  1. the organisers confuse them because they don't read what you can do with a csa membership or a domestic racing license. how more clearer can they make it. RTFS as they say in the classics.
  2. will the event be sanctioned by CSA , if not and you are paying prize money who will verify the results as being correct?
  3. i did a bit of scratching around , this was lifted off UCI Gravel World Series Bikes Riders may use any type of bike (road bike, mountain bike, city bike, hybrid bike, cross bike, etc.) with the exception of tandem or recumbent bikes. time trial road bikes are also forbidden. During the UCI Gravel World Championships, all bikes should have dropped handlebars. It’s not possible to participate in the UCI Gravel World Championships with a mountain bike.
  4. my understanding : marshals are there to warn traffic of an event taking place. cyclists should know the route and be directed by route markers. if cyclists are required to stop by traffic signs / signals then a traffic official must be be placed there to stop traffic and the marshals should be there to assist. marshals should not be at a turn or intersection waving flags and cheering on the participants but metres away from the turn to warn motorists of the event.
  5. and i know marshals are ideal, but difficult on a limited budget. aren't marshals a prerequisite for event permission. Marshals aren't there to direct riders they are there to control traffic but i suppose for 'gravel' maybe their job description differs. i asked the question earlier in the thread, what was entry fee? if you had 500 entries and if other event entry fees are anything to go by then you turned over some serious bucks. i'm interested in taking part in gravel races , do the GRAVEL race rules allow for Mtb's , if so , is this not contrary to the spirit of gravel racing? all the best for 2024
  6. just for interest sake as i am thinking of entering gravel bike races. what was the entry fee , are mtb and gravel bikes mixed in the same groups as well as E Bikes?
  7. CSA will tell you to sanction - they will never tell not to sanction - UCI calls these events 'ride for all' , here PPA call them 'fun rides' , CSA call them community / club event. it will cost a few 100 bucks which will be cheaper than a lawyer.
  8. register on the csa portal as an event organiser - fill in all the details of the event - and select it as a regional or club event with less than 200 entrants, i think it is a class E event. the rules & regs state you can appoint your own 'race officials' and determine the starting order. rather tick all the boxes than have a rider sue you for loss of earnings for staging an unsanctioned event. you also need to apply to the local event office and comply ito all their criteria. the local SAPS need to risk grade the event as well. anything can happen at any event , the onus is on the organiser to mitigate the risk. Murphy's Law
  9. was 'top secret' but over the years , coffee rides makes some tongues loose.
  10. i heard the PPA sold Racetec - but they couldn't tell me who bought it. mumbled something like 'old equipment, old technology etc etc
  11. i have a Cycleops powerbeam IDT and just recently the battery is showing 1 bar and i am unable to charge it - screen says 'charged' - i'm trying to find out who the agents are for Cycleops.
  12. from what i understand , the csa license gives you a certain amount of medical cover if you don't have your own.
  13. HKGK - 'the top riders aged 17 - 29 who do not qualify for the elite race'. what is the criteria to qualify? or what description do they use for those that fulfill the criteria? 250 in a bunch , hope every one is CSA licensed or have their own medical aid.
  14. is this event going to be sanctioned by CSA?
  15. weeding between the lines - the number of entries are dropping at an alarming rate year by year, he ,2 Oceans Ultra relies on the entries fees of the half to be sustainable - it's my opinion the CTCT is going the same way. for the last 40 years they haven't worried about newcomers, families and youth riders not being able to complete the long distance. so why now?
