  1. BS on replacing the frame in days - more like weeks!!!!!!
  2. Thanks for the reply, anybody in the Western Cape - singlespeed.co.za still down for maintenance, and my email not answered
  3. Anyone know if half links available in SA
  4. No worries - just going to use the rubber seal off an old BB bearing Need to take more off the shaft, then check again, last chance saloon - at least I am having fun!!!!!!
  5. Hey Skylark Thanks for the detailed reply - happened to find your MTBR posting last night, and duly applied the grinder - Think may have taken too little off, but using on my singlespeed conversion will give it a good test. For interest do you still have the 1mm spacer that fits in the recess of the drive side arm, mine is missing - or perhaps another fix. Judging by the number of similar problems, your fix could easily be pinned here. Thanks again
  6. Thanks for the reply - Seeing as the crank is toast anyway may as well get some use out of the chainring - surely won't be a problem to angle grind it off? Tip on pratley steel noted and agree on the XT crank
  7. System is a bit different, and think the problem is caused initially by that, but doesn't seem to help now Might just superglue it on, then grind it off once the bb or chainring goes, but would prefer a fix Thanks anyway
  8. Has anyone come across a fix for this problem. No matter how tight you make the crank or crank retaining bolt, the retainer still loosens. Think it is wear on the splines that causes it!
  9. Try a different rotor, are they perhaps Avid Elixir's, if so rotor (after trying everything else) is what worked for me
  10. For more clarity visit the noticeboard on www.paarlmtb.com Doubt primary objective was bike theft. They battled to get the bike in the car and were trying to force it in. Bike was definitely damaged after being hit by the car Bs WTF dude, hope you are never in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!!!
  11. A CYCLIST riding along a quiet road in Paarl was knocked down by a vehicle whose occupants fled with his bike. Rodney Kitching, 46, said he was riding his bicycle along Brug Street in Vrykyk just before 6am yesterday when he noticed a Silver Grey Audi A3 parked outside a house on a new development along the road. Kitching was on his way to join his cycling group which rides every morning along Brug Street. After Kitching tried to look closely at the car while riding past, it drove past him. A few minutes later the car returned. “They were really driving fast this time,” Kitching said. He said they went straight at him and tried to push him out of the way. Kitching tried to swerve and rode closer to the pavement but the “bike was too close to the car”. “They hit me and I landed on the car, bounced over the roof and landed on the ground. I was so shocked that I didn’t even have time to take down the registration number.” While Kitching was still on the ground, the vehicle raced down Brug Street and turned around and came at him again. He got up and picked his bike. He started running and two young men got out of the car and chased him. He dropped his bike and jumped over a wall and banged on the front door of a house on the road. When the owners came out, the two men took Kitching’s bike and fled in their car. He escaped with only a cut on his left leg. Kitching said that he had lodged a complaint at the Paarl police station. 31 Mar 2011 Cape Times Xolani Koyana xolani.koyana@inl.co.za

  13. Oh no Bikemonster are u whinging or whining? Which offends you more and will compel you to complain (whinge/whine)about People who live in glasshouses.....
  14. Agree u do seem weird but have quite the talent as a master debater!
  15. From constructive comment and debate to the Hub gutter! Well done Ultimate hubber - I'm off
  16. Ok boet then send me the bucks!!
  17. Send me the R 250 and I will stop posting I think you will find it is more about the principle than the money! + the same logic can be used on the timing issue "Start timing all chip wearing participants already!!"
  18. One more observation - Why are PPA events not exclusively for PPA members?
  19. How about organising a proxy on the hub - I give you my vote
  20. Again an excerpt of my correspondence As the timing of the event is electronic and computer based and the equipment is in place already it really doesn't make sense that it would cost much more to time everyone with a transponder. Surely part of the extra entry fee could cross subsidise your expense. This would add to your membership benefits in two ways, cheaper timing and your members would have a more accurate and realistic view of their achievement. Whilst you have a flat rate to help manage an event, it is not the true cost of your involvement as all your members ride at a discounted entry fee, a substantial discounted fee! In fact as an organiser the easiest way to maximise revenue would be to attract as many non members as possible ! Somehow all of this seems convoluted to me and whilst I don't doubt your motives, I'm sure there is a more fair and inclusive way of doing things!
  21. Icycling - as a cycling business operator you surely have a vested interest in the growth in numbers of active cyclists. As such it makes good business sense to be involved in any organisation that promotes such growth including sitting and serving on committee's. As a cyclist I appreciate the work you and others are doing, but think that the PPA is making a huge mistake by using what appears to be coercive methods to gain members. As previously mentioned had (constructive) correspondence with Karin Pohl part of which included this; Thank you for your comments; it is always good to get feedback from both members and non-members, and relooking the services offered to cyclists is an ongoing process. We’ll certainly look at making our project funding and other initiatives more public. Yes, you need to do about 5 events per year to justify the cost of PPA membership. I copy from the previous email: Non-members/visitors who wish to ride in seeded start groups, are welcome to (and many do) join PPA for the day, in order to receive a seeded number so that they can start in the seeded start groups. As far as the winner is concerned: That will be the first person across the line, and you are entirely correct that the first person wearing a transponder may not be the same person at MTB events. Having said that, most of the PPA events are funrides and are listed as such on the CSA calendar, and as such the organisers may offer only hampers and/or lucky draws and not offer prize money, unless there is a specific licensed racing category (like the road riding leagues). We are, however, investigating a MTB league series and have been talking to WP MTB in this regard.
  22. +1 For the life of me also can't understand why PPA members don't add voice to the issue of timing. How do you measure yourself against the other competitors when they are not being timed? Surely you would like to compete against the whole field! Had a long email exchange once with PPA head and whilst I have to concede they do an enormous amount (check out their website)for promoting and developing cycling it seems to me they are in the process of poisoning their well, by being just plain obstinate. Coercion stinks big time!!!!
  23. I have been very happy with my Garmin but don't think I will buy again or recommend it to anyone else.If something goes wrong with the unit internally, you have to bin it, as the agent will not open it up. Apparently it has been hermetically sealed and can therefore not be opened - so if the battery dies it means a new unit!!! Not Ayoba
