  1. Wow I see you posted 'hoax' twice here. Was going to ignore it. But I can kind of see why you may have thought it's a hoax. It ain't. I bought one 2ndhand via Karl Rost on here via Alpha Beta Cycles in Kimberly shortly after my last post. Wimpie the owner. Welcome to check with either of them. This is her:
  2. Thanks for weighing in bud. Yeah I know nothing about Titan carbon wheels. I see the hub is Titan too. Could you share any insight on why you don't like them? Of course I'm not expecting them to be in the league of the name brand carbon. But just like many are more than happy with Chinese carbons, this should be a solid rim. It's the hubs that I'm a bit worried about. But I should be able to replace just hub if need be right?
  3. Sram Rival - 105 equivalent. So I'm happy with that! Current bike is tiagra and had no issues with that so a step up. And this has the double tap which I prefer. Thanks for the comment
  4. Thanks I read both those off your site. And they were glowing reviews indeed. Just had no idea whether these were 'sponsored' reviews or not. Have called both your Jhb and Cpt offices a couple of times now and had great chats with pleasant sales managers. Last chat, I was told that you made podium with the bike in the CT Cycle tour and SA Champs (iirc) and that tells me that your bike doesn't just look fast, it goes it too. I went into Solomons here in Durbs and was told that they had practically no warranty returns with any Titans over the years. And that it's owned by Cytek (distributor of Merida too) and that they're good, solid guys - happy to make a plan to help keep bikes on the road. Cyclelab said they've been very happy too and recommend without hesitation. So looking forward to picking one up soon. Cheers.
  5. Hiya Really keen on their new Valerian. Touted as an aero & climbing/race bike all in one. Seems to be superb value. Especially the one on Cyclelabs recent sale. The Elite. Disc, Sram rival, carbon wheels. Retails at r53k. On sale at 35 grand. 18k off. I called Titan. They based in Stellies. They're making their own moulds now. Claims this model should be around 4 years at least. Bike looks awesome. And I'd like to support local. Just no solid reviews yet. And worried that it may look fast but without the R&D budget of the big guns, it may not be all that good on the road. I'm just a medium level rider, not a racer. 45 y.o. but getting more serious and wanting to get into the peloton riding in the races (the relatively slower ones for now - sub 330) Would really appreciate any comments/insights.
  6. Yup indeed - asymmetry can look supercool, and this carbon wheel had looked killa as the rear on the SS but just not gelling as the front on this beast. Unfortunately. The creator of the frame, Vinorus, said maybe black (pref. bladed) spokes on the rear wheel may work with this wheel.. But that's an expensive experiment - that may not work. Yeh I do like the lots of spokes too - will keep that on the burner.. and leave this carbon wheel as a rear on another build..
  7. So I'd bought this SS bike off the Hub last year. Had a 26" carbon rear wheel. Turns out it's a rare SPIN MTB wheel from the 90s. Thought it may look very nice on this baby. But it'd have to be the front (rear is a 24") . So it would need a machinist. Before I go down that road, I want to make sure it'll gel well. So I just did a basic mount. That's how she looks. Any thoughts?
  8. The CREATOR has spoken! Yeh I loved the sleek look of the handlebars. To now know that Vinorus actually crafted them himself as well - they're going to stay. Update: most of the naff decals are off. New pedals should be here in a week. New saddle and grips going to take a while longer. Was going to go with brown leather saddle and grips as recommended - but Vinorus thought it'd be best to stick with the black scheme.. and I realised he's right - the brown would draw the eyes to the saddle and grips and they shouldn't be the focus! So after much trawling I found these: A black Electra saddle with gold motif. Off their 'Night Owl' cruiser. And these MHL leather grips Rockbros pedals
  9. Dayyyym you cats know your shiz! Aah so it's almost def. a Spin wheel. In this case may have been fitted to a Cannondale or a bike with a CODA crank or just had the decal added. OK Thanks chaps. Guess this means I'll have to find a machinist?
  10. Awesome! Thanks it most def looks like a SPIN rim. Seems like it's very rare these days - ones from 98 popping up on ebay for a few grand. All the more reason to get it fitted! I see TAG wheels made one that looked the same too - circa 2008. But they're no more. Oh it did have a decal on it - scraped away some of the black paint - I can't make head or tails of it - ring any bells?
  11. So I'd bought this singlespeed bike off the Hub a while ago with this 26" carbon rear wheel. I'm pimping up a cruiser I've got (see the Morewood cruiser topic under Build Projects) and want to make this the front wheel (can't do the back as it's a 24" x 3). A further problem is that the downhill fork has a 20mm through axle. I've been told that I'd probably need to take it past a machinist. If this is my only option, any recommendations around Durban? Could you identify the wheel? Or the hub? Have any ideas on how to make it fit? Cheers!
