  1. Morning all, Happy Thursday. I have an interesting / funny story to add to this problem. I am getting 2 of my friends into the sport, and they are getting better. a few weekends ago we all went for a ride, and one of my friends, just before the end of the ride picked up a tube in his wheel, and had to untangle it. cursing the idiot who had left the tube there he removed it and littered the tube then him self When we stopped to regroup, he told me of the problem he had experienced, i told him that he should have kept the tube to throw it away. it was at this point he noticed that his saddle bag was open and all his stuff was missing, the tube he discarded was infact his own tube, and he had to go back and fetch the tube.
  2. Morning all, So i want to tell you all how yet again i have been amazed with the service my bike recieved from Complete Cyclist. I have full XT on my bike and always thought how amazing the gear changes were, and how easy it was. They have never worked on this bike till this service. Well now i know what XT is supposed to change like, FKN amazing. THANX Tim & Team, great service.
  3. Afternoon, From this post i went adn dnld'd the app, and it works awesomely. Thanx for the advice. I love how you can track your distances and averages over all your rides.
  4. Morning, I wish we could have these here in SA. I recon PMB could do it, they have some awesome down hill areas. It would be through residential, but what ever. Lets jump fences.
  5. Its really good to see there are places that are giving most of us good service. Its not all doom and gloom for us poor people without the ocean. What things make us want to go back to a shop? The way they treat you as we enter The way they communicate with us, the customers? Being able to fix a small item if you just walk in and have not booked it in? Pricing? quality of service, and making sure a test ride is done? im just fishing for conversation here, hope fully shop owners are listening and can try see what we like? Happy Monday all!
  6. Sorry, im talking mainly about the JHB stores as it seems the Cape Town stores actually care.
  7. Thats exactly what we want, we need more places like that. Just a question, howmany of the people reading this are shop owners, or have friends who are, and can let them know about whats happening here.
  8. There is a guy in Jukskei park who does a very decent job on bikes. Ill mail you his number, a pick-up and collection can be arranged. He does not stock parts, but does a very good job. He's been riding longer than i have been walking
  9. I was just looking on the website, and it has both JHB and CT on the website.
  10. I know this topic comes up all too often for us poor customers, that what i was trying to get going here a place where we can start pooling the information on out LBS and give the god shops more support and encorage the lesser shops to be more supportive of the new riders. DO they forget we all were new to the sport once!
  11. THis thread has come about after i have been dropped by a few shops, and have eventually come across a decent shop that i will be getting all my cycling equipment from. The Complete Cyclist in Randburg helped my wife out just before the half ironman with a part i had ordered from another shop the week befre and they dropped us. So thanx to the complete cyclist for the help at the last minute. They have moved to main RD in randburg from on Peter Place
  12. Off to a cracking start, with lots of valuable input
  13. Afternoon World, So i want to start this topic to have a place where we can all compare experiences at our LBS (Local Bike Shop), this is not only to slate places that have not given us the service we would like but also to name places that have given us good service, and have gone beyond the expected to help fellow cyclists out.
  14. So Sewanee you were right. They have just called to say that they have a loan shock for me to use till the Rock Shock gets sorted. You are also right that it is not a MERIDA issue but rather a Rock Shock issue.
  15. is your issue with Merida or Dunkeld Cycling though? My issue is with Dunkeld. I have been trying to speak to Derrick, he's not answering his phone, sure he is a busy man. I have explained the urgency, and they were very apologetic, and said it was embarrassed, but why then have they not done anything all day on it this time round. the bike was there at 8:30am.
  16. Yeah it is sad. I will be getting a better bike, but not till I have got lots of use out of the bike I bought. Its great bike, and I enjoy riding it so see no reason to get a new one just yet. If only Dunkeld would help resolve the issue better than they have done so far.
  17. Afternoon all, So I want to share an experience I am still going through with my bike. I bought a Marida TFS 500 in March this year, love the bike, and subsequently got my wife a HFS 1000 to ride on. I know my bike is an entry level bike, and have every intention of upgrading in time to come. The problem is that recently while riding, the lockout mechanism popped out of the shock. I send it to Dunkeld cycles where I bought the bike, as its a warranty claim. After waiting 2.5 weeks (till after the 94.7 MTB challenge) to get my bike back, I took it for the first ride this Sunday to go and support the roadies on the 94.7. On the ride to where I was going to support from (1.5km from home) I hopped off a pavement onto the tar, and the same thing happened again. So bike is back to Dunkeld cycles. I took it in this morning and was angry, but refrained from being the typical customer, and HOPED they would see the irritation in my problem, and try get it resolved a bit faster this time round. I called this afternoon to see what Cape Town has said about my problem. They have done nothing with the problem as yet......looks like ill be using my wife's bike for a lot longer. I called a friend who has been riding for quite some time, and his view was that if my bike was not worth R50 000, Dunkeld don't take me seriously, if this is the case, why do they sell entry level bikes? Has anyone else had a problem with shock lockout mechanisms popping out? How do I get this resolved, and NO upgrading the shock now is not an option.
