  1. To you too mate. Indeed.
  2. Used to go skiing in Switzerland when I lived in the UK. All the chalets/apartments were triple glazed. When you look out over houses covered in snow and it's all nice and cozy, you see the point. The other thing when houses are covered in snow, you can see straight away where the heat is escaping - the snow melts. On Swiss houses, there ain't much melted snow.
  3. Housing market is carnage at the moment. Guy who helps us out with finances just says it's never been cheaper to buy houses, basically due to the interest rate. So people are buying them. As to your question, I've never much stopped asking that question. Only answer I can come up with is that we don't currently live in any debt. But how we'd afford to service the debt, if that's the case, is also a question I can't answer.
  4. There was a guy selling a Jeep Cherokee across the road from us when I was looking for a car - he used it for carting stuff around when he was renovating houses. I was chatting to him about stuff and his comment was "well, you can spend a bundle renovating an old house, but you still have an old house..." We're moving into a multi-level house also cut into a (south facing) hillside - as it is currently the only habitable rental in our school zone. I can imagine it's going to be like trying to heat a chimney in winter. The gas heater is at the front door at the bottom of the house and I can see the heat creeping along the ceiling and leaking out the topmost, back bedroom leaving the living areas still cold... My buddy who's just bought a new build out in Kumeu reckons he turns his heat pump on for half an hour and the house stays warm for hours.
  5. Went cruising around Thailand in a previous life - there were teak houses out in some of the villages that were allegedly over 1000 years old... or so my brain tells me.
  6. NZ turns to mud in winter, just about everywhere. One would assume that wherever a house has contact with the ground that some sort of waterproofing layer would make sense. It's not obvious that it is a practice tho.
  7. Our current 'rumpus' is is like that in spades - useful for storage and miraculously not too much went mouldy... Currently looking for a new rental and there have been a number that would have been fine if they weren't damp - but I just think 'would I live in a room like this, or want one of my kids to live in a room like this' and the answer is no. I'm just wondering if I'm being picky given how prevalent it is. I used the 'rumpus' as an office during the plague months and came to loathe it...
  8. What's with just about all rental downstairs rooms being damp or smelling damp. Don't they know about damp courses?
  9. Nice. We currently looking for new rental for end Jan as our current rental has been sold. Wouldn't mind if there was a new house at the end of the line... well, there will be, but not in 10 months.
  10. Where you moving to Wayne?
  11. Yeah, you learn about Heller's pretty damn quick and don't do that again. These were specialty sausages from Seaview Butchery in Milford - 'The Original's, that made our name' in between a bunch of other lamb and mint and pork and apple and whatever varieties. They may as well have been Heller's. Kiwi concepts of a sausage is like somebody who's read about them in a book, but never experienced what a real one is like. Or you need to fry them in an inch of bacon grease or something. Pinehill Butchery and Meatbox do decent wors, thank goodness.
  12. Not even an ugly. A tragic. Kiwi sausages. I mean, WTF man..?
  13. Yeah, not so sure about that... and no, it's not a woman's shirt either, just can't find a men's shirt link...

  19. Just had a quick Google - Two Strokes, 1 Goal. Fk, forget about shampoo, who passed that? Easy come, easy go, I suppose...
  20. What do you like about the 250 over the 450? I've always suspected 'light and manouverable, with enough poke' would beat 'not so light and manouverable, with more than enough poke', but never had the wherewithall to test...
