  1. Also started in BL... Flip you okes at the front of the pack really tore everyone to pieces yesterday. Havent had that type of racing in open seeded in a while!!! and from second 1... Coming off some long rests in Winter, so had to constantly pull myself back to the pack after a 10m gap opened up. Around 65km, I just couldn't get myself back again and had about a 30km ride on my own before the next BL remnants caught me, which I was super grateful for. Managed a 3:00 Good race to test the legs and have a few hard talks with oneself about the long winter :-).
  2. Are there any other group rides, in and around the area (or even Randburg) with groups bigger than 10 that you guys would suggest. Looking for a good bunch of people to keep the accountability going of meeting with a bunch and also pushing each other to ride better and faster Thanks
  3. Hello All I have taken a break from the bike for a few months, since June this year. Very keen to get back into it. Moved to Randburg a few months back and don't have a group to train with atm... I have heard of this group and quite keen to join up for a ride and getting into the community. Can someone give me some additional info or maybe send me a PM then we can have a chat. Would like to join for a ride or 2 before 94.7 and then continue to ride Thanks
  4. Hello All... Back at work today, and must say, what an INCREDIBLE experience. The day is super long and there is so much time for stuff to go wrong, but in the same light, enough time to get yourself going again... I had a goal of 11h30min in the week leading up. This was my first full so knew it would be quite a push. The swim went ok with a time of 1h15min. Didn't feel great as halfway started feeling sick with a little bit of chop in the water. Coached myself through it and just kept calm. A little slower than I expected but 5min was not going to ruin my day Jumped on the bike and felt as fresh as ever. Had a good ride for the first 90, and then started to hurt a little in the neck and could feel the legs burning up. I managed to keep it going though and got to the turnaround point with 45km back. Flip the headwind was pumping crazy on the home leg and it was a real push to get the speed up. Legs were getting tired with each pedal stroke. Ended up with a 6h05min bike, which in hindsight was not too bad considering the headwind Then, the long marathon. I had a preset-plan going into the run and needed to stay in a specific zone. First 20km I felt incredible and possible the best run I have ever had off the bike. I could take in the whole vibe and crazy atmosphere. I started getting hungry and didn't have a FarBar with me. I thought I'd have a quarter sarmie on the course (even though our coach advised me not to) just to keep my stomach full... 1km further and BOOM, dead, flat and couldn't even walk properly. I spent about an hour walking, sitting and laying on the ground. Even thinking of pulling out as I was dizzy. I starting vomiting and on the second set, the bread came out. I started taking on coke to get the calories in and in about 10min I was ready and fighting again. I started running again and felt like nothing was ever wrong With an hour lost I wasn't too happy but realized that I will actually finish the race and be able to tick off this major achievement. I soldiered on, having the crowd and my support team pull me through When I went over that line... INCREDIBLE to know that you have just put your body through a 226km journey. I immediately said I will never be back, but as I sit here with a sore body, I feel that there is some unfinished business waiting for me in PE. Ended up with a total time of 12h35min. WHAT A RACE!!!
  5. I have 2... You can have one that I am not using anymore. R400
  6. Cannot believe the time has come... #741 for me Hoping for sub12, but considering first one, I just want a good day out!!! Driving down on Thursday to have legs up on Friday See you all out there. Travel safe
  7. I am worried... First one... Nuff said :-) Have a hard week still this week and then heading into taper.
  8. Yes just swim in your tri-suit. The difference between a trisuit and cycling chamois (shammy) is that the trisuit does not absorb water. Last year in Durban Ultra wetsuits were not allowed, and you just swim in the trisuit
  9. Whooop Whooop its race week... Had a bit of an injury over the weekend with the run. Nursing the leg hard so will see what it feels like tomorrow. Heading down on Wednesday already. Must say cannot wait to get a Friesland Milkshake in for good luck
  10. Not ideal at all... I am also pushing very long hours on the road over the last few days. I am lucky though as my wife also does it with me, so every morning we still get up and train. Although on very little sleep, it makes it easier if she also gets up. So although you wont get any fitter in 2 weeks, you can stuff it up quite easily if you get it wrong. For the halves we only taper 1 week. See what you can do to at least keep the blood flowing in the muscles and get even 30min in somewhere. Good luck with the race. Gonna be a great one :-)
  11. Normally the Saturday swim is crazy. Even in Durban 70.3 this year, there were hundreds of groups and people swimming in the morning around 9ish and 10ish. Looked like a race and also not official swim. But more than welcome to come out. Will probably add more details when we have set the times and days. Although not too many of us going down to EL. Probably around 5 or 6
  12. No worries man... Would be cool. We are going down on Wednesday already so will want to get 2 swims in. Shortish swims like 10 - 15min, most likely on Thursday and Saturday
  13. Take a look at the Huub suits... The Archimedes 2 is probably one of the best wetsuits out there. But there are other amazing suits in the range. Give me a shout if you are keen
