  1. First Time for us Marshalling this race, I have to agree that it was dangerous at some places and we tried our best to ensure every cyclists safety on the road. It is not always possible to look after everyone as logic will depict. The field was stretched out across the whole route which made it difficult to patrol certain sections. We also had to jump off the motorcycles and do points duty in some of the intersections to get the traffic flowing, this while metro was standing under the trees and having conversations with the locals. Thanks to everyone that participated. We did mention to the organizers to look at a different route next year and hopefully we will be involved a bit more in the route planning as they indicated that they will use us again in the future.
  2. The Lido 40km Ride is Marshalled every Saturday by the Helivac Marshals. You can enjoy your ride without worrying about your safety. We look after all the cyclists on that route. Start at 07:30 with the ride on the corner of Swartkoppies and Kliprivier roads, Alberton. You can leave your car at Rietvlei. We have marked the 40km route from the start to finish, displaying on the road surface, distance remaining. We are working on a longer route of about 90km, we should have it marked out soon. Hope to see you there.
  3. @helivacmarshalsSo today we Marshalled the Gauteng North Road and Time Trail at Rooiwal Pretoia. We were about 10 Marshals on the route looking after the cyclists.... All went well without incident, but I have to state that being involved in cycle marshalling, I am ashamed that there are still cyclist that think they own the road at cycle events. I marshalled the Elite Ladies and Mens, what an undiciplined bunch..Not moving over to the left when told to do so...and then swearing at me when I pushed you left with the bike. All this from a group that was no bigger than 20 cyclists. I allowed you to race using the whole road, but when traffic apeared from the front, I politely asked you to move back to the left...Is that for my safety of yours?? Man oh man, I am really dissapointed. You know what, we dont make money out of this, in fact, we do this totally voluntary. Getting up at 04:30 to come look after you at 07:00. My own bike, my own fuel, my own time....sheezz.... Come on guys....
  4. Well, we use our own bikes to Marshal the Cyclist around. We have plenty a Marshal on a Superbike. For more info, you can mail me on bikemarshall1@helivac.co.za
  5. Please note that the Lexus Vehicle is no longer manned by an Paramedic. The Paramedic is now on duty with the Helivac Motorcycle Marshals every Saturday from 07:00 on the Lido and Steps routes. It will either be an BMW or Audi A3 vehicle. The Paramedic can be reached by calling the Helivac Call Center on 0861 4354822. The Paramedic will be dispatched to your location immediately. If there is an Motorcycle Marshal close by, the Marshal shall call the vehicle to the location and assist with first aid until the Paramedic arrive. Please show your support by asking for a sticker from the Marshals at the start / finish.
