  1. Well Hakahana is now closed. The sad thing is that since we started running enduro races over the past 6 years, there have been over 700 unique entries... but there were hardly any more than 100 riders at any enduro race. So ultimately it's the enduro crowd who have let it die. I've spent a lot of time housesitting Haka and there were weekends where zero riders pitched up. Johan still had to pay salaries to the guys to open up the trails... it just becomes unsustainable. I may have a few ideas to get an enduro series in Gauteng going again... possibly sometime in the future.
  2. Great. Johan is busy remarking all his routes.
  3. Sorry if I didn't see you. I was taking guys around almost constantly. Did you find your way around the course?
  4. Changing from solo to team category then?
  5. Will see you then.
  6. Great stuff. Hope to see you there. We are busy organising a party of note. Looks like the live band will be there all day. I'm working on the map at the moment and will post it a little later. Why don't you join on the weekend and I'll show you around some of the new flowing singletrack we've built...
  7. I wouldn't worry too much about weight. My 15.4kg Pyga 140 pedalled just fine over the Berg & Bush Great Trek averaging nearly 19 km/h on day 1 over the 99km route. ...with flat pedals
  8. Many of you know me as the guy who helps design the hectic enduro stuff at Hakahana. Yes, that's true but there is a complete other face of Hakahana Trails which not many riders have seen. For the 12 hour we have designed a 5km route for any level MTBer combining some old rarely used trails around the Hakahana trailhead perimater, added some of the existing green route and built more custom trail - linking bits together. We have also smoothed out a flowing green trail which runs parallel to the enduro descent to eliminate the hectic drops and jumps. The fast, experienced XC or trail riders will be able to race down the fun black or red sections while the rest will happily flow down the green descent. Some photos from work done so far. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_094525_zpsxcwgu8td.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_094516_zps3fnxv0y7.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_093446_zpszjus7gba.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_092400_zps4drueaws.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/20161124_093436_zps1pj0viks.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20161124-WA0006_zpstqjxrska.jpeg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20161124-WA0004_zpsogjrvkro.jpeg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG-20161124-WA0002_zpsil9qfdu1.jpeg Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th will be a full practice weekend where you can scope the course and see what it's all about. A few of us will be available to show you around the route. Just remember entries close at midnight on the 12th.
  9. No one has to buy the 9 series carbon guide. Nothing wrong with the 3 series guides for less than half that price. I have the 6 series on my bike. You know where you can find all the cSixx stuff...
  10. Wasn't racing for a time. Was racing licensed vets and the time is just a result of getting into the break group near Teazers . Then being dropped going up Main Rd (near what is now PWC bike park). Recovering and joined a couple of guys going up around the zoo. Finding a tandem there which pulled me all the way down to Kyalami so fast we nearly caught the breakgroup. Finished at 8h30 - it was still a bit chilly.
  11. It's all in the training dude. At 85kgs I did a sub 2:30 back in the day when it was a harder race than it is today.
  12. Hmmm... did you also measure them? http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd175/Seanf1art/20160914_093410_zpsf70s1dpu.jpg The Saints platform measures wider but will also be wider on the bike in terms of Q factor.
  13. Saints are slightly wider.
  14. Absolutely. Fortunately there are a couple of suppliers who we get from. If only we could find decent entry level flats. I must admit that in this case I taught a skills session and two students grabbed Five Tens and DMR's afterwards.
  15. Nearly forgot about them. The DMR's are cool ... we got some in last week and all sold out, Ordered a few more and sold half of that the day i arrived before I'd even booked them in.
