I’m today at a loss for words. François’ cousin, passed away yesterday. He had a motorcycle accident. I have no other details as yet. It’s the family - Oom Jacques & Tannie Tertia (who took my in as one of their own children) in Robertson’s son. Please for those who don’t mind me asking - please pray for them. I’m too shocked at the moment to function at all and I know they need prayers.

I survived my first ever night ride. Not yet sure how I feel about it. The best thing from a night ride, is the fact that you cannot see further than the beams of your bike light. Which might be a blessing in disguise, otherwise I wouldn’t have made it back in one whole piece. I have seen a Cape Eagle-Owl, but was unfortunately too dark for me to take a photo. And the people enjoyed making me scared of scorpions, spiders and cobra’s, so my feet barely touched ground. Have set two new PR’s today (I know it’s not great yet), but I’m slowly getting there. I’m proud of myself and I know, François would also be proud to see what I have accomplished.

Had a not so fun experience tonight on the ebike. Did about 25km but the last 3.5km I thought I was literally dying. I just couldn’t get through the last hill. Switched to an easier gear and again and again…. Still can’t manage this. I thought by myself tonight I’m dying near Bon Cap - at least it is beautiful scenery. So I started walking next to the bike, feeling extremely sorry for myself. It’s getting dark and I have no light on myself or the bike. Eventually I start seeing familiar faces - Oom Jacques and Tannie Tertia. They seemed very concerned because why am I not on the bike. Eventually they told me I must have switched the bike off during the ride. Probably when going downhill at 48 km/h and I was braking all the way down. So lesson for the day: Bikes do switch off and it is way, way more difficult to push through uphill with a 23kg bike. At least I had a solid workout 😣

I did an ebike ride today. Can tell with lots of confidence that I’m in love with that bike. Best, best, best ride I ever had (and having an absolute beautiful view obviously helped a lot 😁). Just love the Western Cape.
