@milky4130 got a bit burned out after the standford 100 and have just been riding MTB in tygerberg hills. But i plan on doing the paarl route in the next week.

Thoughts on this? Seems like a nice long ride without any dangerous areas. Could also skip the loop part by botties and come back along the same gravel roads after and also perhaps explore the mountain more by paarl to get some elevation in https://www.strava.com/routes/3430467830169413838

It’s more airline related than destination related. Qatar and emirates are quite good with bikes. If you have a good, compact bike bag, they are very accommodating. Keep it under weight limits and if you’re unsure, just call them. They are free if you swap it with a checked bag, otherwise it depends. From Austria (not Australia) it was 3000 rand each way if it’s not a swap with a check in bag and 23kg was weight limit.

During the week 30-40k weekends 70-100km. I also have an mtb to test em out first haha. Anything stellies side? Can maybe connect via bottleray hills but then i need another permit. I don’t mind tar riding tbh. i see quite a few okes on gravel bikes so i always wonder where they’re riding but I’m always going the other direction so i can’t ask them 😂

Hey hey, I’m down for the holidays and I’ve brought my gravel bike with me. I’m staying here in Durbanville (close to Glengarry), and I’m trying to find some gravel routes but I’m struggling. I’ve done the green route in Bottleray Conservatory and that was lekker. I’ve also got the Tygerberg permit. I have 50mm tyres and I’m rather competent off-road so I am not too shy but some of the MTB routes are for sure too rough haha. Anyone else here riding gravel willing to share some routes? Maybe via pm? Thanks!

Was pick pocketed a few years ago. First thing they tried was a phishing link (fake login page for iCloud) to my recovery number via sms. Then they called acting to be a police officer. All I had to do was give them my phone pin to prove that it was my phone otherwise they had to release the criminals that they caught with the cell phone. Felt sketch so i hung up and called the saps they claimed to be and obviously no such thing had happened. Also most people use the same pin for their phone and banking app. Which also tends to be their birth date. So if they get your pin via phishing, they get your banking app too.

Seriously frustrating. Stellenbosch has some of the best riding, but every entrance except polka seems to have consistent muggings.

Thanks guys, can anyone dm me or share here where one can find these groups. Here in Austria all the group rides are on Strava, but i dont see anything in WC on strava or any other socials. I will likely fly my gravel bike down and ride a lot of gravel if its safer. But i also have a road bike and access to am MTB haha.

What are the current danger areas? I'm coming back home from November to Jan, and haven't been in any Whatsapp groups, i'm in Durbanville but I cycle all over. I avoid R304 and Cloetesville (basically only enter Stellies via Polka or over Devonvale since I nearly got mugged @ R304). I also know that circle in Hout Bay is a hotspot by the police station (lol). Is Helshoogte safe again? It's my favourite climb and I'd hate to avoid it.

Hey, I’ll be visiting family in SA and staying in Vredekloof. Don’t like cycling alone in SA because I’ve been mugged before. I plan to get some road riding in and wanted to ask if anyone wanted to join for some rides around 50kms-80kms during the week. Longer ones on the weekend if im not riding with my father in law. Open to any routes and i’d also be keen to join group rides. I’m moderately fit at around 3.5w/kg if that matters Thanks in advance.
