  1. I am glad that is the case - any idea's what it might be I am not taking into account. I think sometimes that I have too much fluid in the system, that perhaps the avid bleed blocks, don't retract the pistons in completely?
  2. Please expand on the reach adjuster comment - what has that to do with pad adjustment? I would be great if that is the case
  3. It's that light scraping that I am talking about!

  5. I seem to have to bleed my Avid Brakes (Elixer5 and Juicy5) every time I replace pads despite cleaning pistons with brake fluid, making sure they are fully retracted and that neither piston is sticky. The new pads always seem to be too close to the rotor and scrape lightly. Is this a common problem, surely you should not have to bleed your brakes every time. What is a seemingly simple task always turns into a mission. And yes the pad alignment is done correctly!!
  6. Has the entry fee doubled (about) over the last couple of years - thought the entry was around 10K now see its R19500
  7. Good for you, hope it goes well!!!
  8. I am not an expert in batteries or led lights, but think I can lay claim on 'expert user', and would like to share my experience. Many moons back I bought a kick ass LED light for around R3500 on a Special, it outshone anything else on the trail and battery runtime was second to none. However the run time after a year of use was not nearly what it was and had to get a replacement under warranty, again this battery lasted for a season. Cost of replacement R 900 bucks. Other negatives were that the light unit was bulky and top heavy so needed to be clamped with bolts to the handlebar. Everything was top quality and well machined no plastic to be seen anywhere. Customer service also way above average. Then decided to buy Chinese light through deal extreme three years ago, landed cost R 560. Batteries also last a season and runtime of 3 hrs plenty enough for any training ride. Light not nearly as powerful as 'non Chinese' but perfectly adequate for anything except singletrack maybe. Really easy to mount both light unit and battery. So I guess what I am saying is that for me the cheap Chinese model is a better option. I have had outstanding service from Hannes at Extreme lights and appreciate the advice he gives. I think he qualifies as an expert and the last hard shell battery unit I bought from him seems to be really robust. I am still using the light unit I bought cheaply off Dealextreme.com, oh and also the charger. Not bad for poor quality cheap Chinese

  11. Thanks, it's silicone tape, duct tape sticks to the frame like poo to a blanket!!! Tape keeps the brake hose from rattling like a flagpole rope in gale force wind!!
  12. BS on replacing the frame in days - more like weeks!!!!!!
  13. Thanks for the reply, anybody in the Western Cape - singlespeed.co.za still down for maintenance, and my email not answered
  14. Anyone know if half links available in SA
  15. No worries - just going to use the rubber seal off an old BB bearing Need to take more off the shaft, then check again, last chance saloon - at least I am having fun!!!!!!
  16. Hey Skylark Thanks for the detailed reply - happened to find your MTBR posting last night, and duly applied the grinder - Think may have taken too little off, but using on my singlespeed conversion will give it a good test. For interest do you still have the 1mm spacer that fits in the recess of the drive side arm, mine is missing - or perhaps another fix. Judging by the number of similar problems, your fix could easily be pinned here. Thanks again
  17. Thanks for the reply - Seeing as the crank is toast anyway may as well get some use out of the chainring - surely won't be a problem to angle grind it off? Tip on pratley steel noted and agree on the XT crank
  18. System is a bit different, and think the problem is caused initially by that, but doesn't seem to help now Might just superglue it on, then grind it off once the bb or chainring goes, but would prefer a fix Thanks anyway
  19. Has anyone come across a fix for this problem. No matter how tight you make the crank or crank retaining bolt, the retainer still loosens. Think it is wear on the splines that causes it!
  20. Try a different rotor, are they perhaps Avid Elixir's, if so rotor (after trying everything else) is what worked for me
  21. For more clarity visit the noticeboard on www.paarlmtb.com Doubt primary objective was bike theft. They battled to get the bike in the car and were trying to force it in. Bike was definitely damaged after being hit by the car Bs WTF dude, hope you are never in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!!!
  22. A CYCLIST riding along a quiet road in Paarl was knocked down by a vehicle whose occupants fled with his bike. Rodney Kitching, 46, said he was riding his bicycle along Brug Street in Vrykyk just before 6am yesterday when he noticed a Silver Grey Audi A3 parked outside a house on a new development along the road. Kitching was on his way to join his cycling group which rides every morning along Brug Street. After Kitching tried to look closely at the car while riding past, it drove past him. A few minutes later the car returned. “They were really driving fast this time,” Kitching said. He said they went straight at him and tried to push him out of the way. Kitching tried to swerve and rode closer to the pavement but the “bike was too close to the car”. “They hit me and I landed on the car, bounced over the roof and landed on the ground. I was so shocked that I didn’t even have time to take down the registration number.” While Kitching was still on the ground, the vehicle raced down Brug Street and turned around and came at him again. He got up and picked his bike. He started running and two young men got out of the car and chased him. He dropped his bike and jumped over a wall and banged on the front door of a house on the road. When the owners came out, the two men took Kitching’s bike and fled in their car. He escaped with only a cut on his left leg. Kitching said that he had lodged a complaint at the Paarl police station. 31 Mar 2011 Cape Times Xolani Koyana xolani.koyana@inl.co.za
