  1. I have the Silverback Sprada 1. Not exactly the same as the Slider, but same manufacturer and they share some components. Absolutely great back. I couldn't have been happier with my choice. That bike has taken me some places and always makes me grin after some singletracks. You won't regret it.
  2. I think you should be fine with a mountain bike on the road. I've done all my road training for the Cape Town Tour Cycle on my mountain bike and it worked out quite well. Albeit it is a 29er, so each pedal stroke is worth slightly more than on a 26". But if you train for it, any bike can do it, including an MTB with wide DH tires (that's what I've got on the front) and regular width 2.1 tires at the back. I say go for it! And usually I don't know about Joburg but in the Western Cape there are usually a whole bunch of people doing their Road Races on their MTBs, no problem. Update: regarding slicks. If you've got tubeless tires (and even if you don't), it would be quite a chore to keep changing wheels every time you move from one terrain to the next in between your different training routes. In my particular case, I decided one tire type for all would work. I just needed to put in the training.
  3. Oh wait, actually, even a KML file from Google Earth would work as I can convert that to GPX quite easily. And most places don't allow a direct upload for a GPX file. You could put it on a public dropbox of sorts and link to it maybe. Regards.
  4. Is there any way we can get the GPX file for this route / from the video? I am so keen to ride, also because it's in our backyard. Who said we needed to drive to Stellenbosch every damn weekend to ride? Or if anyone else has a GPX file for it to share, it would be fantastic!
  5. I use the following, absolutely amazing bag: ATG 30L Backpack More about it here: http://www.gps4africa.co.za/multi-activity-bags/1313-atg-30l-backpack.html. It's great for everything from commuting to work on my MTB, hiking and / or anythhing that may involve deep water crossings. Enjoy!
  6. And this trail just got added to my list of trails to ride. This sounds absolutely awesome! I can't wait to be honest!
  7. Wow!! I cannot wait to go check this out once it's done! Well done guys!
  8. I'm like you. 105. When I bought my bike I was 108 (3 months ago). At first I had a few issues but that's because the bike was not properly setup and everything properly tightened up when it was put together by the shop. Once all that got sorted, it's been the best ride I've ever owned. It's a Silverback Sprada 1. There was a review sometime earlier here about the it's little sister the Silverback Sprada 2: https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/gear/reviews/review-2015-silverback-sprada-2-r2270. Specs for the Sprada 1 are here: http://www.silverbacklab.com/bike/mountain/silverback-sprada-1/ I can say I was worried about the weight too. But amazingly, I'm doing really well with it. Getting to 104 KG by the way. Get a bike that fit and keep riding. ;-) Oh and about Carbon, I am not really sure. I've been wondering whether it'd be a good move to upgrade my seat-post to a carbon one but I'm skeptical it would hold. I did change the one that came with the bike to a sturdier Shimano Pro Koryak one.
  9. Did this trails today. It was incredible. The single tracks are really some of the best I've ridden in a long time. Rode solo. No problem at all. Tons of people out there and everyone is friendly. It was good. New playground!
  10. I tend to ride solo in Tokai where the security is pretty good (well at least I used to feel safe there despite a couple of bike-jacks). How's the security on these trails? After these photos, I am seriously thinking about hitting these trails but again, I tend to ride solo so security is important. Anyone?
  11. Well... talking about conspiracies, that was my first thought. Trails burning out almost "just like that"? But anyways... Glad they sorted this out. It's already a pain not to be able to do Tokai.
  12. Is that the new downhill single track that leads to the gate at the bottom (start of the tar climb)? I wanted to do a few loops there this afternoon...
  13. I can see it from my balcony, it does look contained though. I heard helicopters earlier and I can see what might be fire trucks up there... Did you see any on your way back down? I hope we're not losing another trail... This whole thing is almost starting to look targeted.. :-( http://i.imgur.com/sMXTSWe.jpg
  14. Hi guys! This is pretty awesome! I will be sending PMs shortly!
