network has a few mud patches that needs to be navigated. Missing Link is an absolute mess with livestock getting into that location and undone all our hard work of just a week or two back. Kind regards
  3. But that is the case with pretty much all events with the rising costs of service providers such as medics, time keepers, etc, when comparing to a couple of years ago. This is a family run event, in aid of raising funds for the local community - they only last year had their first title sponsor, but as far as I understand not coming in with huge cash as for example the big corporate events. Still getting your accommodation free, and a lot of bang for your buck for a great weekend imo.
  4. What a fantastic event !! An annual highlight for me and an event that provides mtb riding / trails of the highest caliber. Testing indeed and natural for the most, with some stunning views and LOADS of single-track. Off the bike, the festival atmosphere and socializing in the camping area among current and new friends, give this event a truly unique status. Looking forward to yet another Eselsfontein weekend.
  5. Some high quality (in more ways than one) images, compliments of race organisers, Gravel Travel - see the following links : https://we.tl/t-bqFYBCHQQ4 https://we.tl/t-S6DrbzsxUv
  6. Wow, that is very much on the heavy side, you sure it is frame only ? with the list of big hitters quoted earlier, being weight including rear shocks.
  7. Gotta love how each manufacturer, each year, announce his latest model race bike, as their lightest yet, and probably correct, as they keep on pushing the boundaries and technology and innovation improves. Orbea seems to be right up there sitting pretty in top 3, if online information is to be believed : Specialized S-Works Epic EVO – 1,659g. Giant Anthem Advanced Pro – 1,735g. Orbea Oiz OMX – 1,740g. Specialized S-Works Epic – 1,869g. Scott Spark RC HMX SL – 1,870g. Cannondale Scalpel Hi-Mod – 1,910g. Trek SuperCaliber – 1,933g. Santa Cruz Blur 4 – 1,933g.
  8. Well then....that did not quite go according to plan ...... Did the required pre race social media post, and tagged the mates, in great anticipation of what lied ahead.....only to wake up during Friday evening, with severe stomach cramps, shortly followed by the trots ! This continued into the early hours of the morning, and when the alarm went off at 4h15, and I walked into the kitchen with zero appetite, looking into the spare room where kit and bike goodies was all stacked out for ease and comfort, I already knew the inevitable. I've been on a bike before with diarhhea, and told myself never again ! To remotely consider the idea of taking on perhaps the toughest marathon event in the country, in adverse weather conditions, in an already dehydrated state, was simply looking for trouble. So, there I went on my way to Wellington, this time around as supporter as my son was super excited for his first go at the event, and I had a bunch of mates due to take part as well. Thankfully I took my running shoes along as boy did I have to run around from the viewing point to the mobile toilet (I do hope they discard of that unit permanently). Having done three (or was it now four 🤷‍♂️) Imbuko's before, I knew just how deep the okes will have to dig out there, made all the tougher with the heat and extreme wind up in the mountains, so I gave it my best at Waterpoint 2 & 4 to encourage them (which was basically shouting on / at them and making sarcastic comments about how fresh they looked 🤥). From there I made my way back to the finish area, and did my best to capture their facial expressions as they crossed the line, knowing that the ordeal is now over ....for at least another year that is. The okes all finished strong and chuckled their way to the shade, as they started sharing some war-stories of where they attacked, cramped, cursed, and considered taking short cuts back to the main road home. A quick chow from the lekker variety on offer, cold refresher in the other hand, the guys soon started talking about the next challenge......tipies !! Although I obviously did not cross the finish line, heck, I did not even cross the start line, I can surely attest to the stature this event holds among the harde-baarde for being one of the toughest, for some the toughest, marathon event out there. I applaud each person who ticked that box yesterday and had the privilege of one of the friendly ladies at the finish line, place an iced cloth on their necks, whilst handing them a finishers-medal which most surely should not be thrown in a drawer, on the contrary ! (Forgive me for the shout out to my 18 year old, the youngest competitor, who rolled home in 28th place among the men of the day) Gravel Travel just know how to host an event of this nature and they must be applauded for how smooth the event runs each year. The special vibe they manage to create leading up to the event, and on event day itself, is quite unique. If you like a challenge, and want to do something very special, you have 364 days to train for it......just look after your bowels boys and girls....no amount of Imodiums will help on that miserable morning !!
  9. Seems that thankfully, industry is moving away from pressfit BB's, and the 2023 Oiz frames now all come standard with screw in BB's, as with so many other brands doing the same. Fortunately I have not had any squeak or creak BB related issue, but know from experience on other bikes, they do provide you with these quite handsomely. Absolutely in love with the Oiz and it is a more than capable xc racing bike, as it is a marathon bike, and believe me, is a pleasure to lock-out and do your favorite coastal coffee cruise. Orbea are most surely getting stuck into the SA consumer market quickly, with a number of them seen at the recent Trailseeker as well as the Imbuko Big 5 yesterday.
  10. Not the actual profile, but image taken from route recce a few weeks ago.....
  11. Will see you okes at the start line with my 32T chainring and strapped-up lower back. What is the cut off time again ??
  12. ....did you mean to say Banhoek ? 😎
  13. Post I just made, let's get out there and support the riders, should be a good show ! https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=648079733787778&set=a.537201294875623
  14. .....a birdie whispered in my ear that certain people had the privilege of riding (or perhaps walking) some of the new sections 🤐
  15. Here we go again, the Mother of events, if you think you have done some tough MTB races before. Will be my umpteenth attempt to finish one without cramps, and will most surely swap out the 34T for a 32T this year around - anyone got a 28T lying around, I'll gladly buy you some cold ones 🙂 Image attached from last year... clearly around the halfway mark, where smiles was still floating around.....
  16. As per our social media posts just out, please se update regarding the Anna Beulah corridor : Announcement Regarding Anna Beulah Corridor
  17. Hi Chris, should you get asked by one of the Discount Partners to confirm your membership, you can simply show them the mail from your inbox with confirmation of approved / processed 2023 membership. Most folk find it easy to just do a screengrab from such and have it handy on their phone if asked for.
  18. A kind reminder to existing members to attend to their online renewals by end of January 2023. Also remember to make use of your membership benefit, the Discount Partners program (see club's website for details). Any membership queries may be directed to the club via info@tygerbergmtb.co.za or 0796933177.
  19. ....30 days out, how the climbing legs coming along ??
  20. Absolute Absolon no longer exists from the beginning of 2022 Julien Absalon took on the role of principal at BMC MTB Racing
  21. ....he's back with BMC
  22. Correct, Wilderness Search and Rescue, who is affiliated to the Mountain Club of South Africa, Cape Town Region. Just note the correct telephone number as printed on the back of the 2023 Tygerberg Membership boards, is 021 937 0300 not 021 927 .....as per the comment by Philip. They have a great reputation as you mentioned, hence we recommend them to be contacted.
  23. Afternoon. It is always unfortunate to hear of any rider coming off and getting hurt. As for the emergency number we had printed on the back of our 2022 membership boards, this is the number for MSCA Search and Rescue. Their number changed during the past year, and is currently no longer in use. Their new number is being used on all the 2023 boards - as per the image attached. Speedy recovery to the rider.
  24. ....means 28 riders has done a hike with stunning views since November
