  1. Who can recommend better Garmin software than the Garmin Training Centre? Needs to be Mac compatible
  2. No, BMW is not for me. I like something a little different, but I don't have to own the only one in the country. Somewhere in between is fine for me. Here is the brain path so far: my HT 29er retails for R24000 and having ridden it for 7 weeks, I could maybe get R16-19000 for it. Being a foreign brand (Rotwild), I can't imagine too many buyers being prepared to pay a premium for a bike they have never heard of. Having to spend at least R 30000 for a new FS 29er (exclude Giant), I am in for another 14k minimum. Buying a black Jet 9 for R18500 ( I can get the white frame for R16000, but I don't like what it looks like), I can move my parts (all XT ,Fox, DT Swiss) over for about R1000. Would I be wrong in guessing that a built-up Jet 9 with the same spec would cost closer to 40k? All in all, I think buying a frame set is the best way to go. The new Scott is a good value bike to buy, even the carbon comes in at around R37k, but I am not a Scott man. Again, common sense and financial prudence should rule, but they don't.
  3. Looks like nobody has a Wild Card.
  4. I wish price was the only consideration, but unfortunately the heart has a say here too. The Giant is a good value bike, but in my opinion it is "ordinary". This is why certain brands charge a premium for perception. I am one of those who is looking for a bike not ridden by everyone and I am one of the suckers who is prepared to pay more for that. Criticize me all you like, but I am looking for quality, value and a bike not seen all over the place. At the moment the Jet 9 ticks those boxes for me.
  5. Thanks for all the input. I have narrowed my search down to the Niner Jet 9. Very nice frame for R18500. Checking otday to see whether I can move parts across from my other bike without incurring huge extra costs. Makes no sense to pay so much more for carbon when you are only saving 500g in weight. I can lay off the chocs for a month and drop more than that off my frame.
  6. To gather some ammunition in my quest to have single track built on the slopes of Table Mountain, I would like to know the following: 1. Do you have a Wild Card? 2. How often do you use it? 3. Do you cycle in San Parks reserves on a regular basis (for instance, Tokai/Silvermine)? 4. Do you think cyclists are catered for specifically, by San Parks? 5. Would you be prepared to pay to get access to areas, currently off-limits to cyclists? 6. If you have ONE idea/suggestion to enhance the cycling experience, what would it be? I would appreciate as much feedback as possible. Please restrict yourself to a YES/NO answer on questions 1-5. Try and keep your answer to question 6 short and succinct. I know we all have grumbles and gripes, but I am looking for pro-active and achievable ideas and suggestions. Thanks
  7. P.S. You can buy my 29er HT for R19000. It's 7 weeks old.
  8. 60% of all the guys who rode the 2011 Epic bought new bikes before the race. Do you really want to be another statistic?
  9. Not mad about the Tallboy. Is the Jet 9 available ?
  10. Thanks guys, keep the suggestions rolling in. I have also just been recommended the Trek Superfly 100 for 39k, the complete bike. On import from Germany I can claim back 19% German Vat which brings it down to R 31200. Knocked down into all its parts, no duty applies and I have container service , so no need to import via the Post Office. Any good?
  11. I got myself a hard tail 29er beginning of August to see whether I would enjoy it. I have been riding a 26inch Carbon Full Suspension up to now and I must say that I am sold on the 29er. I am 1,9m tall and weigh 88kg and I feel at home on the bigger wheel. I want to consider getting a 29er Full Suspension, but need some advice on which brand? Both my bikes are Rotwild from Germany, but I am still waiting to hear whether they are planning to launch a 29er FS. I would go for one if they do, but in the meantime, give me your recommendations. I am not looking at the top end of the price scale, limit yourselves to about 40-50K. The other option is to get a frame set only . I have full XT on the 29er (3x10) and a good wheelset which I can migrate across.
  12. I have an Aluminium frame with a seat post which is driving me mad. It creaks when I sit on it over bumpy terrain. The bolts on the clamp are not over tightened, the saddle probably also squeaks a little, but is not the main source of the noise. The bike was recently set up and the seat post still has enough length inside the tube. I am using a KCNC double clamp which attaches to the frame and seat post. Any ideas?
  13. I have had a chat with the Hub and the Table Mountain Bikers Forum will have a home right here. I agree, get more exposure via an existing, well frequented platform and that should rub off in a positive way.
  14. The 100 Mountain Bikers will be shown on Supercycling tonight, it is confirmed. Please take a look and get in touch with me if you want to be added to mailing list. Check out the Buff we are making to raise some funds. If you would like to order one, drop me a mail at ride@tablemountainbikers.co.za or send me a PM. TMB Buff design layout.pdf
  15. Awsme, I get your point, but we ride on Table Mountain and I can hardly imagine that a mountain biker from Gauteng is interested in a conversation around what time 2 guys want to meet up for a ride. Most of my members use the Hub and therefore would be sharing information with the Hub community as well. I don't see any dilution occurring. If you want to find out more about what we do , I would be happy to put you on my mailing list.
  16. I have a website with 200 names on a mailing list and I want to get a Forum programme I can add to my site so that the members can interact directly with each other. Something like the Hub, but on a much smaller scale.I see sites in the web offering a Forum, but for a monthly fee and I just don't trust the sites, unless they are referred by someone I know has experience. The Forum could be hosted somewhere else ,another site, and I have a link on my site which direct you to the Forum.
  17. This sounds like a daft question, but I wonder if anyone can tell me where I can find a Forum to add to my website? I have Tablemountainbikers.co.za and would like the guys on the mailing list to interact with each other, same as here on the Hub. I am not a IT specialist and am a bit wary of signing up to a service which costs money and I have no idea whether I will get what I paid for. Any pointers would be appreciated.
  18. 32GI is good , but you get sick of the sweet taste if you ride a lot. I switched to Enduren which is virtually flavourless. I can't give you a scientific answer as to which drink is the best, but Enduren agrees with me and seems to work as a supplement.
  19. Just got word from Supersport that the 100 Mountain Bikers Awareness ride will be screened next week. Tonight's programme was too full and some items had to be moved. Please make a note of the change. Sorry about that, but it will be aired on the 13th at 7pm.
  20. I am looking to teams entered for the Pioneer Trek who want their own Physio for the event. My wife is a Physio of 15 years experience, but not keen to come to the Pioneer this year. If i can get a couple of riders together she will re-consider. She looked after my partner and me and 3 other teams at the Epic and everyone raved. Anybody interested ,drop me a mail at zulurob@iafrica.com
  21. The 100 Mountain Bikers ride will be featured on Supercycling, Tuesday 6 September. Tell everyone about it.
  22. Me.
  23. Forgot to mention the sleeve sponsor of the TMB cycling tops and got a bit of a frosty email from the agent. Daum Electronic, thank you for your assistance.
  24. Was that a repeat of the piece they had on the 7pm Etv news last night?
