  1. Thanks Bud! I reported Cash Converters to The Consumer Goods Ombud and await a decision on the Momsen. I've never really ridden it because when I want to, it's broken. Will see what they say and go from there with regards to repairs, Cheers 🍺
  2. .
  3. Photo of the Carbon one off the net, it's exactly the same just alloy. I put the red silicone grips and bar ends on, today got a set of Red Valve stems and this means the bike is now basically complete. The Tan Tyres really spoil the look but I wasn't about to fork out another R1.5K just to make them black, will use these Tyres up first.
  4. There are some Titan Cypher Sport Dual Suspension bikes with a dropper post for R26k, brand new at The Bicycle Garage, they advertise on the Hub. Not the greatest or most refined bike, but I'm pretty happy with it and even happier that I didn't need to spend R70k - R180k to get on 2 wheels with a Centre shock. I could buy a fun used car or pay for the transfer and bond fees on another house with R70k 😛 On second hand bikes. I bought a used Momsen that I can't sell or use and now sit with in my garage, wasted R7k + R2.5k repairs and still needs another R2.5k worth of repairs... So stay away from used IMHO, you are 99% of the time buying someone else's 8 - 9 year old problem for R25k to R30k where you could get a brand new bike with a guarentee and peace of mind, especially if you're just getting into the sport like me.
  5. Thanks bud, Paid R28k for it, will send the Store deets via PM. I did take the last one there but they have some other nice bikes too, must say they scored a client for life outta me.
  6. Thanks everyone, Just went to look at Bikes and ended up getting a really sweet deal on a brand new Cypher Dash RS.
  7. Unreal, hope they own up and make it right with you.
  8. Thanks, I didn't see this by them. Only w the Cypher sport for around the same money but with a dropper post. Will look at what is different now
  9. Thanks Bud, I don't know what to look for and don't want to get burned again, so sitting without a rideable bike until I get an answer from The NCC or Consumer Goods Ombud. Would R30k build a decent, reliable bike equivalent of a New Titan?
  10. I am looking for a Large, with 29" wheels 👌
  11. Looking for a *NEW* Dual Suspension bike for between R25 and R30K-ISH. Unfortunately been burnt already buying a used Momsen and not keen on spending R25k on a 7 - 9 year old bike. I'm looking at some of the Titan Racing Cypher bikes, they look nice, have all the bells and whistles and fit somewhere in the price range I'm willing to spend, are there any other good options or a place where I can actually go check one out in GP? Alternatively what will it cost to build something from scratch? I only ride weekends when it hasn't rained so I don't need the greatest, lightest and most high tech parts/bikes out there, I just don't want another brake failure or spoke breakage issue. Thanks in advance.
  12. I had cycle lab rebuild both wheels, with new brass nipples. I don't really notice the weight increase but I am still a noob. Later on, 2 spokes on the front wheel came loose again after a ride or 2 but they have been perfect ever since.
  13. Thanks All, I'm glad I asked first!!! Will keep an eye out for a spot that does fitting
  14. Decided to treat the Cheeks and get a new seat. I saw some nice ones for around R500 or so at Cycle Lab with padding and gel and what what, What are the factors to look at when buying a seat, all I know now is that there's seats for Males and Females? And it's R500 a decent enough budget for a weekend warrior just starting out.
  15. I am going to have to call the store tomorrow and see what they say, I like the bike and I've already spent R1200 on it, putting me close to just spending the R9k I was trying to avoid spending in the first place. It supposedly has a 6 month warranty that means I shouldn't be spending anything on fixing it anyway, Latest quote for total rebuild, etc is almost R3k which puts me over the price of a brand new, but Sold Out, Rogue Cruz and none of this trouble.
  16. Well this is now my latest problem... They want to charge R500 to replace all the nipples with Brass, which I was OK with. The next story now is that they will look at it and replace only the bad spokes and all the nipples for R1000, so I could be paying R500 extra for anything between 0 and 72 Spokes, I don't know.
  17. Thanks for the offer, I don't have the rims with me at the moment and I don't know what my next move is going to be. If I keep the bike I'll get the measurements and drop you a DM. Thanks for the help!! Appreciate it
  18. Why?
  19. It's now become R1000 to replace some of the spokes that they deem not to be good. Told them to give me a quote and I'll have to first go back to CC and either ask them to sort it out or refund the bike, this is a bummer but a lesson learnt
  20. R500 to replace all nipples with Brass, I'm assuming that's all inclusive. So it seems the bike shop is making right? I'm just going to take the knock on this and pop the Cash Converters and email with the report to see if I can recoup the moola.
  21. Their prices are quite reasonable, thinking of sending the rims to them instead of the LBS here that didn't pick up the problem in the first place.
  22. Definitely wasn't worth R8500, I couldn't find anything similar online to compare the price to when I bought it and the info I got was that the bike was a good deal and I could get most of my money back when I bought something new in a year or two. I've spent R1200 on it since I bought it and was assured that it was good to go afterwards... That was for a full service, swapping the brakes L & R to be correct way around and then bleeding them, apparently stripping and greasing throughout (the cassette looked new when I got it back so it's possible), pumping the shock in front to my fat ass weight, some cheap R160 pedals and R250 odd for handles that add on to ends of the handlebar, fixing the wheels along with new goop or something and replacing the spoke nipples that were broken, if they had told me then that the nipples should all be done, especially because they were refilling the goop I would have said go ahead, but they didn't... So I will take that up with them on Wednesday. I'm not sure if I can even return it since there is nothing technically wrong with it, I'll get a report from the Bike shop and a Quote and go to the CC store I bought it from maybe, see what they say.
  23. Yes, Shock is sorted with the service and the lockout handle is R60 odd. I'm seriously thinking of taking it back before dropping more cash into it, not sure if I can take it back at all though. I don't want to go too far into the rabbit hole.
  24. Hi all, I'm new to MTB and loving it, I used to do Enduro riding with petrol power and this feels like home just a whole lot more fun (and alot more hard work ????) . I got myself this Momsen AL229 from Cash Converters for R7k, it seemed in good nick and my new riding mate who helped me get into the sport said it was a decent deal... So here we are. I've ridden the thing a total of 1 time on a track, Big Red Barn in Irene - 12km and the thing now has 3 broken spoke nipples, again. When I bought it, it had 1 broken spoke nipple in the front which I was told was no big deal, a full service and truing of what I assume was only the front wheel at a bike Shop in PTA East for about R1200 with +/- R450 in pedals and stuff I asked for, it was all hunky dory and the bike felt good. I pull the bike out of the garage now to load on my bakkie for a lekker afternoon ride and find 2 more spoke nipples in front and 1 back are again broken off. I'm so bummed as I was assured this thing was good to go after the service, and at this point I could have bought a much newer bike for R9K from a bike shop in some equally cool colours. Pic attached of what the spoke end looks like, when I got the bike back they wheels looked pretty true, on the day of the ride they looked a bit wobbly but I was told it was the sealant in the tire that was causing that.
