  1. what does this equate to time-wise? Some classes are 1 1/2 hours as opposed to 45 mins, and then u get the occasion when there are 2 classes after each other (a 45 min then a 1 1/2 hr one) when you can go hard in th efirst, or use it as a warm up, then go hard in the 2nd bit or time-trial to the music... I go to one in Gardens that has exactly that - helluva good workout, and led by a cyclist...
  2. I aggree - spinning is a great way to get in that training you just can't do because of work or k4k weather like we've been having in CT these past 3 days... But it's no substitute for the road! Do it during the week, but bring the bike out on the weekend for a long haul. Or just bike to work...
  3. Hey man, I don't know but i can't say that his mammie's bunny bunny is something else ekse... gives you one times shot in the rear! Not even his mammie's mango chutney could make you hundreds again!
  4. yeah, he's from Kokstad. His Argus wasn't the best either... lost a bottle in the first half and didn't stop to re-fill his other one. Still came 2nd in the group though. He's a stubborn little kid, I'll give you that!
  5. shot guys - cleared up a few things for the guy & us less experienced around here. I was under the impression he DID start with grp A (non-elite, open seeded) which was where my confusion came in... so apologies if my confusion was passed on to anyone else. At least he knows now what to do in the future! And Pantani, you're right - he's gonna be friggin fast one day not to far away!
  6. Pantani, all this is just based around my mate's experience, and my question on his behalf - no need to get into a shouting match about it. However, if you're not sure about something, just ask... that was the whole point of the post in the first place. Shot for the input tho guys...
  7. cool... so there was either an errant official, or they put him where he wasn't supposed to be. Which is sad, cos now his first Tour D'urban was ruined. But just come back harder next time...
  8. no, he def did the 105, and as for his start bunch, he had no say in it at all. He started with grp A...
  9. I thought as much... As for his license status, he is pretty much like the average person - would rather pay R75 or whatever it is for a bog standard UCI cyclosport license, rather that paying anywhere between R10 and R30 for an on-the-day. Having said that, he does not belong to a UCI "category" as he does not have a team, sponsorship etc to make that economically viable. And as for the seeding on the day - Pantani, get all the info before you spout, or read properly - he wasn't going to be able to mix it with th eA group - it's only his 2nd race if u don't count Sani 2 c, and he tried to get re-seeded. They wouldn't even let him START in a later group. Now where's the logic in that? However, I do agree that the more time he spends with ppl better & faster than him, the better he's going to get.
  10. Hey guys - i have a gripe... Mate of mine (18 yr old rookie cyclist, but sub 3 Argus rider) was seeded in grp A for the Tour, and got dropped after 20 km, cos he's just not fast enough to stay with them yet. He tried to hook on to the following grp (Grp B, i assume) and was given a tongue lashing by some official to the effect that if he didn't get out of the grp, he would be dq'd. He didn't want to raise a fuss, or face the poss of dq'ing, so he dropped off and joined grp C. Cue tongue lashing number 2... He eventually had to ride by himself for the most of the race, but caught someone else in the same situ as him, facing "disqualification" if he joined a group other than his own due to puncture, being dropped, etc. Now, to me, it is perfectly legit to join the next grp if u can't stay with yours for whatever reason. Isn't it? Surely it is. How can a race be run like this? Please, tell me how? This guy still rode a sub 3, but had his vision of a perfect race ruined, and on his first outing to boot.
