  2. Results anywhere?
  3. Went for a recce just now, bring your granny gear, a 3,7 km klimb in the beginning that will get the bloud flowing!
  4. Got a DNF in spite of finishing in 2h24 ish. I saw the guy making a note on his paper when i passed the finish. Not sure if the lad behind the computer was not giving attention. Not a big deal but somewhat disappointing, Still one of my favorite races though. Will probabably be better with more sponsors. Looking forward to next year.

How many races must you do before you get a seeding? I just done the Jacaranda Bestmed in 3h30, does that count at all? Where can you actually see your seeding index? I start in LL batch, was hoping for something slightly better with the 3h30
  7. Maybe not of much help to you but I pay the extra R600 and use DHL. I ordered last Tuesday and had the package delivered to me on Friday Morning, after of course paying the Tax to have it cleared by customs.
  8. Can the next race please start at 6, this one was HOT
  9. Hi, I'm in the city of roses this weekend, any good MTB or road rides out there? Club rides on Saterday, Sunday? I'm still figuring out whether to take the MTB or the roadie. All hints will be welcomed
  10. I've been outspoken about the issue as well, but the way BW brought in MC yesterday with an obvious risk to his own first place shut me up. They all had a job to do and the SKY team have done it superbly well. That being said, Chris is probably too talented to stay - what about a BIG SPONSOR from the lotto, co-sponsor the belgium lotto team. We can call it lotto-e-lotto. Most of the SA girls are there already.
  11. My Race Report: 1. Pre-race Organization 10/10 - Friendly faces greeting you from the turn-off at every corner. 2. Number collection 10/10 - A snap 3. Amenities 10/10 - Organized parking, ample entertainment, bike wash, bike goodies to buy, Breakfast roll !!!. 4. Course 7/10 - First 10 km (8/10) good variety, Second 10 (7/10)-Sand, then some sand and then realy sand. A lot of prep in this section to remove some sand but by the back track riders and 90k second pass it was raked to pieces.Nice rock garden in between! 3rd 10: (5/10) Would really like to do this one on a Sunday afternoon slow ride. For a race - too much of the same, a few fast flowing sections inbetween would have made a big difference. Last 15 (9/10) - fast flowing - few short turning surprizes inbetween. Makes for real racing. In general lots of pasing opportunity, except for the sand section (unless you can run well in the sand :-)) All in all - I will do this one again - this time I'm going in with 1.3 to 1.7 bar on the wheels. Some suggestions - 1. Incorporate a 20 and a 10 on the race day, that way everybody can participate on race day 2. Some more variety in section 2 and 3 (maybe cut in sections under the power grid) 3. Organize a good winter thunderstorm day before racing. In conclusion - when a golf course has no bunkers, better believe there are serious trees, a MTB race without any ascent - expect a surprize! Thanks to ASG and Sondela - well done! PS: 61st in 45km - 2h23:50 - damn I hate it when there is no Master Category :-)
  12. Well it's not, I have the GPS track with time at 2h13:12 - i did start it late by about 30 s while my listed time is 2h33:28
  13. Who do you contact if there is a n error, I started in H and was timed E?
  14. Thx Guys - contacted Johan and made an appointment for Monday next.
  15. Anybody you can recommend in the Joburg North or PTA area that specializes in servecing Fox Shocks, it leaks a bit of oil.
  16. +1 Indeed awesome!
  17. Super Course - But seriously, it now needs proper batching. The notion that if you are not in front you deserve to walk the first part of the race due to bottle necks does not cut it for me.
  18. I have the 2011 26 SJ, still new to it though. You can set the amount of travel and the stiffness on the front fork. I've been told by the Spez mech that the idea is to set and forget, not a lock out fork per se. Riding experience? I'm always surpriced afterwards when I look at the amount of travel used, during the ride it does not feel that much. Wide open it bobs in the front if you get out of the saddle but then I never need to, it climbs like a mountain goat in any terrain. In the back with the brain it feels very solid, cannot feel any bob even at a soft setting. Racing, don't worry, you will catch them on the downhill. That's if you don't swallow a bug first because of the permanent smile on your face!
  19. Never saw that tweet
  20. The Silver Jeep!
  21. I ride there regularly. Most of times there are many cyclists, runners and even walkers with dogs. Most people stick to the tar but I find the single-track routes quite nice. It is now totally fenced in and I have not seen any signs of sleepers anywhere. I saw last week that they have errected a big electric fence between the golf club and cc. I recommend the following route to beginners - as you come in from the east, turn sharp left immediately and stick to the fence, eventually you will get to the bottom gate. I've seen Blouwildebeest, Zebra and Impala on this route regularly. The more people using the single track the saffer it is going to be!
  22. I've done this race yesterday in a two man team with my son. Some comments: 1. Very nice format- almost like formula 1 with the teams lining the road 2. Small field - I would guess less than 75 in the field 3. Some fierce racing between the race snakes with the top mixed team giving all but the winning mens team carrots. 4. OK course - mostly gravel road next to public road and some jeep track - 7 odd km per round. 5. Price (R400 plus R100 for entry on the day) a rip-off, even with a complimentary boerie. 6. Race was well organized I'm wondering, is the race so small because it is so expensive or is it so expensive because it is a small race?
  23. Did you find a rider yet?
  24. Thanks all for the feedback. The point of the discussion is that the organizers, who also read this thread, thinks about how to price an event. To answer my own question: 1. R150 is fair for a well organized event. 2. I would like to see junior and family/group discounts. 3. Goody bags are sponsored items and adds little value for me. 4. MTB/Road racing is not price insensitive, you want to grow your event, make it more affordable. 5. I really think we are in a priviled and spoiled position with the number of races offered. A big thank you to each and everybody taking on the task of organizing a race. 6. Hopefully more and more businesses are going to see the commercial value of biking and invest in it. 7. If I had more saFe areas to cycle I would probably enter less races. We need to lobby more to get such places. Happy Racing
