  1. How an Epic S-Works Evo costs the same as a KTM 790 adventure baffles the mind though ...
  2. Stick to jeep track and follow signage to continue with red route, or to link up with green route and continue to right turn halfway up the hill to link up with Geelslang. Game camps on two farms, Bonfoi & Kastanjeberg.
  3. No fixed date, a simple case of when the fence is up its closed, could be this week could be end of the month. Will post here and on FB once fenced off.
  4. Interpreting the "no night riding" rule is simple, if you need a bikelight on the trails to see where you are going then you are either too early or too late.
  5. Its an international "problem" not a typically South african" one. "You can lead a horse to water ...." Until there is a passion for competetive cycling akin to soccer it will always be a case for donor/sponsored funding and the odd "development rider" crossing the line. This may apply to all individual sports like golf, tennis, swimming etc where parent involvement and great capital/time investment is required to step a promising kid to the top of the podium.
  6. Yes, just make sure they write the date you intend to ride on the bikeboard.
  7. 2020 Annual permits get released tomorrow so you have a month to grab one before the 2019 permits expire on the 31st December. The 2020 permits are valid from date of purchase to 31 December 2020.
  8. From a trail background, being heavier and having the ability to zip uphill the potential damage and maintenance of trails is going to become an issue going forward with an increase in e-bike numbers. No surprise if trail systems start banning their use on trails. Another thing, an E-biker passes you on the uphill during an event only to hang on the brakes on the next singletrack dragging a train of 20 riders without making way for anyone to pass. Eventually you get a gap on the next jeeptrack only to be passed by said rider on the next uphill to end up, once again in a train on the next singletrack. E-bikes allow a less skilled / fit rider to get in a position where they end up bottlenecking and spoiling an entire ride for a lot of people when said rider should not be in that part of the field in the first place. Its a problem and its going to get worse.

  10. Blue route closed until further notice, once safe to enter the area we will assess the damage.
  11. Trail Notice: Ribbok singletrack has been re-opened. Please be vigilant and proceed with caution as trees may still fall and block the trail. You'll also notice that we are busy with extensive cutting of the trail verges, should all be done by end of next week. Enjoy the warmer weather and spring flowers.
  12. 2018 annual permits are now available for purchase via our website. We have capped the number available to 1500. They are valid from purchase and expire 31 December 2018. Remember to take a copy of your completed order email when you collect your bikeboard. Familiarise yourself with our trail rules and get your bum on the bike!
  13. Jordan Loop, Bottelary Hills Conservancy.
  14. Has to rate as one of my best days on a bike. The people, the trails, the weather and the organising was outstanding.
  15. Ribbok trees cleared.
  16. Know where they, will obviously require groundwork, in due course.
  17. Trees and other debris on Ribbok singletrack have been cleared.
  18. Hi DjCyclist. The problem with night-riding is multiple. First and foremost we're a Conservancy with a mandate to suit. Most of the fauna are night time mammals, caracal, small spotted genet, cape grysbok, duiker to name a few. Then there are a host of other night time creatures like porcupine, various owls, thick-knees (formerly spotted dikkop) frogs, mice, insects etc etc ... Lights (especially high intensity bike lights) place these animals under stress as they associate them with humans. I can carry on about how these lights can blind animals by damaging retinas etc but I'm sure you get the just. Secondly access control is an issue, we have enough trouble during the day, night time/after hours will complicate matters further. Thirdly (read along with the second reason) farm security is a major issue. If we see a light at night we know it doesn't belong there, a lost cyclist or a rider taking a shortcut suddenly becomes a security issue. Lastly the landowners simply don't want cyclists on their property at night as the trails are perfectly fine to ride during the day. The fastest route to having these trails closed down is to allow night riding (I include organised/ guided options in this statement) and the can of worms it will open up. Thankfully we don't need to worry about that as the decision was made long ago. "No riding with lights."
  19. Its not "Goodbye Dstv" until you've cut the cables from the dish and heard the satisfying "click" as the side-cutter severs the cable. #nogoingback
  20. Just make sure to be off the trails before dark. No riding with lights allowed. Riding time from sunrise to sunset. In other words, NO NIGHT RIDING.
  21. Spring morning at Bottelary Hills Conservancy.
  22. TRAIL NOTICE: The new Jordan Loop is open for riding. The distance is 4.5km with two singletrack sections and jeeptrack along vineyard roads. There are some spectacular views from the top which include False Bay and the Mountain ranges from Helderberg to Simonsberg. Day permits are available from Jordan Bakery at 07h00 Mon - Fri and 07h30 on weekends. This trail opens up an exit for riders wishing to return to Overgaauw, Asara and Stellenbosch via the Stellenbosch Kloof tarred road. There is also a link to Zevenwacht and the Green Loop.
  23. Special place to ride. Best enjoyed with a well prepared set of arms and legs. The 63km will test the best but will no doubt be a highlight in your MTB memory bank. Doing the 37km after a two year injury lay-off.
  24. Yes. We're burning alien clearing stacks to open a firebreak. Doesn't effect any of the cycling trails.
