Get him to come out earlier and do something like to Grape Escape so that: a/ the two of you get used to each others riding and b/ he gets used to the weather and terrain

Start the Prologue well within our comfort zone, there is no point in taking chances, or hurting yourself, (unless you are racing for the podium). You can go out hard and save 5 Min, but day 2 and 3 will be hard, you can make up 30 Min or an hour going into the next stage well rested. You will invest 6 months into your Epic prep, it will hurt like hell to have a DNF at the prologue.
