  1. Get a halflink or two, this will enable you to slam the wheel all the way foward in the dropouts...works like a charm
  2. I was riding a giant trance 26". Was going to upgrade its wheelset because I did enjoy the bike but the cost of a wheelset was so high...rode a friends anthem 29er and was hooked.
  3. http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq209/bmxdistro/bikes/Specializedepiccarbon.jpg My new(used) Specialized Epic Expert Carbon. Really loving this bike.
  4. Based on what you want to spend, I was in a similar boat 4 weeks ago and what I ended up doing was hunt for a really good 2nd hand 29er. I ended up with a Specialized Epic Expert Carbon Just wanted to put that thought out there because you can a fantastic bike and allow the first owner to have taken the big price knock.Consider it
  5. great I will get in touch with them. thanks
  6. Fantastic initiative! Are you based in JHB? do you have anyone doing this in Cape Town?
  7. I just got an epic expert carbon with the BRAIN SID. I found the opposite, I found myself needing to add more pressure than suggested. I must admit I do hit the downhills / singletrack pretty darn hard.
  8. OK thanks. It was the first ride since the tires have been on so perhaps it still needs to bed in. Just got a bit nervous on the trail at the time.
  9. Well I have just riden my first tubeless ride on my new epic. While washing my bike after the ride I noticed stans coming out the sides in a few spots along the edge of the rim. Is this normal? My tire is inflated pretty hard +- 2.2bar. I also noticed it on the trail while coming down the singletrack. any advice for a noob to tubeless would be appreciated.
  10. So after some research my bike has a kcnc sc bone handlebar 600mm. Is that not going to be too narrow for xc? My previous bike had a 670mm. What I have found is that these kcnc sc bone handlebars are super light. Not sure if I could find a carbon 670mm bar that would compare?
  11. Christie you make some really valid points there. I have noticed on most local websites that the weight of the bars are never displayed, makes it a bit of a mission. I am not too much of a weight weenie but if the prices are close I would go for the lighter options. In my mind the carbon bar should alleviate a bit of shudder which helps for long rides.
  12. WheelerDealer are those bars available locally? So keen to ride it but got to wait to send it next week for the shock service. The shox are not happy campers at the moment.
  13. Well Got a new(2nd hand) specialized epic expert carbon 29er yesterday too stoked but still need to send it to SPEZ for shock service before I can use it. It came with a very short aftermarket handlebar. I want to change to something wider. Do I go carbon or are the alloys pretty much on the same level nowadays? Secondly how would I tell what size stem to purchase? Or should I try the current(also aftermarket brand) one first? keen to go bar shopping tomorrow
  14. thanks for the replies. I suppose most guys carry them in their top pockets? I never really see saddle bags etc. on bikes on the trails nowadays
  15. So I am finally making the jump to tubeless. Currently carried a spare tube, puncture kit, tire levers and pump on my bike for those dreaded punctures. I seem to be missing something.... I have noticed that most guys on the trails are carrying nothing extra or just a spare tube and c02 bomb tapped to the seatpost. My question is how do most guys put that tube in without tire levers? Secondly what are most guys carrying with them on their rides?
  16. Would you say a good price even though the fork and rear shock might need servicing
  17. OK, so it seems its a pretty expensive bike to maintain. I am able to get the bike at what I think is a very good price. (about R25k) So I am deciding whether or not its going to be worthwhile or hold on and stick to a brand like Giant.
  18. Hi Hubbers, I am looking for some help. I want to make the move to a 29er and have the opportunity to get a 2012 specialized epic expert dual suspension. My concern is A) the rear shock makes a lot of noise when I bounce it, sounds as tho the internals are trashed or in need of a service. Is this normal with these brain setups? B) Are there only specific dealers that can service these shocks and the fork for that matter (SID BRAIN) Any advice would be appreciated before I spend all this cash. Anything I should look out for many thanks
