  1. My Blue Collar Singlespeed Almost everything bought off the Hub Chainring and sprocket are nine speed I broke up two old clusters, used some of the plastic spacers and ground some of the sprockets down and reconnected them with the threaded pin to spread the load over more of the freewheel. I cut off the tabs of an old 44 chainring to act as spacers so that I could use normal 3x chainring bolts My favourite component on the bike is the Juicy 5 caliper that got some houding from brake fluid erosion Next step is to wait for the right steel frame
  2. Anybody have an alternative for DT Swiss fork oil?
  3. Maybe you can figure out where the blockage could be from this. Have tried pushing fluid through from both directions? What happens if you pump the lever while trying to push fluid through? Is it possible to flush the lever with detergent? http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/2012-avid-elixir-9-7-brake-internals-clear01.jpg Here is a link that seems will give you the best advice - the o-ring is possibly the fault, easy fix if you have an engineering shop nearby http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/avid-elixir-5-bleeding-problem
  4. Seems like a known issue, will wait for the next generations before going 1x10 http://forums.mtbr.com/drivetrain-shifters-derailleurs-cranks/clutch-broken-xt-shadow-plus-859272.html Let us know what they say
  5. I am "servicing" my F29 100Rl fork and am struggling to reinsert this retaining ring!!!!!!Solved - my bad didn't depress the piston far enough - actually really easy

  7. Public road is for everyone, arrogant donkeyholes as well as cyclists in black!
  8. I think it is the overfilling (bled too well) so will add a piece of cardboard on either side of bleed block next time I bleed
  9. My elixir have a setting you can do with your fingers on the front of the lever
  10. Tried with the lever reach no luck - just gonna ride to the top of Paarl Mountain and if they still "tring" along at the bottom, will sand them
  11. Nice Pdf that explains a lot! http://www.evanscycles.com/product_document/file/af3/817/bdf/435/avid-hydraulic-brake-setup-guide.pdf
  12. Ok then, substitute compresses with put pressure on or what ever happens when you pull on the lever to brake!!!!!!!!
  13. Ok I am going to try this, maybe the lever adjust compresses the fluid a bit when adjusted closer???
  14. Yip that's what I do with the Elixers, the Juicy's I adjust by eye
  15. I am glad that is the case - any idea's what it might be I am not taking into account. I think sometimes that I have too much fluid in the system, that perhaps the avid bleed blocks, don't retract the pistons in completely?
  16. Please expand on the reach adjuster comment - what has that to do with pad adjustment? I would be great if that is the case
  17. It's that light scraping that I am talking about!
  18. It's that light scraping that I am talking about!
  19. I seem to have to bleed my Avid Brakes (Elixer5 and Juicy5) every time I replace pads despite cleaning pistons with brake fluid, making sure they are fully retracted and that neither piston is sticky. The new pads always seem to be too close to the rotor and scrape lightly. Is this a common problem, surely you should not have to bleed your brakes every time. What is a seemingly simple task always turns into a mission. And yes the pad alignment is done correctly!!
  20. Has the entry fee doubled (about) over the last couple of years - thought the entry was around 10K now see its R19500
  21. Good for you, hope it goes well!!!
  22. I am not an expert in batteries or led lights, but think I can lay claim on 'expert user', and would like to share my experience. Many moons back I bought a kick ass LED light for around R3500 on a Special, it outshone anything else on the trail and battery runtime was second to none. However the run time after a year of use was not nearly what it was and had to get a replacement under warranty, again this battery lasted for a season. Cost of replacement R 900 bucks. Other negatives were that the light unit was bulky and top heavy so needed to be clamped with bolts to the handlebar. Everything was top quality and well machined no plastic to be seen anywhere. Customer service also way above average. Then decided to buy Chinese light through deal extreme three years ago, landed cost R 560. Batteries also last a season and runtime of 3 hrs plenty enough for any training ride. Light not nearly as powerful as 'non Chinese' but perfectly adequate for anything except singletrack maybe. Really easy to mount both light unit and battery. So I guess what I am saying is that for me the cheap Chinese model is a better option. I have had outstanding service from Hannes at Extreme lights and appreciate the advice he gives. I think he qualifies as an expert and the last hard shell battery unit I bought from him seems to be really robust. I am still using the light unit I bought cheaply off Dealextreme.com, oh and also the charger. Not bad for poor quality cheap Chinese

  25. Thanks, it's silicone tape, duct tape sticks to the frame like poo to a blanket!!! Tape keeps the brake hose from rattling like a flagpole rope in gale force wind!!
