  1. Hi Everyone, I am of the opinion that it is impossible for weather apps to be 100% accurate. Which one do you trust most when planning rides, to decide to ride or not. I have missed many rides because AccuWeather "said" it's gonna rain halfway into the ride.
  2. The holes on my FSA stem is wider apart, 38mm. And could not find a mount locally that would fit. I bought a Forza mount from a BH user, only to realize the problem once arrived.
  3. Ordered a GARMIN stem mount for a FSA stem. Could not find anything locally. I have family in both UK & Aus and both could assist, but would've cost me about R1600. On temu my wife bought me the mount for R271(incl duties.) It arrived last week, perfect fit and very sturdy. I even used the longer stem bolts - seems to be good quality and good threading, but I am contemplating replacing them with maybe S/S or titanium. Not that it is needed at this stage, just a precaution. I will update should anything fail on this.
  4. Sorry, I agree. Let me rephrase (trying my best English here ) , A gun (or any weapon for that case) primary function should not be to de escalate. If you draw and they run, you win, if they advance on you and you fire, you win. But I think you get my point here...
  5. I carry when me and the wife is out in the sticks. When we hit the road and we are in group (+- 15 riders) I will not because you are less likely to be a target. Remember, they want easy money !!! I have attended many SD courses covering countless scenarios one can land up in. A GUN IS NOT INTENDED TO BE USED TO DE-ESCALATE A SITUATION. If your life, or that of a third party, is threatened then any force can be used to defend that life. Lethal force is not permitted to defend property under SA law, but the law is very clear when it comes to protecting life in a life-threatening situation. You need to be prepared both physically and mentally for eventualities. There are many good instructors in SA that can assist with all physical aspects in self/private defence situation to always ensure you remain within the laws, but only you can prepare yourself on the mental level.
  6. Awesome read, thanks for sharing. What a way to solidify a marriage. Baie geluk julle !!!!
  7. Yes, agree with Thuli When I upgraded my groupset on my mtb it initially started out that the chainring I wanted was not in stock, he told me that he will source it and will let me know as soon as he can find one. The next day I got a wapp from him telling me that he found one to be in stock at another branch and that it's on its way to him. 24hr later got a message again telling me that it is with him and that I should bring my bike in. Even during the building process got photos from him with my bike on the workbench being worked one, and message to collect when it was ready. Guess I'm then just one of the lucky ones...
  8. CL - Boksburg is basically my lbs. I have done two massive price matches with them this year, saving me a good couple of 1000's. In both situations I had absolutely no issue. Over the last two years I have spent good money with them on a whole range of items, new bikes, services, upgrades, etc. And not a single complaint thus far. I have only received friendly service from their whole team, even on some occasions advised not to buy certain items because I can use something else that will do the same job that is cheaper. I have dealt with Werner, Jolene and Mark, and a great thumbs-up from me.
  9. For the price of these bibs one can almost get your lawyer involved to handle it.
  10. I've only received good service from CycleLab in Boksburg. You can speak to Mark in their service department.
  11. Male, 39 1.78m 84kg (lost 9kg since Jan 2024 - mainly by significantly cutting alcohol intake. I still enjoy a good red & beer occasionally) Enjoy my red meat, chicken, game meat & a good wood fire pizza. Coffee black - strong, no sugar. Aim is to get to 79kg and then keep it there. 55 Roadbike L Mtb Size 10 shoe, medium kit
  12. One piece of advise I got when I started cycling, first mtb'ing, and also applied the same thought process when I recently started my journey in road riding....is the following : "If you need a R100k+ bike, you will be given one, you will not need to buy it." Basically, upgrade as and when your abilities outperform your equipment. Extra cash becomes very useful for getting proper kit and maybe some tech.
  13. My first ever road race with the wife Emperors Road Classic. Only did the 48km to test the waters, I couldn't really find a bunch on the route that I could ride with, so this is basically a solo effort. I was fun and felt like I had many more watts left in the legs at the end, my pacing strategy didn't work out due to my conservative nature, but I'm sure this will improve.
  14. My only goal will be to finish & have no incidents or cause any. I do have the legs & lungs to ride for a very long time in the red. I will only see on the day. Putting at least 8-10hrs per week in + other training as well at the moment. Have some MTB background, so I am pretty used to grinding and transferring frustrated feelings to the pedals. The wife will moer me if I get her an E-Bike, she just got her Orbea and she is as tuff as leather, the only thing I struggle with her is to get her to break through her own pain barrier occasionally. Guess she just needs some mental guidance.
  15. Hell-no....It took way too long to get the current one trained.
