  1. But you can work at a very high heart rate and spin all the way up a hill - at a slow pace and very little power
  2. I am already working with BikemaxPower but thought I'd throw the question to the forum Imtb2007-11-20 10:28:22
  3. But doesn't a higher wattage mean that you are working harder? Let me rephrase that - I could be working at a higher power output but lower heart rateImtb2007-11-20 10:26:27
  4. Just started training with a power meter. If I ride at average 270 Watts in a big gear for twenty minutes at 80% HR, will riding at a higher speed and cadence in slightly smaller gear but same power (270W) mean I am working harder during that interval - because my average heart rate might be at 88%
  5. Bottom line - if your bike isn't set up correctly you could be aggrivating the condition. We don't have a Cyclelab where I am but on a visit to JHB, their attention to detail went far beyond any other set ups I have had...and it definitely cured the pain I was beginning to feel on the outside of my knee. No problems now!

  10. How good are mielies as a carbohydrate. How does a mielie compare to a potato or pasta etc?Imtb2007-11-13 12:34:31
  11. Thanks for the advice
  12. I have two mtb bikes, a hard tail and a soft tail. Should the rear suspension be taken into account when measuring the seat height. So should I take a measurement from my Giant Anthem 2 sitting on the bike and then use that seat height for my hard tail. The height is correct on the Giant.
  13. The Red Bull is for that last 40 minute...to stay awake and finish!
  14. So when you start fast for a 15 hour mtb race - how long would you look at keeping that pace. What sort of heart rate are we talking. I think it sounds logical - most riders will start really slowly - probably slower than they should. Rather start quicker and then ride the pace they will be rding any way?Imtb2007-10-29 04:54:50
  15. I guess if you go fast for too long, the faster you are likely to bonk. Why can't you eat after 3 hours?
  16. Hi Titus - have you done a few of these races - interested in the starting fast bit Imtb2007-10-29 04:18:34
  17. I guess it depends on how much training you have done, the standard of rider etc - if you ride at the back in races, well I gues one needs to rest for an hour, but i would agree with Dirt rider - keep moving Imtb2007-10-25 13:02:16
  18. Would be nice to hear from experts out there!Imtb2007-10-25 13:00:39
  19. Best drink for this kind of distance? How often should one eat?
  20. Do you really rest for an hour? I am guessing the 210km will take around 14 hours...well thats how long I expect to be riding give or take Imtb2007-10-25 12:47:52
  21. Any tips on riding a 200km+ mountain bike race as far as fuel and the pace one rides is concerned.
  22. Anyone out there have an idea on what averaged priced wheel to get to build the PowerTap pro onto - for a mountain bike. What should I be looking for bearing in mind that I won't be using the bike for racing, (will do a few races to get an idea of my power during a race) just for training.
  23. Having read a large number of comments on cyclingforums.com I would have to agree with you Peter.
  24. Bottom line is, I want to train with a power meter but at the end of the day it is what one can afford. Upgrading my bike won't make me a stronger rider, but I think I am right in saying that training with power is the way to go - and if a PowerTap is an option for a mountain bike and is the cheapest option, I guess I will just have to pick and choose the weather I ride it in - if thats possible. What do you think string bean - its either no power meter or the PowerTap.
