  1. Did it with a mate too... course was kinda cool - a proper Tour of Durban and surroundings! Some idiot drivers, who got frustrated with the "full road closures", but in general most people behaved. Organisation at the start left a little to be desired, but the atmosphere out on the ride was phenomenal !! Haven't had that much fun in a road race for a while! Well done Stu and team... keep the "new route" for next year.
  2. Accident happened just behind me... we were travelling around a left hand corner. Taxi wasn't really doing anything untoward, perhaps a little tight on the white line, but shouldn't have been a problem... next thing... Actually thought two cars had collided! Couldn't believe it was a bike and car! Great news the gent is OK, didn't look good at the time at all.
  3. geax sanguaro on the front.. rolls well and pretty grippy
  4. Can anyone give me some advice on a road wheelset for a heavier rider... I am 120kg+ and put a little stress on the wheelset. My LBS has suggested Mavic Open Pro 32spoke onto an ultegra hub.. Any thoughts and comments?
  5. racing ralphs have problems in mud as do crossmarks
  6. Geax Saguaro works well enough for a fast rolling tyre... Kenda Nevegal should work a treat, but rides like a tractor tyre... but you can't beat for grip and cornering ability!
  7. I would like to change my RC6000 to a compact crank... currently it has a 105 crank with octalink. I have a ceramic hollowtech BB with external bearings lying in the garage (long story) and was wondering whether I would be able to use this to upgrade the road bike with a hollowtech 105 crank? Possible? Easy?
  8. Tx Johan, cable tension and frame bottom out - nope... Removed the FD and noticed when the screw is loosened, the FD tends to push out... cleaned the surfaces (a little dirty) and tightened up... works a treat now. Don't think it was dirt related, just not tightened up properly. Problem solved.
  9. The Superfly has a BB95 press fit bearings... and the change was perfect before the bike went in for service. I also know the guys pulled the FD off for cleaning. Will check spacers tho.
  10. You get adaptors for each brake size... I am a large guy 120kg+ and 185mm avids are more than enough in the front and 160mm rear. Need to balance off weight versus stopping power.. also you can have too much stopping power and end up being catapulted over the bars if you are not careful... horses for courses.
  11. I have recently started having problems with my direct mount FD on my GF Superfly 100. It is impossible to shift into granny gear from the middle chainring. There is no real problem when double shifting from the 42t ring into granny. I have checked the L and H screws and they are not preventing the change.. this happened after a service and my thoughts are that perhaps the FD needs to be dropped down a fraction to allow the cage to get a bit more bite on the chain... any ideas?
  12. tx scott - will give it a go
  13. I am looking for ideas with respect to gearing on a road bike... (compact crank isn't an option) I have a 9sp 105 raleigh RC4500 from a time gone past... I would like to look at a 11-28'ish type... would a SRAM PG950 be compatible or perhaps an XT/LX/Deore MTB cassette?
