  1. My My we are touchy' date=' I never singled you out as being aggressive, Nancy Drew's calmer answer to what was being said in this thread just made more sense to me. Woman, to me, generally have a much less aggressive reaction to such situations, sorry just my opinion.[/quote'] I agree that Nancy made a sensible comment. I just don't believe in collectives - so I think her sensible comment is as a result of her being a sensible person not because she happens to be a woman. But not offence taken - your entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. As cyclists we ride in packs, and unfortunately pack mentallity takes over. The bigger the pack the the more arrogant the pack become. In this situation its a collective attitude and not an individual one.
  2. Takes a woman to see the situation for what it is' date=' and not just respond with agression. [/quote'] There was no aggresion in my response eventhough I am not a woman. Implying that you have better judgement just because you are a woman is a collectivistic idiosyncrasy. You have hit the nail smack on the head & I would go so far as to say we are wrong most of the time! There's a thread on the motoring forum again on the same subject & frankly I kinda agree with them. There is no short term solution or quick fix, but untill cyclists as a whole change their attitude the problem will only perpetuate as more & more of us take to the roads. Cyclists as a whole will never change their attitudes, as individual people and not collectives have attitudes. Only through sensible legislation, education, adequate resourcing and enforcement, can we hopefully increase the generally level of adherence to the law over time. 3. I chased a click for three weeks only to find in the end it was the gear cables at the lugs on the down tubes. You cannot believe how noises travel through a frame sending you on some wild goose chases !!
  4. Thats me, one of the the miserable old men!!
  5. No more cyclists taking out lic just for early start then being dropped and overtaken by blue rinse grannies on shopping bikes. You better believe it and you must realise we are a bunch of real grumpy old men who barely tolerate each other never mind any outsiders who don't belong
  6. I've been in the game 35 years now, been on all the committies, done all the politics, and to me things just seem to go in circles, same ego's, same hidden agendas, nothing changes, who knows maybe oneday someone will get involved and change things for the good of the sport.....maybe......maybe......who knows!!
  7. You will be allowed to ride in the vets category if your seeding is good enough but not for provincials & nationals or SA champs.
  8. You only need the R300.00 racing licence if you intend doing SA's, nationals & provincials, otherwise the R75 cyclosport licence covers everything else. A reduction for most !!!
  9. Went from Shimano to Look Keo pedals,(Trade in offer) was a bad move but stuck with them for now
  10. Roders

    Muc Off

Looks like Prepsol in disguise to me !!!
  11. I've been using Muscle works (the internet shop) products for the past couple of months, besides being cheaper and very convenient, one never really knows if any if any of this expensive stuff we put in our bodies really works. Does anyone have an opinion or know how good the quality of their products are ?
  12. Its amazing how big & invicable a guy feels when he's in his car. A couple of weeks ago we were pushed of the road & sworn at by a couple of jerks who then sped off like real men would. Knowing reporting them to the revenue collectors would come to nought we traced them from the car reg. no. and paid them a visit one evening. They went from big men to sniveling little boys in seconds, the satisfaction was well worth it !!!
  13. They will be bringing out a complete new product range under the label "Campano" apparently the quality will be vastly improved on the existing campag stuff
  14. Love the humour
  15. Silly question, but just reading through this thread & seeing as you had the job done through your LBS, are you sure the job was done by cycle art ?
  16. Slave, once you master the longer cranks, with the 39 ring at front & 21 or 23 gear at the back you will spin that big climb in the reserve with ease, the magical number up there to aim for is 13 km/hr. Fitting a 39 ring at the front has got nothing to do with being girlie or woosie, its about getting up a climb as fast as possible without too much effort as there is always another climb coming to take that bit more out of the legs!!
  17. Slave, don't forget initially things probably wont feel right, the muscle's need to go through a bit of an adaption stage, so give it time, don't turf them after the first ride.
  18. To me the 39 ring is for emergency's, like getting up the steep climb in SBR. That is why I feel if Slave is set up properly He would have no need to change out of the 53 ring unless the gradiant really kicks skywards. Slave, I've hung on to a bunch up walkerville hill with Daryl Impey driving and saw 55km/hr !!
  19. Slave, I seem to remember you being pretty much my hight. If like me you like pushing bigger gears 170 cranks are no good for you. Walkerville hill should not even be climbed in small blade, 53/17 or 19 would be more like it. I Reckon you want 53/39 at the front and 11/21 or 11/23 for the odd serious climbing ie SBR at the back. But you want 175 cranks at least, I've just gone from 175 to 177.5 and to me it feels better. On my mountain bike I run 180's.
  20. We used to do all the courses for the races at the quary , when it still existed. I was always told mountain bikers want single track with plenty twisty turns, the fascinating part was after the race when you rode the course again, every single turn had been straight lined as much as possible ????
  21. Isn't the attitude "The right direction is the direction I'm going in" ?
  22. I've seen an aly thingy which bolts to the bottom of the frame to catch chain suck, it was imported though. I could tool up to manufacture these things, just don't know if the local market is big enough to justify the tooling expense. Comments??
  23. I've also waited six months for my licence, club was also blamed for non distribution, there are 22 members in our club, I see the administrator daily!. so i made a bit of noise with CSA. I now have two cards (albeit one without a photo) in the space of two days ??????
