  1. Im doing the Xterra light for the first time. Was just wondering how the transitions work, and do most of you just do the swim and run in cycling shorts. also any other advice for a newcomer
  2. Website shows them as being the same width, the arch rim is just a bit deeper...
  3. Hi I've been given a wheelset with American Classic Hubs and mavic x223 rims. The rims are a bit pinged and well used (3 epics will do that to them), so im looking to replace them with something lighter and hopefully similar strength. I ride mostly trail and XC , think of like the medium jumps in tokai.. I get that the Arch rims are stronger and therefore weigh more. I weigh 70 kg. Can i get away with buying a pair of crest rims, or they just for xc racing and minimal trail riding. i dont want to break a new expensive rim set in a few months.. I'm wanting to start putting more time into marathon riding and so lightness is wanted. or should i just buy some dt swiss revolution spokes to negate the weight gain of the arch rims Thanks Mike
  4. Was the argus mtb timed with chips. cos i finished the race, heard my name called out but my result isn't on the racetec website. With the argus on sunday, i wont to know where i must go back to the argus expo and check my chip. BTW i have done two race in jan and it worked then

  6. cheers
  7. Anyone know where you can buy these or if they are in the country yet http://www.mulebar.com/fuel-gels.asp
  8. You can buy a rockshox recon or manitou at crc for around 1700-2000. I don't know how large the difference will be from you 100mm. I would rather save for a decent frame and then build it up well from there. If you buy a decent 120mm fork and then buy a 150mm frame, you will need a new shock. Keep watching classifieds and there's a secong hand shop in cape town called avron cycles, if you are looking for a new frame now.
  9. I just seen that the cwcycles website has conti Race kings UST for R450 and maxxxis crossmark UST for R350. Where does a race king fit in and what kinda price could i find the 2bliss captain at.
  10. My bike initially came with fast traks. I like the tyres but do find that they lose it in certain situations. Ive now worn one of the tyres out to a slick. SO am looking for something with a bit more grip. I read the spez captain is similar to a fast trak but more grip and obviusly more RR. My friend also recommended the maxxis monorail. is the monorail similar to the fast trak. So What do you recommend between these two. ( Search function not working) (so asking porbably a already answered question) () MTBiker2010-03-23 11:10:40
  11. My bike came with a truvativ stylo crankset. It ran fine until my lbs serviced the bb. Afterwards on the next ride the cranks fell off. I took it back, they put lock-tite in and it ran fine afterwards. Recently i serviced the bb my self and re-tightened the cranks tite. On my next long ride they fell off 4-5 times. Is this a common problem with the truvativ style or do i have to just put locktite in.
  12. I realized it isn't a petzl it is a energizer headlight . The strap is stuck you cant undo it to wrap around a helmet Any more ideas
  13. How do you mount a headlight on to your helmet in a non-permanent way. Ive made bar lights and just want a small light so i can see where i look and for back up
  14. I did a ghetto conversion last week using conti 20's. It worked just had some trouble as the the tubes kept slipping down a side of the rim when the tyre was on. My friend gave me his old tubeless strips as he had bought tubeless rims. I checked and one of the strip is joes and other is stan. the joes covers the whole rim and touches the tyre bead like the ghetto. The stans just covers the rim base. WHat works best and should the ghetto be cut the same size as stans.
  15. My friend is riding with Kenda nevegals. His back tyre has worn a way in a year. I've heard crossmarks last a while and my spez fast traks have lasted 2 years and are still good. I've also heard he captains are good tyres although they have more rolling resistance. What would the best tyre be for training and races like. MTB challenge, vigne de vigne stellenbosch etc. His budget isn't big so cant' afford conti's , racing ralphs. Was qoued around R250-R350. for crossmark none-tubeless. would appreciate Any comments on pros/cons
