  1. I will be carrying stones on my next ride. RIP young legend.
  2. Sorry for the thread hijack, but I'm still to buy one. Might get one, might not. Depends on what the bike shop has in the way of multitools to strap on.
  3. You guys will probably never see me at a race then, I am braking several of those rules.
  4. Will a worn bearing cause it to wobble like that? Or is it both poked bearing and buckled?
  5. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k563/katotter1/th_wheelbuckle_zpse37cb93b.jpg Take a look at the video attached, hope you can see the buckle. I spoke to a few local riders and they say that a buckle like this should not have occurred in my little riding thus far. Furthermore, it seems like the pedal might be a dud, hence me sorting a bike rack to take it into the workshop.
  6. I have disc brakes on, so the noise is not from here, I have had dirt in it, not the same noise. I get the noise from the wheel both seated and standing, its more frequent at high speeds as the wheel is turning faster. I hear it under load and while freeing. The peddles is noisy only under load, and sometimes not, I am starting to think it might be the axes of the pedal thats not aligned or bearings poked. I will swop the wheel out with my wife's bike as we have the same ones and see if the noise stays or goes away. I am currently busy organizing a bike rack for my car to take it into the workshop I bought it from in Nelspruit, according to another customer of theirs the first service is for free and sorts these type of issues out. I did not ride today as the weather is not favour able. I will try to get a ride in tomorrow morning and see what is what.
  7. Thanks, will do this as soon as I get home.
  8. I am no expert, but it does not sound like bearings, it only makes the noise once the bend part passes a certain point. And what is WD32
  9. Its RS3's on my MKV Jetta.
  10. So I have been riding for a few weeks with my Silverback Vida 3 (2013) and progress is great. I did my first long ride (+-30km) on a nice stretch of tarmac, a lot of level sections, but mostly up- and downhill. As I am driving along, peddling hard on the uphill sections, my left pedal (I suspect its the left one) makes a 'clicking' noise as I step on it hard, almost as if it's not aligned properly. I do not know how to check what is wrong. The pedals are the ones coming with the standard bike, so might it be I need to get better quality ones? As for the rear wheel, it started making a screeching noise, only now and then, but when I started heading back home and give it the beans on the flat sections it started to become more clear and sounded more harsh, as I looked down I see the wheel is warping, only slightly, but it is. It might have been like this from the day I got it, but I never rode it hard enough to see the flaw, or I could have bent it in my noob state. Now I have not taken the bike offroad, but I do endure about 200m of grondpad from my house to the tarmac. Can the pedal and wheel be poked from this? If I had to estimate, I have not done 500km's on the bike. I cannot take it to where I bought it as I have no means of loading the bike, it was delivered to my house. And sending off the poked bits will render me bikeless. TIA Wouter
  11. *Flame suit on* Why is saddle bags frowned upon? I wanted to get me one soon, for my leatherman and cellphone. *Suit off*
  12. Took a nice ride today as I got home early. Snapped these with my failberry on the way back.
  13. I live about 5km from the entrance of that route, will never try it in my current condition. Some of my friends have done it before. The road is getting used less and less by vehicles so the maintenance is not getting done as it is supposed to. Its a hectic climb nonetheless. Big ups to the guys that made it.
  14. Deflated em to 2 bar all round, oh em gee, my ass thinks it is christmas all over again. Feels much smoother, ever little pebble is not turning my spine to dust and the grip on sand and gravel is superb. I had a quick look at the rubber and rim, seems like I have maxxis ignition 29" x 2.1", are these any good? The wheels are the standard one that gets issued with the silverback vida 3. Says something about XD comp or something. Will take some pics and post them up. Also found my wife's rear tyre flat to the ground, luckily did not de-seat, pumped it right up again.
Wouter
  16. Damn, why did I not see this sooner, my ass would have been saved from all the horror. I am not sure what tyres and rims I have, the tyres is Maxxis something, its 29ers and I inflate to 3.0 bar all round, it's so hard my fillings rattles loose. The only reason I inflate to that is because when I got my bikes we did the tubeless conversion straight off the bat and had a huge struggle to get the farking things inflated. I did not want to go through that again, I live far from any proper tech's. I weigh a solid 93kg's and my wife is probably around 103 at the moment. We ride on the tar most of the time as we need to get fit before we do trail riding, we only go off the road if the traffic forces us. Am I right in saying we can deflate quite some bit to 2.0 all round? I will try 2.0 all round for me and 2.2 for the missus as she has more wight. TIA Wouter
  17. So me an the misses has the best routes to ride on. Wish I had a pocket to take my phone or camera with to take pics. We see a lot of game, kudu, waterbok, nyala, lion, blou aap, baboon, etc... We live on Kampersrus and ride from our house towards Swadini or towards Klaserie. One is uphill first and downhill back, the other is downhill and then uphill back. We see Swadini kop mountains and Mariepskop mountains all he time. You can google with streetview to see the magnificent views. Wouter
  18. Thanks all, I am however very happy with my Giant, it suits our needs perfectly.
  19. That looks like a solution, will see if I can make a plan similar to this one. He is short a few millimeters. So a wooden support should do. Thanks.
  20. He is two years and three months, and a kortgat. But loving every km on it.
  21. I am a total noob at cycling, but the Giant halfwheeler is super amazing. I have been riding everyday for a bit more than a week and my laaitie is loving it. Although he is too short to peddle, he still love the ride along. He clings on for dear life. It is a bit tricky from time to time with the balance, as he wants to look around and sometimes behind him, but not too serious. The only thing that gets to you is when you are at an uphill climb and he decides to stick his shoe in between the frame and tyre, brakes you like mad. We are getting better and stronger after every ride, so one of the days we will be able to enter races in the new year, then we will put the halfwheeler through its paces. I must say his, in the manual and on the box it clearly states for road use only. For what reason I do not know, but for his safety I'd stick to the rules. BTW, is there a thread somewhere about your daily ride? Wouter
  22. Posted this in another thread as well. But this is what we settled on. The Giant halfwheeler. Baba cannot pedal as yet, he is still to short to reach the pedals, but he clamps on for dear life and like the rides too much. He is quite the parasite at the moment, making my early days of training difficult. But as soon as he can reach, he will pedal like mad. For the price it is not a bad product at all, easy to assemble, easy to install and very easy to use. Thank you for all the advice and guidance. Wouter
