  1. Do they use colourants derived from beets in that product? Some individuals will have dark/red urine after consuming beets.

  3. Hey everyone, So anyone come across reviews yet? Or maybe have a connection with inside info? A friend of mine is very interested in a Sprada 1 because it offers fantastic value. He is hesitant to pre-order because of the less-than-stellar reviews attracted by the bike's predecessor, the Mercury 29er. Just looking at the Sprada's specs it appears, on paper at least, as though Silverback really tried to address the main concerns of Mercury reviewers, namely the long chainstays and outdated suspension design. 4. Whether you choose HT or DS, you'll love your new 29er. Happy hunting!
  5. Yep, I've experienced that HT riders often stop pedaling when standing to soak up bumps in rough terrain, resulting in loss of momentum. That is when I shoot past them, pedaling unperturbed regardless of those (mostly unnoticed) bumps. As for climbing, I cannot say that the TB is a worse climber. In fact it climbs better on rough steep stuff because both wheels stay firmly attached to the ground. I think bad climbing is a symptom of bad suspension design.
  6. Well, to be honest and after having owned the DS for a few months now, I'd say the only reason NOT to get one is cost. Unless you are a top rider and every gram saved counts, a DS is so much more comfy and fun. My Storm is a faster bike, but I am faster on the TB because it is so much more stable and surefooted when things get slightly more technical. That said, I think you get some pretty terrible DS bikes plagued by things like pedal bob and bad suspension design. A good DS will cost quite a bit more than a good HT of similar spec. EDIT: Bicycling did a 10 bike DS review http://www.bicycling.co.za/bikes-gear/full-suspension-mountain-bikes-29ers-reviewed/
  7. Sounds completely above board
  8. What kind of riding do plan on doing with it? EDIT: I have 29ers in HT and DS flavours and can recommend which would be most suited to your type of riding.
  9. Just 4 days? My new rims have been sitting in JHB since the 15th And my CRC order has been there since the 20th. I think December is a terrible month to try and import anything. Customs guys are probably on leave the whole month with packages just piling up.
  10. Aaaaaahhh, makes sense, thanks! I really need to address my ignorance of roadie-related matters!
  11. Hi guys, For some time now I've been puzzled by the existence of 130-150mm stems. Do they offer any advantage I'm not aware of? The only reasons I could think of to buy one are: Your bike is too small. But then overall fit is going to be problem too, so why bother? You want to fit your iPhone on the stem. But then you'd be better off with another phone Or lastly, you are built like this? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/Ape.jpg Please enlighten me. Thanks! D PS: I've also noted that the only stems to have crazy discounts at sale time are these really long ones. Clearly they are not popular...
  12. Upping the ante to race AND religion? Just kidding Joe. That happens to be my favourite book of all time
  13. Look at the original scenario in just a slightly different light without immediately assuming the people involved were : What if these people know someone whose bike, just like the one the OP was riding, was stolen recently. If it had been me, I would be suspicious of everyone on such a bike and I would question every single person I came across riding such a bike. The answers given would give some idea of whether the person was indeed the real owner, or if perhaps the bike might have been recently bought from a shady character (perhaps selling stolen bikes?). A very low purchase price would raise the alarm for instance. It certainly sounds like the people were asking questions rather than just accusing him of anything without grounds. Once the questions were answered, they left him in peace. It is the OP who brought race into this.
  14. Thank you Some changes to the bike: I've had the shock turned upside-down, because it was near impossible to get a bottle in/out the cage. (Might not be an issue with a Large frame). The bar-ends are making way for Hope Grip Doctors (waiting for courier to deliver my CRC order) and the brakes are being replaced with XT M785s as soon as my LBS opens in January. Oh, and also have a set of Jagwire brake hose connectors on the way (thanks awesme!) so will be able to finally fit the Jagwire titanium weave hose.
  15. Dear Mr Neethling, You do not relay any detail as to any of those people having made racist comments. Seeing as you clearly enjoyed writing us a good long post, I'm sure it would have been in there had it occurred? You yourself admit to not having looked the part of cyclist when confronted. And yet you deduct that this incident took place because those people were white and must therefore be racists. You know, there is a word for having preconceived notions about people, based on their skin colour... What is it again, I forget? I am very greatful for people with the courage to check out any individual, of any colour, seen with a bike that could possibly have been stolen. If not for people like them, very few stolen bikes would ever be recovered. The people who spoke to you asked a few questions, were satisfied with the answers and left you alone. How are you a victim? D Oh wow. You don't even realise that this is a racist comment do you? If reversed to: "The rest of you pitch black boys should rather take a moment to consider." it becomes pretty obvious, no?
  16. I have those, they're great! Word of advice: invest in good rechargeable batteries. They seem to last longer (on a single charge, before going flat) than disposables. My pepper grinder really went through Duracells, but lasts months on Eneloops
  17. Thanks, I'll check it out
  18. Thanks George, will do! However, I suspect that if these spokes retail for $75/20 in the US 128 of them will still be 5-6k here at best. There just is no way in hell I'll pay that much for spokes. They are hardly any lighter than Revos. Why on earth DT Swiss priced them so high just for being bladed and available in more colours I cannot fathom. If there is anyone on The Hub who owns these I'd love to know why you bought them.
  19. DT Swiss use these on the EXC 1550 carbon AM/enduro wheelset. As long as the rider isn't heavy, lightweight spokes shouldn't be a problem? Or is there another reason you say this?
  20. Yeah, I gave them clear instructions for rectal self-administration of their 13k spokes
  21. That depends on how you look at it. If the bike is to be judged by its brand or what it cost, then yes maybe you're right. I don't care about brand names, but about how the bike rides. The Storm is a really nice ride and I've found the only weak point to be the Crests it comes with. If you add the bike's purchase price and cost of upgrade, you still have a fantastic XC race machine at under 30k.
  22. Uhm, check sig. I have two bikes. The SO also has a Storm. Therefore two Storms.
  23. I'm pretty sure that should be $75.
  24. LOL! Good one The cost breakdown is R75 per spoke and R30 per Pro-Lock nipple. At that price the spokes will work out double what I paid for the rims. Just crazy. Back to good old black DT Revos...
