  1. +1 for the CPT course
  2. Thanks I'll wait for Frail to respond then I'm sure he will be able to give me some good advice with regards to a route then.
  3. Hi All, I am contemplating riding from Cape Town to Johannesburg and was wondering if there was anyone on the hub that has actually done this trip before or one similar to it? I am battling to work out a route with an approximate 100 to 120km a day maximum distance. I can basically work out day one to either Paarl or Ceres and then the distances become more like 200 odd km to the next point that I can make out. Any ideas on a route would be appreciated? Thanks
  4. Awesome, thanks I'll give it a try later.
  5. Hi All, Does anybody know if I can use the Tracks for Africa maps on a Garmin Edge 800, also does the routing work properly too? Thanks
  6. Thanks, I'll give that a try this evening
  7. Yep, tried another USB cable and a different port.
  8. Yes I have, but because the PC doesn't "see" the Garmin web updater doesn't connect to it either :-(
  9. Hi All, I am currently experiencing issues when trying to upload data from my Edge 705 to my PC, as soon as I connect the Edge to the PC it turns on and immediately starts looking for satellites instead of connecting in PC mode. I have tried a soft restart, deleted all of the ride data and created new data, did a total restart of the Edge where I had to re-input all of my data again time zone, bike settings etc. reloaded the USB drivers, reloaded the communicator package, restarted an exercise - stopped it - reset - turned off and nothing seems to work every time I connect it goes straight to looking for satellites as if it is trying to continue a ride that was stopped and not reset properly. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
  10. Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. How do I do that?
  11. Hi All, can anyone tell me where I can get a set of pannier bags in Cape Town? I have looked at the Cycle Touring website but am looking for a bit more of a selection and that I can actually have a look at before buying. Thanks in advance.
  12. Not wanting to start a whole debate again, but we were on our way back from the Gravel Travel yesterday and saw a rider who had been involved in an incident with a car on the corner of Contermanskloof and Potsdam Roads. Does anybody know how he is? we didn't stop because there was already a number of people who had stopped and seemed to have everything under control (guy was under a space blanket and there were a couple of people standing around him) just wanted to know if he is alright.
  13. Hi All, can anybody tell me where I can get my Magic Light repaired in the CPT area? I was fidling around with one of the Micky mouse ears and managed (I think) to break one of the conector wires in the process, the main center light still works but the two "ears" now both don't work. My own fault entirely so was just wondering if there is anyone in CPT that I could take it to fix it for me. Thanks
  14. Does anyone have any idea when the PPA seeding run is supposed to take place? I heard that it was going to be around now but still only see seeding rides from February in my current seeding.
  15. I use a magicshine rear light and another backup just in case but as you can see the magicshine is plenty bright enough. I think
  16. Thanks all. Based on the very limited availability and the comments about the 2.1's I think I'll just stick to Nevagals instead. Thanks again.
  17. Hi All, can anyone tell me where I can get some Maxxis High Rollers LUST 26 x 2.1 in the Cape Town area? Thanks
  18. Hi All, does anyone know of a place in Cape Town that will make me up a cable with lugs that I can use to lock up my bike at work? I am looking for one that is plastic coated and about 3m long so would guess that I would have to have one made as opposed to buying one ready made. Thanks
  19. Just having a look through the results for the 30km event on Sunday and noticed that some people (23 of them)have race times between 07:01:08 and 12:08:48. surely that can't be right that would mean that these individuals finished at around between 13h00 and 18h00. I seriously doubt that Race Tec would still be waiting around at that time for people to finish.
  20. I've got to have a minimum of 8 hours a night otherwise I am us grumpy as hell. Or that's what the missus says anyway
  21. Hi All, I have been paging through the Best MTB Rides in SA book and the route mentioned in the Cederberg caught my attention. Have any of you done this particular ride and if so is it worth the effort and do you have any tips/hints with regards to the ride. In case you dont have the book the ride is as follows: It starts from the Algeria Camp site mid way between Citrusdal and Clanwilliam in the Western Cape and does a loop via Wuppethal back around via Clanwilliam back to the Algeria Camp site mainly on dirt roads. According to the book it is around 172 km and should be split over a couple of days. Thanks in advance.
  22. Thanks, I'll head on down to the LBS and see what they can do for me.
  23. Hi All, I am sure that this has been covered previously but here goes anyway. I currently have an 8 speed 12 - 24 cluster on my recently acquired road bike the problem is that I am so used to riding on my MTB with a cluster of 11 - 32 and that anytime that I get to a decent hill (which we have plenty of here in the Cape) on my road bike I very quickly run out of gears/power/steam. The question is what is the biggest rear cluster that I can put onto my road bike? the biggest one that I can find on-line is a 13-26 or something like that which then begs the question is it worth it and is the difference between a 24 and a 26 even noticeable?
  24. Hi All, Does anyone know where I can get a couple of "Think Bike" stickers in the Cape Town area? I have tried a number of places but no one seems to have them. Thanks
  25. Hi All, I am going on a two and a half week trip into Namibia and Botswana and have decided to take my bike with to get some rides in while there. The problem is that the bike rack that I have fits on the back of my land rover and because I am taking an off road trailer (Venter Bushbaby) with me I can't have the bike carrier and the trailer on at the same time. What I was thinking about is somehow fitting my bike rack to the rear of the trailer. Has anyone already done this? and if so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Venter have already told me that they won't fit the bike carrier to the back and don't suggest that I do either. I am strugling to find reasons as to why not. RegardsMerida0022009-06-11 06:28:56
