  1. Valuable advice - thanks Something relative newbies like me don't often consider.
  2. Hi Hubbers Seem to have caught a minor case of "upgrade-itis"... looking to move up from the standard Shimano R500's which came along with my ride when I bought it. Did a bit of web research and would like to hear what your opinions are on the following wheelsets (all are in approximately the same price bracket): Fulcrum Racing 3 Mavic Ksyrium Elite Easton EA 90 SL Experiences with these? Have read that the Eastons had some problems with snapping spokes, although I tip the scales at just less than 60kg so am guessing that this shouldn't be too much of an issue. Thanks in advance. Keep those pedals turning!
  3. LOL guys! Thanks a bunch for the advice - and restoring my sanity! Was thinking along the same lines re. wheelset, but guess my enthusiasm got the better of me... (p.s. Bob, tip the scales at a pretty nifty 57kg, but a trainer is definitely on my wishlist)
  4. Hi Hubbers Needing a bit of advice... I bought a Silverback Strela Concept about 2 months ago. Having loads of fun riding it, esp. since upgrading from a heavy alloy frame. Problem is that I've recently become the recipient of a wholly unexpected little salary bonus, which means that getting the bike which I was initially eyeing (but which was out of my price range) is now a possibility - a Giant TCR Compisite 1 (Ultegra components etc). Would it be worth swopping over to the Giant, or should I think about keeping the Silverback? What about a Silverback Space 2? Any opinions would be most welcome?
  5. Found a very simple solution to the "frozen hands" problem... cut a old road bike tube into approx. 8cm sections and slide these over the CO2 cartridge - the rubber is a great insulator and will protect your fingers. Most tyres have some sort of powder on the inside which makes it even easier to do this.
  6. IMHO, the only way for us to gain the respect of motorists is by steadfastly obeying the rules of the road... stop at traffic lights and intersections, use hand signals, cycle in single file whenever possible etc. Sure, many motorists don't obey the rules either, but the pot-calling-the-kettle-black argument has never been of any use... Dedicated cycle lanes outside of the big cities are still a very distant reality so cyclists and motorists will have to share the road for a long time to come. Just this morning I was berated and given "the finger" by a fellow cyclist for stopping at a red traffic light... Unfortunately it is such nincompoops who give us all a bad name. Sometimes a wave and thanks-for-waiting-for-me-to-pass does the world of good.
  7. C'mon guys, just my opinion. Like I said, credit where credit is due. Of course everyone's experience will be different... and nope, I am not in the employ of any cycle store whatsoever.
  8. Far too seldom these days one gives credit where credit is due... Made the jump up to carbon and bought a Silverback Strela Concept from Action Cycles in PE. From the outset the folks there have always been approachable, willing to assist, understanding, and never once tried to twist my arm into buying something more expensive than what I needed. A few weeks on the new bike and loving it, however I noticed a fine crack in the paint around one of the bottle cage attachments... Gave the Action Cycles guys a call, they took some pics and within two days I had a brand spanking new frame. Thanks for the positive service experience. Much, much appreciated!
