  1. Re your bunch etiquette, left or right , it depends on the direction of the wind, the pointy end of the front of the bunch should in the direction of where the wind is coming from. There's only 1 reason why a rider should be moving up and that is to work and if that's the case then move up on the side which is protected from the wind
  2. i remember this going down with the events in Gauteng re ASG. from my memory the Td Boland was replaced by T of Good Hope under ASG on the calendar ie the events took place at the same time and in the same region / area. very unethical. The td Boland still continues but as a social event (i think). the T Good Hope became the Tour d Cap due to the ASG entity that ran the TGH being 'wound up' and reinvented itself in another form. i always scratch my head when i see events opening entries for the next years as soon as the current event finishes. my head says cash flow constraints but my heart says 'oh that's nice'.
  3. 30 year old technology ,it's meant to make your pedaling stroke smoother and more efficient. I had a Panasonic bicycle back in the day. Big blade had a sticker on it 'Biopace'
  4. Spot on, but every man, women and their dogs are sponsored, they get selected and refuse to wear your value for money provincial kit/colours. Make the elite champs open and allow the pros to bring a few foreign teammates. Impose provincial competition on the veterans and youth categories
  5. Hit the nail right on the head
  6. Referring to the gravel race. 2nd finished 1st on FTime, 1st placed was 1st on podium, 2nd placed was 2nd on podium then swopped with 3rd placed rider who finished in 3rd a few bike lengths back.
  7. I see there were musical chairs at the podium presentation. No line judges? Why
  8. The 'live chat' on the XOSS website wanted a video of the charging status , video of non pulsing battery image sent and 'it' replied 'sorry out of warranty'. the item was purchased in July 2023 from Cycle Lab. i suggested to the 'live chat' that i had a dud and that they should at least stand by the quality of their products by replacing it. 😒 needless to say the 'live chat' died a quick death. any other suggestions for a wireless cyclo computor
  9. My XOSS G+ which is just over a year old is no longer charging - the supplier no longer stocks the item other that it's accessories (which must now be obsolete). they say the computor is out of warranty which is understand. Omnico are in the same position ie they only supplying obsolete stock ie cadence and HR accessories. any ideas? i'm wondering if XOSS themselves will answer my emailed query
  10. what doesn't work, are the peeps parking outside - hence no more events starting and finishing in St-bosch
  11. we lucky to have a 1 tonner this year. thanks to the parking behaviour of cyclists in general, very few venues / and associated parties want a cycle race in their area.
  12. VID-20240813-WA0001.mp4 The Chappies fence climbers are at it again.
  13. is anyone here familiar with the structure of the Department of Transport western cape, especially who decides which department is responsible for traffic control at events.
  14. if an Ebike is capable of speeds in excess of 25 kph then they are required to be licensed to ride on a public road in the UK - is this true? seems a bit over the top
  15. 😀i like it, their actions are premeditated i.o.w they have a lookout peering down Marine Drive looking for flashing lights. when sighted 'the ambush party' is alerted. something has to give, those that live there are desperate. if they aren't removed the attacks will continue unless someone or something deters them. i know of a rider who was attacked there late last year. he 'carries' and has been itching to use it. he says about 10 perps jumped him and a friend very early ie 530am during the working week. knocked him off the bike but fled when Dirty Harry emerged.
  16. i did a bit of scratching around https://www.2oceansvibe.com/2020/06/05/if-your-e-bike-goes-faster-than-45km-h-you-might-need-a-license/ on another note , if event organisers ignore the dedicated EBike category and deristriction inspections , do they open themselves up to being sued by spectators or participants who are injured by a rider using an derestricted ebike.
  17. how do organisers police Ebikes that have their 'governing chip' removed. there are conversations doing the rounds after a recent seeding event where some results were questioned in an event that had no E Bike dedicated category. i was just thinking , i wouldn't like to be hit by an out of control 20kg Ebike at 25kph never mind 1 going down a hill even faster. Cycling regulations state that the bike may not be tampered with and altered in any way.
  18. i can't remember if last year was my 30th or it will be this year and the PPA won't tell me. i've done a sub 3 , ridden with my son and then with my daughter and now it's just my Sunday ride that costs a buck or 2. i just ride to enjoy and survive the mad dash from Cape Point Gate to Soetwater. Small Chappies tells you straight away if Suikerbossie will be pleasant. BTW , i have avoided collecting my number from the Expo for about 10 years , i can't handle all those expectant stares from stall holders and i thought the GHC as a mental asylum with only 1 route to walk to get out.
  19. couldn't agree with you more - organisers aren't a volunteer organisation raising funds for a charity etc. they organise for their pocket. i'll bet my bottom dollar most of their vendors or support structures are locals from the area.
  20. has anyone entered? i was listening to the radio today , lots of adverts urging people to enter before the end of January
  21. the entire cycle path stretching from CT to Melkbos is an well thought through abortion.
  22. agree but SAPS knows what will stick and what won't. the constable must 'sell it' to the detective who must sell it to the prosecutor based on evidence. my son and friend were involved 1 Sunday morning with a motorist. they had his reg nr , i called their bluff and said, if they feel so stongly about the abuse and near miss at the traffic lights, lets go the SAPS. 1 hour later they were loaded into the van and i followed in my car to the address that linked the reg nr to the address. 'he said, you said' is what followed but at least it gave the driver and his wife a lekker big skrik on a Sunday morning and the youngsters were able to get their point of view across without it escalating into a brawl.
  23. cyclists on the Big Bay Melkbos cycle path need to yield to motorists exiting the estates(there are signs stating that). the stop sign is for motorists who are the entering the 'beach road'. they don't need to stop for you (but in my experience they do)
  24. go to SAPS and tell them you don't have enough evidence to lay a charge but you have all the perps details. suggest to them to accompany you to visit the perp , they will more than likely love to get out of the office and make the visit with you.
  25. totally agree - incorporate intervals into your training. also improve your core - google core workouts for cyclists - it works. find out what works when you do cramp on the bike - i move back or bit forward on the saddle and/or pinch the skin above your lip but below your nose(don't laugh). chew Rennies.
